    Moving a USB port to the side was truly a ... *side* grade

    The reason it says 3 USB 3.0 ports ( even though it shouldn't be included ) is because it is the way the Webcam is connected. The Webcam is connected basically directly to the USB 3.0 port, even though their is no physical USB 3.0 Port. If you look at device manager, the Webcam will be labeled ad "USB webcam". So basically the PC sacrifices one port to make the Webcam work. This is weird though, because normally they don't include the Webcam USB as a USB itself

    It is the RAM. Ryzen hates single channel memory. If they just used dual channel RAM, the performance across the board would jump up 20-30% at least.
    Austin didn't get into it, but I would to know if this has a memory upgrade trap door since if it has a second slot, you can make this OK for an extra $30.

    The basic design and pop-out camera remind me of the HP EliteOne desktops used to run the catalogue search kiosks and Internet PCs at my local library, however, the cameras on those never get used considering the environment they're in.
    I can tell HP were trying to save on costs by using the same power adaptor they might have included with a Pavilion laptop and reusing the same basic design as some of their higher-end EliteOne models. I think the target market were people who just needed a basic PC, maybe if they were living in a small space.

It's at the point now where I have to restart it every so often just to be able to check my email. The only reason they haven't upgraded it (besides being cheap) is that the software we use won't run on newer OSs

    Just an FYI, back in 2020, i bought a Lenovo M75Q gen2 for $488, its a Mac Mini sized PC with an 8 core Ryzen 7 4750GE, you can pair that with a ~$180 1080p75 monitor, that has a party trick of having a little enclosure on the back of the monitor for the mini PC so that it acts like an all in one, but is just as servicable as a desktop, this also allows you to upgrade to new hardware later.
    The monitor i bought has a built in webcam/mic as well, but the speakers are not as good as the HP, they're like little phone speakers in a deceptively large chin bezel

      @@eshaanagarwal6081 The Mac Mini, which i also have, started at $699 in 2020 Less powerful, more expensive, not upgradable, but a beautiful machine. Sadly Lenovo is more innovative with their Tiny-In-One monitor/PC enclosure/dock/KVM thing
      Do you know how much i want an iMac like screen, with a mount on the back for me to just slot the M2 Pro Mac Mini into, and have the ports re-locate to the side, bottom, or front of the monitor? And then to be able to upgrade to the M4 later keeping the perfectly good screen/speakers/camera

      In video transcoding on the CPU the 4750GE was both faster, and more energy efficient at the wall.
      However on GPU the M1 was faster and more energy efficient, but GPU failed to compress to the same file size while maintaining the same quality as both CPU tests.
      Of the two GPUs the M1 Video Tool Box is far superior to AMD VCE, but CPU is far superior to both.
      Maybe this test would have gone different if i had the 16GB version of the Mac Mini but i think it came down to the low thread/core count of the M1 with it having only 4 big cores and 4 little cores, with AMD having 8 medium cores, and 8 helper threads(made mostly meaningless in most use cases by the 1/2 sized cache).
      I'm interested in getting the M2 Pro Mac Mini because of the much higher performance/big core count.
      As an anecdote, If you take the 4750GE and compare it to a 3950X in eco mode the 3950x is more efficient despite using more than 2x the power, because it needs a dedicated GPU and larger less integrated parts than a mini PC

    I could see this with a quad core Ryzen CPU and 16GB of RAM as a kids PC at this price, but taking this at face value, you would be better off buying a used Lenovo ThinkCentre Tiny with a quad core CPU, maxing out the RAM, adding a 256GB SSD, and coming in at around $120, assuming you already have a monitor,/TV, mouse, and keyboard for use as a basic computer running Chrome OS Flex, or a solid Linux distro like Solus w/Budgie.

If we compare it with base Mac mini, the M2 one is 600 USD (and 500 USD if you are a student) and compared to this, that is generations ahead, you would just have to buy an external display with that, which you could get for 70 USD (a decent but used one). Austin, it's so that when the power brick dies, you dont have to rip apart the computer to fix it, also to get heat away form an already baked pc.

    4:10 In the listing for the computer you see it comes with a black stand but in the unboxing, it came with a white stand and for a black computer to have a white stand just kills the whole edgy game lord aesthetic that someone was probably trying to go for.

    This reinforces my satisfaction with the Inspiron AIO I bought in 2021. I paid $800 for my (with 2 year warranty), but got a core "I5-1135G7 CPU with 8GB RAM (that I upgraded to 24GB) a 512GB SSD, and Geforce MX150 GPU for light gaming, and haven't looked back. 2.5 years later, it's still running fine, and I keep more tabs open in Chrome than I ever bother counting. (well over 20).

    I picked up an Optiplex 7470 AIO touch screen with an i5-9500 (65w) and a gtx 1050 4gb, with the pop up webcam, for $200 from a business that was upgrading. Spent $80 on 16gb ram and a 500gb NVMe ssd and it was off to the races.
    There is a lesson here. The used market can have incredible value if you have the patience and the know how.

    it needs a quad core cpu and at least 16gb of ram to be reasonably performant in 2023 for base tier stuff that most folks would want to do with a computer such as web surfing and basic business applications.

    • @cooleyzz
      @cooleyzz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with quad core. But 8gb of ram with 2x4gb sticks at 3200mhz for dual channel would probably do pretty good with a ryzen quad core

    • @joshhardin666
      @joshhardin666 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cooleyzz if you had a decent SSD to swap to maybe but I can eat up 16gb of RAM with just outlook, teams, and Firefox on my company notebook (it's been an issue sometimes) and that's a current generation Lenovo x1 carbon with a 12th gen i7 and 16gb of ram that wasn't cheap

    I still have the first gen of this PC, it takes 15mins before u get to the desktop, another 7mins to open up the Internet, another 4mins for the internet to load the home page, another 3mins to load the next web page you search total it takes me 29mins+ just to get to the web page I want (without even starting what I want to do) TH-cam doesn't load at all. It's my only PC. I can't afford another pc haven't been for years. It's an absolute pain in the ass but it's all I have

  • @AaronShenghao

    I would say for the front desk/reception, simple Excel etc. And maybe for entry level works like browsing a receipt for cooking, or order engine parts on a workshop... Heck it's perfect for my Dad who only plays online card games...
    Look, cheap laptops don't come with that larger screen (and I don't think they make anything past 17inch, not with reasonable price), and you risk batteries worn out and catch on fire.

  • @TheGeekiestGuy
    @TheGeekiestGuy 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I dunno... I think if you try and stuff a quad-core into that thing, it'll melt. Like, you get up to go to the bathroom, it goes past throttling, and you come back to a bricked puddle...

    I can get a brand new laptop for $100 that runs Windows 11 home and is more powerful than this!! Why are these $400+?!?! I just don't get it! Now if they were the same price and upgradable, then I could see the appeal.

    The issue with gaming is more than likely due to a single stick of ram. Ryzen CPUs get a HUGE boost in dual channel.
