    What a freakin’ angel Liz Fraser is ❤ There’s no way this song would’ve become the treasure it is with Madonna’s voice on it. All my neighbours are ‘bout to hear this Mezzanine record now 🔊

    23 April 1991,I was walking by the Teatro Opera in Buenos Aires and I see the posters advertising the show for Cocteau Twins. I hadn´t ever heard anything of their stuff; all I knew was that they were a band of the 8o´s and British and darkish and dense and unlike any other.But I didn´t know just how much.I hung around the city centre until show time and bought a ticket.I was amazed to see a full house.Amazed that they had no drummer and was mesmerized by Guthrie´s sound and Elizabeth´s voice. Matter of fact, a guy kept on shouting to her "I love you Elizabeth!". And just as it had started,that massive wall of sound ended. They left without any encores and I was swiftly out in the street once more, walking zombie like back home.One of those shows you never forget.

    I love that Elizabeth is so immersed in the song in the outro, you can’t take your eyes off her. I’m guessing that’s what Robin Guthrie saw when he asked her to join the Cocteau Twins on that fateful night, 40 years ago, when he spotted her dancing, on her own, in that club in Grangemouth. Pure bliss.

Well, no problem whatsoever. But then she pulled out her wallet to pay for it. Heaven's sake, that's courtesy of the house darling! one of the most beautiful songs of the 20thC. I once cradled my son, as a baby, and rocked him to sleep as I gently danced to this and other MA songs...to this day, we share a strong love of this amazing band of creative souls. thank you.

    Liz Fraser"s vocals are hauntingly beautiful. Her previous work as one half of This Mortal Coil , (from the 80`s,) was so far ahead of its time that I only finally felt time had caught up when their tracks were used in the film, Lovely Bones (2009)

    This song...
    Of all the music I listen to and enjoy, this is the only one I play quietly with as much silence surrounding me as possible. Less can be more and this is _so_ much more; the slow beat, the beautiful voice... Perfect.

      Kyle Knockaert sorry but no.... Garlands is raw and strange .... for me the best album they made .... shure after that they made beautiful music but they never got the deep side of Garlands....

    • @je4754
      @je4754 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @Dean Ween That's a pretty bold assessment to make. Her vocal range and style expanded throughout the Cocteau Twins later records. Garlands has been one of my favorites for over 30 years. I still appreciate how raw and dark that album is, and not in a pretentious way. And one shouldn't just lump it together with stereotypical post-punk bands. They defied categories musically and were way more interesting than most. They had substance and were vastly original.

    • @deluxedjsireland224
      @deluxedjsireland224 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      after she took vocal lessons in the mid-80s initially to learn how to preserve her voice while touring, she learned how to use her upper register and sing sweeter and lighter, dropping a lot of those Garlands-era mannerisms, all the yelping and hiccuping and shouting. You can hear the changes slowly on Victorialand and some of the mid-period EPs but by Bluebell Knoll she's got a very different singing style and timbre. I reckon she refined that even more by the time she worked with Massive.

    Bloody hell, those tears won't stop running. Thank you Liz, for your contribution to what I personally appreciate as visceral and cathartic music. Been a fan since the Cocteau Twins, admired your work with FSOL (lifeforms path 4), then with Massive attack, you are definitely the voice of God. Thank you, really thank you.

    I’m in tears as Liz begins this song but smiling with her by the end. So Moving. 😂 Her sheer joy in sharing her amazing gift is still evident. Probably my favorite vocalist ever, saw her in Ann Arbor during her “Heaven or LV” touring days. Her voice remains so beautiful, if only my other favorite vocalist (Whitney H) had been as wise as Elizabeth in preserving her gift.
    This lovely performance brought me back to past and lifted me up in the present in ways I cannot describe. Thank you Elizabeth, Dear Lady, for this Lovely Gift!! 😌❤
