Jimmy Hill was an icon and great for the game of football. Watched him a lot on a Sat night watching Match of the day. That chin you can’t miss.

In the days when MOTD showed proper "highlights" of 3 select matches instead of the quickfire goal rush it has become now...it was so much better then.

Only 3 matches, sometimes from a lower division, J Hill being both presenter and pundit... and because I had to be up at 6 for my paper round, I'd be asleep before the end

Lovely to see a game without players falling over every time some one got within three feet especially in the box. Also I'd forgotten how nice it was not to have the endless punditry and analysis after every game. This trend of having five or six "experts" discussing everything form every angle seems to be pervading every sport from football and cricket to motor racing and tennis.

Oh, Jimmy Hill. Your chin was magnificent. But you weren't happy with merely having a wondrously prominent chin, you had to go and add a goatee on the end of it decades before goatees became fashionable so that you could be the world's undisputed, Black Belt 10th Dan chin-master.

No it wouldn’t. This was one of two seasons in the early 1980s when Match of the Day went out on a Sunday afternoon rather than a Saturday night, with ITV having the Saturday slot instead. Jimmy Hill says “good afternoon” at the start.

In 1978, ITV won exclusive rights to Football League coverage, dubbed "Snatch Of The Day" & this led to the BBC calling in lawyers & the Office of Fair Trading.
Long story short, the OFT decreed that Match Of The Day & ITV's regional football shows alternate for 4 seasons.
