He needs to focus on music besides Kendrick he's put out some of the most impactful hip hop albums in the last 10-12 years..... The man has the talent and range and has a base
I just felt like bro started taking Ls when he started beefing with Benny I mean coming from a major Freddie fan ever since then it’s been rocky from him but hope he can bounce back 🗿
Waiting to see how he comes back from all the controversy. The days of him wilding on social media are sorely missed, his music is still fire so what happens next will make or break his career.
Well guys, I'm an OG, 55 and the only thing I know about Freddie, I learned watching this documentary. But IMO and from what little bit I know about this hip hop scene, Freddie probably didn't make the big time, because there's something about him that's not marketable. There's a lot of rappers with less talent than Freddie, who made it. Why, because something about them is marketable. Freddie hasn't played the LGBT card, so maybe that's why he hasn't made it. I don't know, I'm just a 55-year old dude, who's way out of his lane discussing this with you youngsters.
Shout out to Freddie Gibbs. I was attending Ball State University when he was playing football and stayed in the same dorms. I had no clue he was a rapper. I dropped out and joined the Air Force. Years later while listening to Sirius satellite I kept hearing the name Freddie and he came to mind but I didn't know it was him until I saw him in a interview.
The biggest lesson I've learned with Freddie is to separate the art from the artist. He can make fire and time less music but he keeps taking L after L. It's a rough time to be a Freddie Gibbs fan. But honestly who cares at the end of the day. He's one of the best MCs of our generation so really we should just appreciate the music.
Do you really have to separate the art with Fred?? I guess if you really wanted to believe he was some untouchable drug lord. 😂 He didn’t do some R. Kelly shit or anything wrong, just talk shit and get beat up.
Freddie wilds out and does crazy shyt at times but honestly the dude is NICE AF and it's hard to deny his talent whether you love him or hate him as a person. Every project he drops I check for.
Ive been listening to him since 2011, none of these problems hes had with people are gonna change my opinion of him. Hes a great rapper period. None of that other stuff matters to me

Dope video & assessment of Freddie's career. As someone who was trying to create a buzz back in 2010, I really admire Gibbs' perseverance. Like a lot of artists, things don't immediately take off, even though they sign to a major label/ distributor. Then to go the independent route & carve out a following, leading to your career coming full circle, is so Inspirational. Though I Never listened to the entire "Alfredo" / Alchemist collab, nor the entire "King's Disease" / Nas & Hitboy collab... I Really love the song "Baby sh*t" off of Freddie's album, and that alone makes me bias towards him. And wish that he won the Grammy over Nas (despite growing up listening to Nas, as well as being from the midAtlantic.)
Every great artist is a train wreck in their own mind. Freddie just hasn’t managed his life and when he finally does he will stop writing. David Bowie said he was afraid to become content because then he wouldn’t want to write anymore. That’s a real fear some really great artists have. Bowie had to learn to be happy and Freddie has to learn the same lesson. In the meantime his music is pure fire 🔥
Couldn’t have summed this up any better myself I never fully thought of what that overseas jail stint could’ve done to Gibbs mind but NGL the last 2 years or so have kept my face in my palm it kinda sucks seeing these hits his rep/image has taken especially given since I been rocking with him since the XXL cover I definitely recall saying to myself that when the Buffalo incident occurred that he really should just go home be with his family and reassess his life but … I’m always wishing the best Gibbs is top 10 always and forever I think you should do a Dom Kennedy video as soon as possible before stunted growth does bc I really thought Dom was going to be HUGE when I first started bumping him in 2010 (fell off with him mid 2013)
AGREED. Seeing how he going out with his newest BM was tragic for me. I rocked with his music for so long and at a certain point around the time cold day came out I met & smoked with him, he showed me hella love at the time I almost feel like he may not be the same person. No way a nigga could rap that hungry shit for so long & go out this sad. All these niggas in the comments making excuses for bro should be ashamed as well💯😒
I fucked with Freddie Gibbs and still rocked his music. The beefs and controversies didn't take a hit on his career per se. Just his presence on social media... In fact, I think that a lot of hip hop fans waited for Gibbs to take L's for years because of his rabid shit-talking, social media antics and his rep as a Vice Lord. The biggest L that Freddie took was impregnating a peon who sells content on OF in his early 40s. He should've married with his last baby mama who is more of a modest lady. Outside of that... getting jumped by over 20 men and performing on stage at the same day isn't a L to me. He didn't get knocked out. Most people would've tapped out. The same ones that said his gangsta is fabricated would have their iron with them if they're getting jumped or ran away. Nothing more contradicting and habitual line stepping than niggas... Especially when the same situation is on their way. The energy will never be the same and that's hilarious. I still don't believe Jim Jones (a rapper who took the most L's in the 2000s) and his posse beat Freddie Gibbs and his guards up in Miami. It was a minor scruffle. And you know this era of hip-hop is in a blizzaro world when Jim Jones is relevant and people believing his lies especially in the streets. LMAO Real fans knows Gibbs is flawed... But, he still entertaining and his mental resilience in uncomfortable positions made people to respect him more. All I learn from Gibbs is not having bad taste in women, not making baby mamas and making insensitive remarks to ruin relationships. Because of the Benny beef... The culture lost a potential duo, incredible music and a friendship. Same apply with him and Curren$y. With all that said... Gibbs is going to be among the all time greats in Hip-hop after all said and done. He should concentrate on music and other endeavors instead of beefing in a petty way. Or the better advice is reconcile and patching up relationships to lessen the stain that's happening right now. That's my opinion.
yup if he would have married Erica and just stopped with the hoes he would have been way better off. she held it down when he was locked up but Gibbs is his own man at the end of the day 🤷🏽♂️
Rap fans are corny for considering getting jumped as an L to begin with. The fuck he supposed to do, turn into the incredible hulk? Show me someone who can win a scrap with 20 dudes in real life.
@@LiquidDIO Exactly. Hella corny... The majority of them wouldn't last. Imagine if Gibbs got his steel and he deleted a few of Benny's men... Now, they will switch up and say "That's foul and he's stupid for that". When most of them will do the same thing. They move the goalpost all the time to justify shit. I hated it.
Coming back to this after the new album. In my opinion, best solo Gibbs album in almost 10 years (Shadow of a Doubt) maybe even my personal favorite not counting Madlib/Alchemist and Curren$y collabs
Great video and it came at the right time because I was just thinking about whether or not Freddie Gibbs really lived the life he claims he did. I swear when he didn't expose so much of his life and had this aura of mystique about him, that's when he was a beast for real! Artists have to learn how to shut up and keep a level of mystery about him.
Great analysis here. Freddie is an amazing talent. He and Curren$y are my two favorite rappers, but the latest controversy between Bennie and his ex did sour his image. The new album is fire though. I'm still a fan just hoping he focuses on the music and checks the ego at the door.

I wish Gibbs would just focus on the music and stay off the internet unless he's promoting music. I always knew he had the talent and happy for his success later in his career but it seems the bigger he's gotten as a artists the harder he's falling. It seems he has some internal issues and I hope he gets help and doesn't crash out.

I got put on to Freddie Gibbs back in the day when I used to look on Nah Right's website. I heard National Anthem off of the Str8 Killa EP and loved that beat and how he was flowing on it. He definitely had vocals that made him stand out. One thing you didn't mention was his beef with Jeezy after leaving CTE which definitely left a bad taste in my mouth with Freddie. It just felt like it came out of no where and he was doing it to gain clout. Looking at this docu definitely put that move he made into perspective giving all the work he put in leading up to that point and I can see why he made such a desperate move but I still don't agree with it. Like others said, if you just merit his music alone and ignore all the strange choices and what I see as antics he makes outside that he definitely deserves some recognition.
I remember when I first heard of him, he came to my city and I ended up winning two tickets to his show, that shii was hard, seen him perform east side moonwalker and some other hard songs 😮💨🔥

I met him very briefly a year ago, he seemed like a real down to earth and laid back guy, don't even care what he does online, he hasn't done enough to seem like a bad person. Also his music fire.
Controversial shit doesn’t outweigh the fact this man has lyrical talent. There’s nobody touching Freddie in this gangsta shit in the game rn maybe Jayrock but even then. I’d still put Gibbs work over any jayrock album any day
@@noneofyourbusiness1114I fw Benny but he is not better at spitting than Freddie he was made for this Benny was influenced by his cousins Conway & west side to rap
I remember hearing stories of when he was a drug dealer in Gary that were just fucking crazy too, apparently him and a few others robbed a freight train once 😂
Did Freddie even do anything wrong? I feel like people who care about the shit talked about at the end are just chronically online. None of that stuff really affects the music, and I’d think most people don’t even know about the at stuff
Great work on your part … but for Freddie, nobody is perfect and fame is a hard beast to tame … he’s not the only one who went through this walk. I hope he bounces back and shows us dope music. Everybody likes a good come back story .
Agreed with everything you said man. Freddie was my favorite rapper in the 2010s. But in the last few years the beefing shit really turned me off from him. But can’t deny how good his music is.
My dad used to live in Gary Indiana. My two older brothers were born n raised up there. My dad and oldest brother died. I haven't been their since 1989. I was 6 yrs old.
7:59 I mean, the man wasn't exactly wrong because at that specific time. We're talking about a military who let an NFL athlete join to go to war and fight for his country, and he was literally killed by friendly fire. And it was also under some suspicion that the guy was drunk when he did it. But that was literally covered up by our own government. And we were lied to for months and they hid everything from the investigation and his family that they could just to cover up. The truth and they don't care about the guys that are cooked out of their mind 3 days a week, but that dude that smoked a joint a month ago?.... He should be dishonorably discharged. F*** out of here.
If he would’ve kept his image mysterious, but comedic, bro would be mentioned with Tyler, far as success, celebrity, and praise for his artistry. The man has stone cold classics, undeniable timeless music, and unique far as his talent goes. Then his videos are cinematic af, it’s almost like a hip hop version of a musical for The Wire. But, the shenanigans, and horrible optics with playing with his image doing sucka shii.. that really crippled his career, even if nobody will admit it.
I heard Freddie 1 time and was hooked. I appreciate this man's music that has changed my life for the better and I'm just some random white boy. Who gives a fuck about his dirty laundry ur trying to make him look like shit.
What are your current thoughts of Freddie Gibbs?

Pinata, alfredo and fetti are top tier projects 👌 it's frank Lucas ft benny on alfedo for me
"For you" 🥱🙄
I met him very briefly a year ago, he seemed like a real down to earth and laid back guy, don't even care what he does online, he hasn't done enough to seem like a bad person. Also his music fire.
Thanks for tha video
Cold day in hell was such a fcukin classic I still bang that!
Fcts
What’s this song in the background
In the intro
Controversial shit doesn’t outweigh the fact this man has lyrical talent. There’s nobody touching Freddie in this gangsta shit in the game rn maybe Jayrock but even then. I’d still put Gibbs work over any jayrock album any day
Benny the butcher
@@noneofyourbusiness1114I fw Benny but he is not better at spitting than Freddie he was made for this Benny was influenced by his cousins Conway & west side to rap
Damn freddie gibbs really been through hell.
I remember hearing stories of when he was a drug dealer in Gary that were just fucking crazy too, apparently him and a few others robbed a freight train once 😂
Did Freddie even do anything wrong? I feel like people who care about the shit talked about at the end are just chronically online. None of that stuff really affects the music, and I’d think most people don’t even know about the at stuff
brah what is the name of the first song dat shit hard! the first gibbs song
th-cam.com/video/7MR-hsTNwuE/w-d-xo.html
Yea that shit is hard af! He got another sleeper track that I think is one of his best called "all cognac" have you heard it?
As far as an Artist, he's 🔥
Bro you are from Nebraska? That's crazy, I love the videos and it's great to see a fellow Nebraskan making such great content
Yup. Omaha born and raised
@cloutcancun That's dope bro. Keep up the great work
🙏🏿 a Benny & Gibbs project would have been 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 2 of my favorites…damn wish they could reconcile
I never knew this about Gary Indiana. Now I will research Gary Indiana history.
Baby face Killa is by far my favorite Freddie Gibbs album.
Great job 💯 One of my all time favorite artists 💯
Mann I used to have that crime pays on repeat 🔥🔥🔥
Getting jumped twice kinda made it hard being a big Freddie fan but the Spreadie thing made it crazy hard 😂
Yeah man. I be rootin for the nigga and he end up lookin goofy online, beefin wit dj ak and shit. That aint gnagsta, gangstalicious.
ok cartman
Goofy ah
Anyone can be jumped the odds are against you then and the speedy thing that was between him and his woman not like he was asking for a man.
Great work on your part … but for Freddie, nobody is perfect and fame is a hard beast to tame … he’s not the only one who went through this walk. I hope he bounces back and shows us dope music. Everybody likes a good come back story .
I remember back in the day people used to drop Freddie gibbs name along with Chris webby in the TH-cam comments 🔥

Where's the freestyle of Gibbs rapping over the Iverson beat? And is the beat ' 40 Bars ' by any chance?
Great documentary!
Banned made me a fan. Now i listen to Freddie Gibbs every day
7:59 I mean, the man wasn't exactly wrong because at that specific time.
Idgaf what NObody says or thinks or no haters I'm roccin with Gibbs til the end 💯💯💯
12:48 Great point on gangsta rap!
15:13 HE WENT IN OVER THAT SADE SAMPLE, ONE OF THE BEST SONGS FROM THE TAPE FRFR!
Whats the Name of the first song

I heard Freddie 1 time and was hooked. I appreciate this man's music that has changed my life for the better and I'm just some random white boy. Who gives a fuck about his dirty laundry ur trying to make him look like shit.
Sprinkling pills on his weed? What a waste of pills. Lol… 🤦♂️
