When my hooks straighten out I replace them with a gamakatsu 4x hook and problem goes away! Silver horde and salmon candy little plugs which work great all need hook upgrades anyway so when the time comes the old hooks go and new better hooks get installed.

100% agreement: LET THEM RUN!! I’ve got a buddy that gets impatient with these big fish and either thumbs the spool or tightens the drag during the fight. Bad bad bad! LET THEM RUN! Think about it, do you really want a green (energetic, feisty) fish right behind. the boat, dashing around and getting into other stuff at the last minute?? LET THEM RUN, and then bring in an exhausted fish to the net, under control. Adam, as a former charter captain, I know this must drive you nuts some days. Peace.

The Googans are certainly out in force already. I was out solo this week and got yelled at twice. One guy had 5 boards per side and wanted everyone to give him some room. Some did some didnt. LOL another time I was doing as you say heading north to the stick on the shelf and a guy is headed to shore. I knew this due to seeing the side of his boat. I marked a fish and then got a hit on my port dipsey. He turns south about then so I let him know that my other two rods are out the other side. He begins to yell I cut him off and am going east west. I just figure those guys are drunk or stupid or both. Tight Lines!

I had a boat slipped in Ludington for over 40 years what you are suggesting is that one boat who is following the break has the right of way. It was always the same captains who would try to push others off the break. I was friends with a lot of the Charters and there was always a select few who would never yield course when they were in the wrong. I used to enjoy listen on the radio when two captains both wanted the bank while running opposite directions and the bitching would begin as to who was going to yield. The way it's supposed to be is you maintain your heading ( per CG regs) and each boat can give a little . The problem is whether you like it or not is everyone has the right to fish the same waters whether you are a charter or just a fun fisherman! There are a lot of things done the Ludington way while in Ludington but it doesn't necessarily meanss it's right. It was like when the fish tanked years ago and how many Ludington captains would take clients out and if they caught 3 salmon they would call it a limit and head in even though you were allowed 5 fish which could of included trout. I know captains in other points used to laugh at the Ludington limit but hey it was the Ludington way!

Thank God someone else said it’s a drag issue! Great tips on the plugs Adam! I’ve always tied directly to the bead chain with no swivel. Only problem was the line eventually cutting into the plugs on those runs from sliding up the line! I may split ring the bead chain down I like that idea!
