Great video, thanks for sharing. I've had the same issue with my 2005 Nissan Altima. Ive replaced the crank sensor 5 years back, its now turning slow. So i replaced the sensor again. It turned over quicker but now 5 days later its sometimes not starting. I have 220,000km on the timming chain. It's never been replaced. Do you think the chain need replaced? Could it be that the chain is not lining up the crank gear with the sensor?
So funny with the nissan you was working on with the battery just hanging on wish you had an idea to help me I have a 2008 nissan xtrail t31 plenty of crank no start cheers gaz uk
Did u get it fixed? I jave the same car 355.000 miles on it lol still really nice though because its been kept up but the crank and camshaft sensor was the problem. We did have to replace the fuel pump amd had to spend like 30 bucls on eBay with a lifetime warranty I believe.
Your mechanic is guessing. You have to realize these issues are resolved by trial and error. It could be your immobilizer...bad key transponder..crank sensor...bad coil.. start there first before changing your module
Love your sense of humor and great video..and this is yet another reason I'll never own one of these with all their cheap battery connections etc. Take care..
Before I spend anymore Money To try to Get My 97 Nissan Altima GXE 2.4 liter running again it cranks over but wont start on the OBD Test My check engine light stays on has fir along time.It reads faulty p1320,peer I think but actually it reads on the Diagnostic tool when I plug it in crank engine Over its telling me It Won't start or stay running & misfires cuz ignition coil, crankshaft sensor, pigtail connector to the ignition coil was Melted & corroded bad connection, and i put plugs in it & tuned it up & changed ignition coil that aint it.I turn the engine over it cranks but wont start now& before it was running crappy at idle& when im driving over 40 mph it cuts out & dies on the road or hesitates at acceleration.
Great channel. Love your attitude. I have a 2002 Altima 2.5 The car burns oil (consumes it @ 1 qt every 1000 miles or so). I found significant oil in the spark plug wells. Replace the valve cover gasket. I was told the oil was entering the combustion chamber through worn valve guide seals... Oil burning has killed the Catalytic converter. I can't handle the project in my garage. With only 128K miles!!! Local mechanics tell me piston rings are the reason for the oil consumption. #2 spark plug is definitely dirtier that the others. Any suggestions?
Hello Car Doctor; Thank you for your video. It’s very helpful. I have a 2014 NV 200 and it’s cranking, but it won’t start. It just happened out of the blue. Any suggestions? I love this car. Even thou a woman I use it as my car for work .. I would appreciate your your thoughts on it
Great video OK so now for a single mom who just got a car after a long time without someone gifted me a 2004 Nissan Sentra with 140,000 miles it's been a great car I've only had it a month lol but I let a friend borrow it and they ran it almost out of gas and then put I think old gas in it, and it stopped about a mile from their house and even though I went and put fresh gas in it a couple of gallons it cranks, but it just won't start now and I don't know what to do. I'm without a car again with kids and it's cold. Any ideas?
My 2002 i35 starts and runs fine, but when you turn the car off and try to restart it right away it will not start . If you wait 20mins it will start and runs great with no issues but the problem repeats when you turn the ignition off again . If you removed the battery terminal and reinstall it again the the car will start up right away Any ideas
+The Car Guy....I have an '09 altima...recently had an issue with the vehicle starting. Was diagnosed that I had a random misfire in cylinder # 4 ignition coil and also had bad fuel in tank.I replaced all four ignition coils.I drove the vehicle for one day after replacing the ignition coils. But this a.m the car would not start but would act as if its trying to turn over. What could be the issue?
Go... no go... go... no go LOL! The lack of blinking is an illusion due to the camera refresh rate (just like helicopter blades seem to stand still when viewed in a video).
I have something interesting for you. 06 Nissan xtrail Cranks over but won’t start. I have zero dash lights headlights signals plus everything else lol. Do you have an idea for that?
I have an 05 Sentra 1.8 Liter. Yesterday, while turning, the engine just stopped. I tried and tried to start it to no avail. As I sat there for about 10 minutes, trying to figure out why, I cranked it again. It started!!! I was only able to drive it about 200 yards and it quit again. This happened 5 times until I got home. I ran a diagnostic test on both of my vehicles and one of them said something about a crank sensor. Now that I have seen this, I will check my CS before I plan to replace my fuel pump. Thanks for the info.
My wife's 2009 Nissan Murano has battery/electrical issues. Replaced the battery, 3 times in a year. It may run/start fine for 1 month, or 3 months, then nothing, won't start. If we jump it, it starts right up. Until the next time. The alternator has tested good. Any suggestions is appreciated? Thank you, John G.
Hi we have a 2002 Nissan Sentra ser spec-v, won’t start but cranks, changed fuel pump, alternator, fuel pump relay, ecm relay, crank shaft positioning sensor. We are out of ideas. Would you be able to give us some ideas?
I have a dumb question.....is the crank sensor the same as the neutral safety switch? Mine would not start today (no crank) but a friend said throw it in neutral and try and it started up. Its a 1996 Altima
No, the neutral safety switch is a mounted on the transmission and usually adjustable to only allow the starter to crank when the vehicle is in park or neutral so that it won't suddenly lurch forward unexpectedly when started. It's possible that this is your problem based on the fact that it started once you moved the shifter. If it continues and you find that after moving the shifter it cranks then it may just need adjusted or possibly replaced. Always possible it is a problem with the starter or ignition switch and it just happened to start when the shifter was moved. Hope you get it figured out.
Tim what did you do before TH-cam came along to give you helpful tips and hints?? lol. Sorry but I never noticed your blinking problem. (Just teasing you) As always a great video. A thumb's up. Thanks for sharing.
Well I guess I never blinked before TH-cam. Or maybe it only happens when I stare into the camera. Next video I'm going to blink the whole time hahahaa.
Hello, my car has the same no start issue too, but the crank sensor seems to be working sense the RPM gauge showing some engine revolutions and the fuel pump is triggered too, but got no spark at the coils, any help please.
Some one is selling a 05 sentra for 600 cash with title says it was running with ac and out of no where stopped running cranks but wont start how much you think it would run to fix
Hey Tim I have a 1998 nissan sentra, replaced the crank position sensor but the car still will not start. Not getting any spark still what might have I missed?
Thanks I just got an 08 quest possible flood victim drove it home working fine previous owner replaced 2bay pv I replaced 1st bay and it cranks but won't start. Will you please pray for me and draw upon your great mastery of mechanics and help a humble soul?
. But how did you know the problem was the crank position sensor? I want to be able to sort out the same problem, when I am working on an auto that won't start. Thank you for the video! Happy December to you and your team!
first grab the codes from the ecu, then check TSB's for recalls and known issues, and finally run test to determine if its the part the wiring or the ecu. You don't want to condemn a sensor if a mouse chewed a wire somewhere out of sight. For non mechanics goto the dealers website and look for recalls and there are plenty of forums online to help you. good wiring diagrams may cost you I suggest looking around online
I have a 2007 Nissan Altima it's turning over but it's not cranking what you think could be the problem I didn't change my coil packs are my spark plugs
thank you for your video there is some great information in here! I have a 2009 infinity g37 that had a radiator union brake. I drove it home adding water and stopping when it would start getting hot. The battery also died so I had to jump it on the way home. I replaced the union and the battery (which was old). Now the car cranks but won't start. You mentioned the sensors have an issue with temperature. Do you think the car overheating may have damaged the crankshaft sensor? What about the camshaft sensors? Thanks for your help! Happy easter.
There is no spark. I opened the throttle body and sprayed some starter fluid, tried to start it again and it did the same thing. Cranked but still no start. Thanks for your replies, I appreciate it.
Hi Tim. I have an 06' maxima that stopped on me while driving. I've used 3 different mechanics to troubleshoot and fix parts. So far combined they've changed: both valve covers and valve cover gaskets, the pcv valve, all the spark plugs and ignition coils, both camshaft sensors and the crankshaft sensor, the O2 sensor, the mass airflow sensor (I bought two new ones since i was told by the second one it needed to be from Nissan), and as of yesterday, the fuel pump was changed. It did the same thing, start once then cut off almost immediately, never to start again, only crank. Please help.
Look at this ... I replaced this immobilizer on mine and found a guy with the same computer tool to reprogram it . I showed him this video and we used it to reprogram. There is a guy on eBay that sells used immobilizer for 29 dollars. I bought one and the car ran for a month but now it threw a 0300 random misfire code and won't start again. I hate this car. I hope this might help.
Mine was an 2001 sentra 1.8 with a transponder in the key. I had someone check if my key transponder was good then i searched and searched and luckily found that video about the immobilizer. I still have crank no start issue tho
Sooooo tim don't know if you'll ever see this but we replaced the crankshaft part and the fuel line but it won't start on we don't know what is wrong with it at all
hi, I appreciated your real life video. Thanks for taking the time to share with us. If the crank sensor is faulty, will it interrupt power to the fuel pump? My Nissan Pulsar Q hatch 2001 just stopped as I was doing 100k's down the highway. I is turning over just fine but no start. After many hour of inspection it appears there is no power to the fuel pump. There is power to the fuse, but not at the pump. Any hints would be great, thank you.
I still cant figure out what is wrong with my sentra 05 1.8l I replaced, fuel pump, pligs, boots, crank and tps sensor, I also checked the relays and fuses and they arent blown, i even replaced the ecm. I just cant figure out what is wrong. I hit a deer in the front middle kind of near the left headlight. Replaced the radiator, and fixed a bunch of other stuff, but ordered the wrong fan to the radiator and I found out my uncle plugged the one side in and spliced the other in it and it worked for id say about a week and i noticed it wasnt turning the fan on. I mightve overheated it a little but after that i drove not even a few miles and i was going to drive it so i can get it parked and looked at and it just all shut off while i was driving, it just acted like i just turned the key to acc and it brought up all the lights and i havent been able to get it to spark sense and like i mentioned in the begining I repoaced all those first things after it shut off while i was driving it. Ive been searching and searching for a fix and havent been lucky yet.
Just wondering .. I have an 02 Altima sounded just like that car Cranks .. no Kick .. I recently replaced the Crank Sensor in January so 5 months ago .. Would you tell me that they can be that random to only last a few months and some last forever ? or should i be looking at something else. Relay to the Pump is Clicking The Fuse is good I replaced the Fuel pump just to Replace it and its priming.. Any Suggestions ?
Changed both and still no fire. Checked the fuel fuse and changed the fuel pump and still cranks but won't start. If the fuel relay is out will the pump make noise?
I have an 2003 Nissan sentra that will not turn over. crank sensor and can sensor replaced. fuel pump kicks in... basically everything checked except timing chain. What should I have my mechanic check? Is the engine blown?
Hello!! I got a 2012 Nissan Maxima and it has no lights at all, no instrument panel light. This car with try to start without the smart key but, wont start up. Can you help??
I have a 2005 Nissan Altima with a V6 I have no spark I checked two of the coils in the front no spark I do have voltage to the coils with the key on and I also have voltage to the injectors with the key on I did not check for injector pulse cuz I do not have any type of noise light I don't even have a multimeter right now is there any other way to check those crank and cam sensors I have no codes however I understand sometimes the crank sensor will not throw a code. I do have the dongle that plugs into the dash the assembly line diagnostic connector and I have Torque Pro and torque light and I have Carissa and piston and a few other apps is there any way to check the crankshaft position sensor with some type of live live data on the aforementioned apps that I have? Or if I got a hold of a voltmeter can I check the output within digital multimeter set to AC volts? Also does these cars have a ignition module like the dis system on a general motors car?
I been having same issue with mines. I suspected the crank sensor Kinda ignored it. Looked up TSB ( Technical Service Bulletins) seen also ECM ( Electronic Control Module) recalls for that year model. When I replace my Crank Sensor shoot you message if that fixed it. The pump well got that rigged in a way its run off a switch at the moment.
Do you have a video on a 2015 Nissan Quest SV that won't start? Mine has 57,000 mi. On it and won't start. It tries to stay on but sounds like a misfire. Any clue?
Hi my 2004 maxima overheat for hole in a hose when we fix it start the car and run over 2 minutes and shut down itself and don't run any more we check cam sensors and everythings good but no spark on plugs and car alarm is on Question._ can be the computer or what? Thanks in advance and sorry about my english
Hi, I will watch this again. I own a 2002 nissan sentra and when it is cold it cranks but doesn't start. When I let it spin for a few minutes it finally does start. Then after running it awhile, I shut it off and it starts up right away. I took it to my local car repair shop and he couldn't find any problems. There is a evap error message though. Any idea what is going on?
I have a 2000 nissan maxima with 118,000 miles on it and it's hard to after multiple of times than it'll start up and run fine with no problems.i replaced the crankshaft position sensor and I can hear the fuel pump kicking on.But once I turn the car off it'll start back over all again I was trying to see what you think it might be.Thanks
Did you ever figure out the problem? Im having the same issues right now with my 2012 Nissan Sentra have a long crank it starts sometimes and then sometimes it starts off first few seconds of cranking it
02 Xterra 3.3 Supercharged. completed a bunch of work, knock sensor, plugs, wires, distributor, cap and rotor, fuel pump and sending unit, fuel filter. Ran great for a day, died cranks but won't start. has spark, disconnected fuel filter to see if pump was working a few ounces of fuel than nothing, shouldn't the fuel pump continuously deliver fuel with the key in the run position? I've been trying to trouble shoot a P0300 code, now the no start issue. any help would be appreciated.
The fuel pump only runs for a few seconds after turning the key to start position and won't continue unless it sees an RPM reference. What's the fuel pressure? Does it have injector pulse.
hi car doctor we have 2010 nissan pathfinder turbo diesel . it cranks but wont start :( we have checked the crank sensor and map sensor and tried fuel priming it and the Suction Control/Pressure Regulator Valve any ideas what it could be and got new glow plugs ... could it be the starter motor ??
I have a 2004 Sentra 1.8 and it has a similar problem, in which I changed out the crankshaft postion sensor and still did not start. I have also replaced all four coils due to the car not having a distributor. What would be the next thing to look at?
I have a 2003 Nissan maxima in great condition inside and out. I had it sitting up for a while, I lost the key and then got it replaced after they reprogramed my key and I changed the battery in car. The car wouldn't start. Previous before this the car had no issue cranking up.
Status up date! I had found out that when changing the crankshaft positioning sensor one should also replace the camshaft positioning sensor as well. @@ThecardoctorTVi have a 2006 Nissan Sentra that cranks but takes a long time to start. Is it more than likely the Crankshaft sensor?

I was having the same issue on a 2009 Nissan Rogue SL

thank you

Probably need a diagnostic tool (hardware device)
Correct
Yes, bu y another car..
Nissian was a better quality vehicle when it assembled in Japan and shipped over to the United States!!!
I have changed it. But still wont start n it only start when i put it in the wrong position
Was the check engine light on when it was brought in?
yes, but its always on when it isn't running

Hello Car Doctor;
Thank you for your video. It’s very helpful. I have a 2014 NV 200 and it’s cranking, but it won’t start. It just happened out of the blue. Any suggestions?
I love this car. Even thou a woman I use it as my car for work .. I would appreciate your your thoughts on it
Thanks so how did you figure out that the problem was the sensor? Did the Diagnostic Tool show that it was the problem?
What did you do to it
kia ora from new zealand . That was very informative.
That is not a bald tire sir' at the limit but not bald some of the ones I have replaced have got the cords showing
And why point out about the battery 🤣
thanks for the extra blinking brother you're doing a great job. remember ...healthy eyes are happy eyes...
haha
What type of meter is the you are using
Hey good day I'm just curious do you think the Nissan hr15 engine can work in the Nissan lafesta?
Great video OK so now for a single mom who just got a car after a long time without someone gifted me a 2004 Nissan Sentra with 140,000 miles it's been a great car I've only had it a month lol but I let a friend borrow it and they ran it almost out of gas and then put I think old gas in it, and it stopped about a mile from their house and even though I went and put fresh gas in it a couple of gallons it cranks, but it just won't start now and I don't know what to do. I'm without a car again with kids and it's cold. Any ideas?
I have a 01 Nissan Xterra an it shut off on me on the highway I'm guessing its the crank sensor or something I'm no mechanic still learning
Do all these Sentra have same issues.i have a 2012 Nissan Sentra 2.0 and it's doing the same thing.
Oh I never noticed that. I should up my frame rate to capture this phenomenon.
Thanks for making this video, going to try the verus component test on my maxima
I have something interesting for you. 06 Nissan xtrail Cranks over but won’t start. I have zero dash lights headlights signals plus everything else lol. Do you have an idea for that?
Quick response if you can!! thanks so much!
Even 7 years later, that gum joke is pretty funny
Hi we have a 2002 Nissan Sentra ser spec-v, won’t start but cranks, changed fuel pump, alternator, fuel pump relay, ecm relay, crank shaft positioning sensor. We are out of ideas. Would you be able to give us some ideas?
I have this problem right now with an 05 Altima. I replace the cps tonight but it still won’t turn over. I am out of cash and need help.
Bless! Me too! Ive had no luck with used cars the past decade!
Way to ignore your customers...that was me calling
Thanks for.sharing your time and this video Tim. Love the flexible battery holder.Simplicity at its best! lol
We like to keep it simple here in Alaska. Simply crappy
Took batteryout of nissan maxisma put new one in it started upran fine then died wont start set anti theft alarm
I have 2005 Nissan Altima 2.5L the car crank but no stars no spark in coils no signal on injectors no code scanner shows not connected
E
Tim what did you do before TH-cam came along to give you helpful tips and hints?? lol. Sorry but I never noticed your blinking problem. (Just teasing you) As always a great video. A thumb's up. Thanks for sharing.
Well I guess I never blinked before TH-cam. Or maybe it only happens when I stare into the camera. Next video I'm going to blink the whole time hahahaa.
Be careful blanking to much. Some women might think you are flirting with her. And show at your door, lol. Damn that would be crazy.
That type of blinking could lead to brain damage...from wife hitting me over the head with cast iron pan.
Hello, my car has the same no start issue too, but the crank sensor seems to be working sense the RPM gauge showing some engine revolutions and the fuel pump is triggered too, but got no spark at the coils, any help please.
My daughter has an 03 altima. This seems to be the same issue. So we put in a new crank position sensor and still won't start. Tia
Did you ever figure out your daughters car’s problem? I’ve got an 03 Sentra and have the same problem changed the sensor and still won’t start
Changed a crank sensor yesterday on a 06 Altima. They have a real problem with their crank and cam sensors. I like that flexible battery holder 😆
l
So strange they go for ten years then suddenly die like that
Yep we get them around 80000-100000 miles
What do u think happen to my 1997 sentra it has a power but it wont start ? What maybe the problem ?? Can you help me to figure out
I have a 2007 Nissan Altima it's turning over but it's not cranking what you think could be the problem I didn't change my coil packs are my spark plugs
Tim you crack me up. When you said you have to blink more I choked on my ring ding. Great videos I've leaned a lot thank you.
haha, thank you...wink wink
thank you for your video there is some great information in here!
Does it have spark and fuel?
The Car Doctor I can hear the fuel pump when turn the car on. Spark I'm not sure.
check for spark then injector pulse and even fuel pressure is a good idea. Check codes if possible
There is no spark. I opened the throttle body and sprayed some starter fluid, tried to start it again and it did the same thing. Cranked but still no start. Thanks for your replies, I appreciate it.
If you had use of a scanner and can view crank and cam sensor PIDs that would help. You can also use a lab scope and look at the waveforms.
Man the maxima is a money pit. I have 05 SL. Changed the same stuff as you. My next option is the crank sensor or ignition switch
Have yall tried the immobizer?
Look at this ... I replaced this immobilizer on mine and found a guy with the same computer tool to reprogram it . I showed him this video and we used it to reprogram. There is a guy on eBay that sells used immobilizer for 29 dollars. I bought one and the car ran for a month but now it threw a 0300 random misfire code and won't start again. I hate this car. I hope this might help.
th-cam.com/video/HccLf4b2d5s/w-d-xo.html
Mine was an 2001 sentra 1.8 with a transponder in the key. I had someone check if my key transponder was good then i searched and searched and luckily found that video about the immobilizer. I still have crank no start issue tho
Sooooo tim don't know if you'll ever see this but we replaced the crankshaft part and the fuel line but it won't start on we don't know what is wrong with it at all
Same boat. Did you get it figured out?
@@Issicra yes we did but I'd have to ask my dad what he did cause I don't remember give me a sec
@@Issicra ok so what he did was he went and got a starter for the car and switched it out and that worked fine
@@LostMindedAF Oh cool. Thanks!
@@Issicra yeah
Would this cause the security light to stay on when I try and start it if crank sensor is bad
nope that has something to do with the key or security system you can pull data with a 50.00 Bluetooth OBD II scanner from walmart

hi, I appreciated your real life video.
Mine tries to start ….broke down tonight. Been smelling a funky exhaust smell when first starting.
Nice fix there doctor. I sure do enjoy stopping by and watching you blink! (ha ha)
im so glad you do. I'll keep doing my eyelid exercises and by this fall should be blinking like a boss!
Did your scan tool show crankshaft rpm ?
Changed both and still no fire. Checked the fuel fuse and changed the fuel pump and still cranks but won't start. If the fuel relay is out will the pump make noise?
My problem was rotted wire in the loom under the fuse box the check engine light would go out while cranking
I'm sure the crank sensor will get you back on the road. Good luck.
Do you have a video on a 2015 Nissan Quest SV that won't start? Mine has 57,000 mi. On it and won't start. It tries to stay on but sounds like a misfire. Any clue?
Hi my 2004 maxima overheat for hole in a hose when we fix it start the car and run over 2 minutes and shut down itself and don't run any more we check cam sensors and everythings good but no spark on plugs and car alarm is on
Question._ can be the computer or what? Thanks in advance and sorry about my english
Hi, I will watch this again. I own a 2002 nissan sentra and when it is cold it cranks but doesn't start. When I let it spin for a few minutes it finally does start. Then after running it awhile, I shut it off and it starts up right away. I took it to my local car repair shop and he couldn't find any problems. There is a evap error message though. Any idea what is going on?
Possible evap control issue. Purge or vent valve problem would cause those symptoms. Need to have it tested by someone who knows what to look for.
REMEMBER THE OPTICAL DIST, FIASCO THEM CAM AND CRANK SENSORS AND NOW CVT'S
yes, sad.
hi car doctor we have 2010 nissan pathfinder turbo diesel . it cranks but wont start :( we have checked the crank sensor and map sensor and tried fuel priming it and the Suction Control/Pressure Regulator Valve any ideas what it could be and got new glow plugs ... could it be the starter motor ??
Good to see you have attended to the blinking concerns. Next please could you make sure you wear pants in all your videos. Many thanks
You're asking a lot you know. Oh wait, I thought you were talking about my"other" video channel. ;)
THANK YOU!!!!! My Nissan sentra is acting the same way
hope you get it fixed!
I have a 2004 Sentra 1.8 and it has a similar problem, in which I changed out the crankshaft postion sensor and still did not start. I have also replaced all four coils due to the car not having a distributor. What would be the next thing to look at?
Does it have spark? Injector pulse? Fuel pressure? Compression?
Where are you located ?
I have a 2003 Nissan maxima in great condition inside and out. I had it sitting up for a while, I lost the key and then got it replaced after they reprogramed my key and I changed the battery in car. The car wouldn't start. Previous before this the car had no issue cranking up.
can you please help me start somewhere??
