Pacific Crest Trail thru hike 2023' Day 3 -Tent site to Lake Morena

- Today we go to a campground area designated for PCT thru hikers that's part of a larger campground. It's in lake Morena. Also, here is a famous malt shop that's a restaurant as well as a decent resupply. Oh my, the burgers here are amazing!
I met up with no less than about 25 people and it quickly becomes a big party. I met some amazing people here. So come follow along with some great people and good food.

I started March 11 2020. Good timing. It enables you to take your time without rushing. It allowed me to take zeros and smell the roses.

Sierras are getting MORE SNOW with this atmospheric river thing. Heard that and thought, "UH OH, Groceries!" Hope it doesn't make things more complicated.
It might but I can't do anything about it so I'll just adapt. I'll always try to make the right decisions at the right time.
Take it easy. A slow start is a good idea. Keep an eye on the weather. Rain, 100 miles away can cause a flash flood for you so always have atleast one ear open. I saw the weather report from San Diego. They were warning that warm rains coming in could cause large melt offs and flooding. Happy Trails. Good Luck, Rick
Ya we just got warnings for some weather today so I might take another zero where I am.
@@AdventureQuencher I hope that you took the zero and watched the weather reports. There is flooding in a number of CA areas. Its going to be dangerous because some of the hills have slides even days after the rain stops. If you do go out, carry some extra food if you get trapped some place. Instant oatmeal packets are the cheapest and lightest emergency food. Good Luck, Rick
Does the record snow pack this year impact you at all? Not familiar enough with the PCT to know how far away all of that is for you. Thanks for taking us along!
Great question. Yes it's impacting is more than most of use expected. 3-4 foot postholing, temps down to freezing at night, excessive water in places etc. But at the same time I'm hoping for a great bloom year.

Limited but not bad. You only need a couple or 3 days to get up to Morena so it's ok. Cheers!
