Ugh - I’m done with the endless chart games that forcibly drag you through the mud. Legion really needs better development for their games, I’m steering clear until they can get their act together. Thanks for being up front with the review Paul, good job!
Hi Steve. Yeah I have very similar feelings about it. Fourty-year-old mechanics aside, I did not feel the game had honed in enough on just what it wanted to present to the player. I believe the system needs both streamlining and more focus before it will hit my table off-camera. And those tables.....
This is an excellent job, very thorough and thoughtful! I was only going to watch a couple of minutes but I ended up watching the whole thing. Thanks for taking the time to put this together.
@@theoakenknight1748 Thanks, Paul! It's really clear you put a lot of effort into this review, both with scripting out the content and "showing" as well as telling. So when you're talking about something the viewer can see it on their screen at the same time. I also enjoyed the depth that you took the discussion, and the attention to detail in your writing and thoughts. I've been playing the game quite a bit recently so I was looking for others thoughts' on the game, and it was interesting for me to compare our experiences. Thanks again, it was really fun to watch. :)
Many thanks from the UK. What could have been an engaging simulation attempting to reflect the stress, danger and consequent bravery and intelligence of naval combat aircrew has resulted in a rather subpar game. As you mention going around and re-engaging a target was discouraged ("One pass and kick ass") as it was extremely dangerous (I read), therefore the designers should have made it an exception. It needs work - is it worth the time and effort?
Hello Everett. Sadly, no, I think there are better alternatives; I find DVG’s Phantom Leader gives me much more entertainment value for the time I put in. Take care…. - Paul
Greatly appreciate your overview... it really matches my impressions from watching a playthrough of the game. It seems your options are almost nearly limited to A) selecting your support aircraft and by extension B) assigning support aircraft to NV defense and I suppose most complex would be C) selecting your ordnance. It looks beautiful, but I just don't see the appeal for me personally. I recently picked up Tally-Ho! and Mag-23 Guadalcanal and have been pleased with my initial impressions of my first two days in the first week in Guadalcanal. Thanks again for the video! I've subscibed.
Hello JF. Thanks for your comment and sub!! 🫡. Yeah, Skyhawk did not do it for me; maybe I need to get one of the DVG “air leader” games on the table. They always seem satisfying. I have to look up the two games you mentioned; they snuck under my radar. Thanks again…, Paul
Man, after Target for Tonight I'd sworn of Steve Dixon games, but it looks like he's actually fixed some of the things I've been complaining about with Target for Today/Tonight. Though it sounds like he hasn't ditched the idea of giving you a sandbox game with lots of ideas and not a strict ruleset.
Hi James. Well, I guess he did it again regarding the ruleset. As you can tell, I was caught a bit off guard by it, and when it comes down to it, I'd prefer to spend my time with DVG's Phantom Leader Deluxe. My personal preference..., you mileage may vary. -- Paul
@@jamesdalley2394 Phantom leader is my favorite of the fixed-wing "airplane" games in the DVG leader system. The design is a beautiful thing, and it is so fun to play. Merry Christmas, James! -- Paul

@@theoakenknight1748 I get that. I'm a huge fan on Phantom Leader. I've flown many campaigns over Vietnam.
