I remember when Kanye was about to release “Late Registration “ and he stated he wanted to make an album you can put on and wouldn’t need to skip any tracks, like if you’re cleaning your house or cooking.
Not colloquially known as a “press-play”
      Super rare to make happen

This album epitomizes the west coast for that era. The sounds and music makes you think. California. The original chronic was groundbreaking brining the g funk sound but this album cements the sound as the official west coast sound.

21:36 Dr. Dre said Eminem wrote Forgot About Dre for him & Snoop Dogg originally and Eminem did the reference vocals for Snoop Dogg but Dr. Dre liked the way it sounded with Eminem on it, so they just kept it that way and Dr. Dre did his vocals and that was it. th-cam.com/video/o0hawoYz11o/w-d-xo.html (At 2:54 mark) Also Eminem actually did write the whole song as on the 2001 album back cover, Eminem is credited for writing both of Dr. Dre’s verses and as you already mentioned Dr. Dre even said "Eminem actually wrote that. He came in and was like, ‘I got this song I wrote for you.’
The song is considered a response to the Death Row Records compilation album Suge Knight Represents Chronic 2000 Still Smokin', Death Row Records artists Tha Realest, Swoop G, Twist & Lil C Style responded with a song called F*** Dre where they diss Dr. Dre, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, N.W.A & Nate Dogg on a modified beat of the Forgot About Dre song, the song is on the Death Row Records compilation album Too Gangsta For Radio that came out in September 2000

I know kids don't buy CD's anymore but this is the ONLY CD I ever bought multiple copies of back in high school. The entire album slaps, even the skits (Ed-Ucation might be the greatest rap skit of all time imo). Also a shame that Hittman didn't do much after this, I loved his bars on this album.
edit: top 5 for me is kind of impossible. I absolutely love every song except for The Message (still a good song, just doesn't really fit imo). Big Egos is probably my favorite at the moment but that changes almost every time I listen to the whole album

How does everyone feel about Snoop Dogg removing the entire death row catalog off of Spotify and other streaming services and only wants to sell them as an NFT in the meta-verse? I get that Artists don’t get paid a lot of money from streaming, but at the same time, not everyone can afford an NFT, they just wanna listen to the album that’s it. If you wanna listen to the OG chronic album, it’s no longer on Spotify neither is doggy style, also, he’s trying to get a hold of 2Pac’s catalog next.

The first the reason I like it is because the songs got that funky party vibe, added with undeniable bounce. Chronic 2001 for me is more cenematic dark and a little laid back in the production process. Both albums just makes you want to either dance or zone out!

Iovine is straight cappin. According to Eminem (and Dre), Eminem gave a copy of the Slim Shady LP to a woman at the rap olympics, who eventually ended up getting a position at Interscope (by chance). SHE gave the record to Iovine, along with a bunch of other demos. Iovine forwarded the tapes to dre, and eventually Dre listened to it. He claims he never even realized Em was white until he showed up for that first recording session.

Dope video!!🍻 Bro I still listen to 2001 today. Ive always wondered about the Housewife track. It was originally recorded for Kurupts album as Hos a housewife. If you listen to both versions it sounds like they re-recorded the song for Dre album. Speaking as a fan they both sound similiar but to keep it real everybody verse sound better on Kurupts album.

An unsorted batch of some info not mentioned in the video.
There's a bunch of tracks that surfaced from his 1996 "Papa got a brand new bag" sessions including that smoking weed and OG Dre solo "California Love". Probably the album was supposed to have more Dre solo joints as "Been there, done that" and "Keep the heads ringing on" were also solo joints, which normally is very rare for Dre.
OG "the next episode" was indeed a leftover from Snoop's "Doggystyle" album. It was most likely cut at the very end of the album's development as it's still printed on the tracklist on the album's first pressing with "G's up, H's down". Because of the nature and quality of the sound the OG version sound very haunting and i absolutely love it.
I always thought "The Watcher", which is my favourite track off the album, was written by Nas. It's because i never really found Em to be "street" introspective (diff to general introspectiveness), which is something that Nas excels at.
I believe the album took a hard turn around mid 1998 when Em, X & Storch were added to the team. Before that apparently the theme for the album was sort of a continuation of the creepy futuristic style Dre had under Sam Sneed in the mid 90's. Around 2 years ago a tape surfaced with a batch of demo joints including possibly the earliest track for the album called "Airwave Terrorists" and possibly the very first variant of the "What's the difference". It was back, when Melman, Hittman & Diezel were the main guys behind the album. All of "What's the difference" versions have a different Dre verse. Technically if you combined all of them you would achieve a Dre solo joint.
There's an unrecognizeable amount of unreleased and never seen stuff off this album. Possibly the most known is "Malibu Dre", which was supposed to be the first single before "Still Dre" was finished. There's also a theory that some joints from Snoop's "No Limit Top Dogg" album were early leftovers from 2001 album. Snoop's album was released in mid 99, so a couple of months before 2001.

Last time i listened to "The Watcher" was quite some time ago and i wrote that part from memory. I decided to relisten to it and i admit i can hear Eminem all over the place. I always liked the tight yet bumpy stuff more so things like the aforementioned watcher, "Murda Ink" etc are more in my lane than Xplosive etc.
