Russell if you could add a discussion regarding the rationale on reel drag settings including when and if it's ok to increase or decrease the drag setting during retrieving the fish. Thanks@@Reel2ReelOutdoors

I'm sorry Cap'n Adam....I incorrectly referenced the salmon expert in the above comment. Apologies.

Should the dipsy rods all be parallel to the water line or is it ok to have the outside dipsy at a 25 to 45 degree angle up to help with line spread on a smaller boat?

I keep them parrell. It helps when you a landing fish to keep the line from the divers out of the way and under the water.

What wire rods do you and other captains prefer

A lot of captains are using Talora wire rods but they don't make them anymore. We use blue diamond Okuma rods and have them set up with a roller guide next to the reel and a twirly tip. They don't make the rods we use anymore either. I like a medium to medium heavy weight and moderate to slow action rod. 8'6" or 9' lows and 10' Highs.

Can I get away with a 6’ leader after the Dipsy?

In my experience, longer leaders seem to out perform short leaders. Mine are 15’ to 25’ long.
