    You are spot on Steve, I have built many race and rally cars and adjusting the height of the rack is a well known cure for bump steer.....

      Thanks. I was well happy it worked. Car drives so much better now over bumps.

    I appreciate these technical videos..... No matter how suspension geometry is explained, I just don't get it.

    Hello. I have major bump steer on my 2012 fiesta tdci. I have replaced springs shocks control arms inner & outer tie rods & sway bar bushes. Had it tracked but if I hit a stone it moves my steering wheel a lot also up around the 60mph mark the car feels very loose & hard to keep in a straight line . My car is supposed to have 195 45 16 tyres on it but I got it with 205 45 16 would the extra width cause this problem. Many thanks for your video's and the information you give out.

      If your steering wheel gets forced it move that's not bump steer. Bump steer is the wheels turning while hitting a bump but the steering wheel doesn't move.

    the only thing that you're missing in the entire equation is that after you put washers to raise the steering rack you changed the default geometry so realistically you had to go and make alignment and THEN make the measurements again. I like you and i hope i'm wrong as i'm not a specialist but i think and feel something will be very off when you make alignment and measure again..
    To add, i still wish you made something similar for the ST170. But now i remember - the original inner tie rod had some recess in it which was not present on the normal focuses and on the aftermarket parts, do you think this has something to do with this ? And there goes another question: what will happen if you put washers on the tie rod?

    • @Sparkplugsteve
      @Sparkplugsteve  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes it does alter the tracking alignment but there's no future issue to worry about there when its all finalised. You can't space a standard rod end as it's a tapered fit. Thanks.

    yep you got that sussed out aim for both bottom suspension arm and trackrod to move in parallel and although its not perfect as they generally dont pivot from the same centre but its as good as you can make it nice drawings by the way well theorised its not easy to do on road cars

      Spark Plug Steve they make even the most technical bits look simple to do. Definitely another level of skill. I’m not frightened to give things a go currently trying to fit a focus st170 in Tina mk4 escort van but I’m a long way off there level.
