They should just have different stats on different servers. In Russia soviet ships dominate, in China Chinese ships dominate, in the rest of the world realistic stats because we grew up in free democratic societies, have healthy egos and value truth, morality and fair play
Russian ships are made from God's paper and the spread sheet says they are fine! WG are going in the same direction with Wows as they with WoT I stopped playing WoT a while back before 2 years and moved to WoWS but now I'm not having much fun anymore. Balance is off the table for a long time. Unfortunately I think that they are killing WoWS for EU and NA as they killed WoT. Even CIS back in the days didn't like the power that all soviet brings to WoT, I'm sure that they don't like it now as well...

Actually the reduced freeboard only reduces the ships reserve buoyancy. Heavy waves make little difference with all hatches secured. You must be thinking of open boats like a dinghy or a small fishing boat ... or the Vasa. Ships I was on would "submarine" through heavy waves without taking on water. If anything, the lowered freeboard would produce less roll from my experience.
@xellossaxon you should check against how many nations germany was fighting. Hitler made bad decisions, thats all... In the beginning of WW2 was the german army rolling over the oponents. Russia was not even prepared for this. And what happend at the french coast was at the end a big loose for the allies, if you remember that the german defense line not even was finished. Guns was missing and all the people there...

It's OP and I'm tired of pretending the Soviet 'design philosophy' is anything other than to be OP with good everything with best armour and best guns. It's not even funny. It's not a problem they add non constructed ships with most of them existed only on papers. For example the German BB line had to be stopped at Bismarck because FDG and GK never existed, only on papers. The problem is in balance department because they add more OP ships. WOWS with only constructed ships it will be very boring because of the few ships.

Petropavlovsk sits so low in the water they should add a feature where if you turn too fast you capsize and sink, I think that would make for very fun and engaging gameplay
I had the misfortune of sharing the same flank with an enemy triple Petro division in my GK. I had 3 other cruisers with me and they had a Montana. My cruisers evaporated around me and I pretty much single handedly dealt with the Montana. When I was inevitably killed by them I had 2.8 million potential damage, and they had a combined 6 million. 'Strong' i think is an understatement for the Petro.
Remember what happened to brave Russian pre dreadnoughts at Battle of Tsushima which sat dangerously low because of overload and miss calculation...☹️ Yeah, off course I remember it, because I'm Japanese🇯🇵 We won't forget tragedies of our honorable enemies...(｀･ω･´)ゞ
I'm surprised you did not mention the Kamchatka. There is also the fact that a ship by the name Petropavlovsk, Admiral Makarov's flagship, struck a mine and sank in short order. Drachinfel's video on the prior journey is quite an entertaining watch.

I was playing my newly acquired Thunderer the other day, and I bounced every single shot off a Petropavlovsk who was giving me (what I thought should be) a little too much broadside. A more angled Yamato took 3 pens, of course. This ship is a disgrace... I'm starting to consider moving back to WoT, that game may be less broken in its current state actually. Edit: Are we just not going to call this ship Overpowered as fuck now? Because it definitely is.

Petropavlovsk's ability to wreck Vermonts 1v1 probably isn't anything special compared to other cruisers. If anything she'd be kind of bad at it considering her HE DPM is low.
I think there's a reason why real ships don't have so ridiculously low freeboards: They want to be usable even when sea isn't that calm. I'd imagine this design would've been stupidly limited in real life in ways the game just doesn't model.
it is truly a wonder how nations with such rich, and long naval histories, and overwhelming superiority of the sea, such as the UK, USA, Japan, Italy and France, all had to make choices and compromises in regards to Guns, Armour, and speed, and never were able to get all 3 in a single ship, but the soviets were. Must be that the soviets just knew how to build better ships and had better naval research than the worlds premier naval powers.
So IRL; she would have decks that are constantly awash, her barrels would wear out in a few salvos, she probably would be so overweight she would be a submarine and her 360 turret mechanisms would be a boar to maintain. In short, she would be as effective as her dreadnought namesake in Tsushima.
Ive stopped playing this game as a regular for some time now. And time and again Wargaming dissapoints me by creating these overpowered ships that make no sense what so ever. There is no balance in this game. Its damn sad.
Yeah that is the problem with the paper ships. There is no way they can acutually sail the seas and i am quite sure that the guns would be unsuable after 2 salvos if at all, since you would need so mutch explosives to get the shells to the speeds they are at in game.

Noticed now.. because of the absurdly low freeboard, it's going to be hard for the new AP rocket planes (the ones that everyone hated on because of their damage pot) to punish, unlike ships such as DM and Stalingrad (t10 cruisers with the most similar playstyles).
I love how wargamming ignores the fact that layered armor in reality is horrible and bad at protecting the ship. And why historically Russians designed for it was because of their inability to manufacture it. I also like how wargamming ignores the historical poor metallurgy of the Soviets that further made thier designs under protected.
Good points here. For most of the other countries, they've designed fun party pieces for each line. They feel fun and add believable variety. But Soviet ships... it's just a fiction and everyone knows it. I wonder if there is some element of ... the p-word here. Is their government hoping to use WoWs as a recruitment tool for their navy? It really makes me wonder. I know for a fact the USN views it as a way to get Zoomers to carry the torch.
The Petropavlosk is so low in the water cause the ship never got into bodies of water, hence its could be as low as they want it to be and still "float"
Wasn't the Venecia with its SAP concidered to be a "counter" to the Stalingrads 50mm deck armor? WG allways said they didn't nerf the Venezia because it excels with cariers. I feel like I'm onto somthing here.

I would love to see someone in real life make a 8.7 inch gun that can punch through BB armor at normal battle ranges. This gun caliber is designed to defeat cruiser armor in real life. Even the exceptional 12 inch guns on the Alaska with the Super Heavy AP only had the punching power of a 14 inch dreadnought gun. And the KGVs (historically best protected ship) would be able to bounce that gun at long to medium ranges.
Man, should I really grind for it? Last time when I finally got Venezia, WG nerfed it 2 weeks later. On the other hand, Russian ship, so no nerf coming 😎

I have it and it is fine, and is very good at its specific role, but compared to the Moskva or the Nevsky I would put this one at the bottom of the list. Both ships are far more versatile than the Petro, as they both have really good HE (unlike the horrid stuff on the Petro), long lasting radar, AP that punishes cruisers even at range, the ability to play at range due to their dispersion/innate range (especially with Moskva Leg Mod), and Moskva is still the tankiest cruiser at Tier X other than maybe Stalingrad. Petro is really good if you know how to position, as the ship needs to get closer to fully utilize its advantages, cries if a BB angles against it, and you still need to account for your own angling as while it has the best protection of any Soviet CA broadside it isn't something like the Kremlin where you are mostly unpunishable. Petro is a fun ship but I honestly find her contemporaries within the same tech tree to be more comfortable and impactful on a match.
Can we all just see this game as what it is? A retired Soviet admiral's wet dream. How can they take features out of other nations' lines and add them to the already stacked Russian line? It's an all you can eat buffet of broken mechanics. It has all the features that matter when it comes to getting credits and winning. Des Moines has a statistically higher DMP but that doesn't matter when effectively most of the shells are missing or still in the air when you can see them coming from miles away.
I tried shoting Petropavlovsk with Salem. AP, flat broadside, 12-13km - i managed to deal 11k damage for around 30s when he finally turned his guns and citadelled me thru nose... No cits for me and to make things even more funny I even got 5 ricoshets... On flat broadside Petropavlovsk ...
i think people are exaggerating the strength of this ship, its strong and things should probably be addressed. stealth radar and either nerf the 50mm armor or raise the freeboard. this ship really only does good when shooting broadsides, the HE is ass and long range dispsersion is ass
I was on the Budyonny when those containers dropped for the unsinkable sam camo. I ended up getting chappy for free from it. But now I’ll have to grind Budyonny a bit to try and grab Petro. But at least that I means I have something lower tier to play in for a bit.

Like the combo of super-high velocity, no drag, insane penetration, improved pen angles AND short fuse times/low thresholds... Is just too powerful! Most other ships get improved pen angles by way as compensation for them being lacking in other areas.
I usually check in about once a month to see what's new with WOWS and whether or not this game actually deserves to be reinstalled. In the last year I've seen everything from the Pay2Rico to WeeGee silencing the CCs on upcoming test ships, to fun policing most of the German premiums, the new US BBs look like a joke, and PetroBismol is still a complete floating pile of biased bullshit. At this rate I'm thinking I should cut my losses and try to sell my account to some whale before WeeGee kills the game entirely.

the plating absolutely is a problem. Even the fast US BBs have more armor, which is rather ridiculous

The same happened to me in a North Carolina. Had one front turret left. I could Cit a kremlin but could not do it to this thing.

My cruisers evaporated around me and I pretty much single handedly dealt with the Montana. When I was inevitably killed by them I had 2.8 million potential damage, and they had a combined 6 million. 'Strong' i think is an understatement for the Petro.

I'm surprised you did not mention the Kamchatka. There is also the fact that a ship by the name Petropavlovsk, Admiral Makarov's flagship, struck a mine and sank in short order. Drachinfel's video on the prior journey is quite an entertaining watch.

Yea when Flamu says the ship is fun you'll know the ship is just stupidly overpowered compared to other ships.
I was playing my newly acquired Thunderer the other day, and I bounced every single shot off a Petropavlovsk who was giving me (what I thought should be) a little too much broadside. A more angled Yamato took 3 pens, of course. This ship is a disgrace... I'm starting to consider moving back to WoT, that game may be less broken in its current state actually.
Edit: Are we just not going to call this ship Overpowered as fuck now? Because it definitely is.

The very first AP salvo I fired from this ship chunked a not-quite-broadside GK for 12k at 15 km. It's pretty insane.
This ship is just unnecessary and clearly the most pay to swim scheme ever implemented.

Petropavlovsk's ability to wreck Vermonts 1v1 probably isn't anything special compared to other cruisers. If anything she'd be kind of bad at it considering her HE DPM is low.

I think there's a reason why real ships don't have so ridiculously low freeboards: They want to be usable even when sea isn't that calm. I'd imagine this design would've been stupidly limited in real life in ways the game just doesn't model.

Watching you sit there full broadside, dead in the water citadeling that ship and others in the begining, I've never felt genuinely sad for the enemy.

it is truly a wonder how nations with such rich, and long naval histories, and overwhelming superiority of the sea, such as the UK, USA, Japan, Italy and France, all had to make choices and compromises in regards to Guns, Armour, and speed, and never were able to get all 3 in a single ship, but the soviets were. Must be that the soviets just knew how to build better ships and had better naval research than the worlds premier naval powers.
So IRL; she would have decks that are constantly awash, her barrels would wear out in a few salvos, she probably would be so overweight she would be a submarine and her 360 turret mechanisms would be a boar to maintain. In short, she would be as effective as her dreadnought namesake in Tsushima.

Ive stopped playing this game as a regular for some time now. And time and again Wargaming dissapoints me by creating these overpowered ships that make no sense what so ever. There is no balance in this game. Its damn sad.

Yeah that is the problem with the paper ships. There is no way they can acutually sail the seas and i am quite sure that the guns would be unsuable after 2 salvos if at all, since you would need so mutch explosives to get the shells to the speeds they are at in game.

Stealthy Icytail Definitely not. Kremlin had its dispersion neutered and looks like German dispersion from a pre buff FDG at ranges further than 15km. This thing maintains a decent grouping at range that makes the Kremlin jealous.

I find it funny how the Petropavlovsk's 220mm gun turrets rotate slower than the 457mm gun turrets of Kremlin
Noticed now.. because of the absurdly low freeboard, it's going to be hard for the new AP rocket planes (the ones that everyone hated on because of their damage pot) to punish, unlike ships such as DM and Stalingrad (t10 cruisers with the most similar playstyles).
There's nothing better than destroying the 2 turrets of a JB.
I really wish WG would show the “designs” of these ships to “prove” that they were going to built.

I love how wargamming ignores the fact that layered armor in reality is horrible and bad at protecting the ship. And why historically Russians designed for it was because of their inability to manufacture it. I also like how wargamming ignores the historical poor metallurgy of the Soviets that further made thier designs under protected.
Good points here. For most of the other countries, they've designed fun party pieces for each line. They feel fun and add believable variety. But Soviet ships... it's just a fiction and everyone knows it. I wonder if there is some element of ... the p-word here. Is their government hoping to use WoWs as a recruitment tool for their navy? It really makes me wonder. I know for a fact the USN views it as a way to get Zoomers to carry the torch.
The Petropavlosk is so low in the water cause the ship never got into bodies of water, hence its could be as low as they want it to be and still "float"

I would love to see someone in real life make a 8.7 inch gun that can punch through BB armor at normal battle ranges. This gun caliber is designed to defeat cruiser armor in real life. Even the exceptional 12 inch guns on the Alaska with the Super Heavy AP only had the punching power of a 14 inch dreadnought gun. And the KGVs (historically best protected ship) would be able to bounce that gun at long to medium ranges.
Man, should I really grind for it? Last time when I finally got Venezia, WG nerfed it 2 weeks later. On the other hand, Russian ship, so no nerf coming 😎

I have it and it is fine, and is very good at its specific role, but compared to the Moskva or the Nevsky I would put this one at the bottom of the list. Both ships are far more versatile than the Petro, as they both have really good HE (unlike the horrid stuff on the Petro), long lasting radar, AP that punishes cruisers even at range, the ability to play at range due to their dispersion/innate range (especially with Moskva Leg Mod), and Moskva is still the tankiest cruiser at Tier X other than maybe Stalingrad. Petro is really good if you know how to position, as the ship needs to get closer to fully utilize its advantages, cries if a BB angles against it, and you still need to account for your own angling as while it has the best protection of any Soviet CA broadside it isn't something like the Kremlin where you are mostly unpunishable.
Petro is a fun ship but I honestly find her contemporaries within the same tech tree to be more comfortable and impactful on a match.
This ship needs a big buff in the current state i guess, maybe 200k HP, 20km torps, or some 30km rockets?

Can we all just see this game as what it is? A retired Soviet admiral's wet dream. How can they take features out of other nations' lines and add them to the already stacked Russian line? It's an all you can eat buffet of broken mechanics. It has all the features that matter when it comes to getting credits and winning. Des Moines has a statistically higher DMP but that doesn't matter when effectively most of the shells are missing or still in the air when you can see them coming from miles away.
I tried shoting Petropavlovsk with Salem. AP, flat broadside, 12-13km - i managed to deal 11k damage for around 30s when he finally turned his guns and citadelled me thru nose... No cits for me and to make things even more funny I even got 5 ricoshets... On flat broadside Petropavlovsk ...
WG made Russian tanks in WOT a lot of them overpowered and now I see the same madness in WOWS.

i think people are exaggerating the strength of this ship, its strong and things should probably be addressed. stealth radar and either nerf the 50mm armor or raise the freeboard. this ship really only does good when shooting broadsides, the HE is ass and long range dispsersion is ass
I was on the Budyonny when those containers dropped for the unsinkable sam camo. I ended up getting chappy for free from it. But now I’ll have to grind Budyonny a bit to try and grab Petro. But at least that I means I have something lower tier to play in for a bit.
All Soviet Ships should take 50% extra flooding damage from their ridiculously low fantasy waterlines.

Other nations never did figure out the magical power of Putinium powder charges.
Like the combo of super-high velocity, no drag, insane penetration, improved pen angles AND short fuse times/low thresholds... Is just too powerful! Most other ships get improved pen angles by way as compensation for them being lacking in other areas.
Incoming USN line-split BBs say to Petropavlovsk--and basically everything else--eat me; literally.

The build you recommended is a DD Hunter build. Useful when you're chasing down a DD. The hydro also defends you against torps.

I usually check in about once a month to see what's new with WOWS and whether or not this game actually deserves to be reinstalled.
In the last year I've seen everything from the Pay2Rico to WeeGee silencing the CCs on upcoming test ships, to fun policing most of the German premiums, the new US BBs look like a joke, and PetroBismol is still a complete floating pile of biased bullshit.
At this rate I'm thinking I should cut my losses and try to sell my account to some whale before WeeGee kills the game entirely.
