- Tesco car wash broke my fiesta st rear spoiler. tesco basically dont care and take no responsibility which is dissapointing as the machine is malfunctioning in my opinion. iv used it many times before without issue but this time the roller jammed and stopped spinning as it got too close to the car and snapped the spoilers mounting brackets

👍👍👍 I usually wash my car by hand, but sometimes I'm in a hurry to use a brushless washing machine (Focus ST Mk4)
Steve if you like the look of the RS spoiler it's the best time to get a non st spoiler which is cheap and add the rs one on top.
Its not my cup of tea, but if mine were to break, I'd do that
Might suggest plastic welding, if it doesn't shatter into more pieces. You would likely need a lot of filler material (zip ties work well). Inserting small office staples into the hot plastic will add some rigidity.
That is the reason I don’t use car washes unlucky. I think you’re better off doing it yourself 👍👍🍺
If its made from common ABS, super glue would glue it just fine and actually be very strong. The trick is to prep the surfaces very well. 3m Seam sealer also is great, as is specially plastic epoxy.
I've got all the gear at home to wash the car ; but just too lazy . I'd always stick it through the Tesco's wash . Not anymore . I've not idea how you didn't swear once during this video buddy . Lovely view of the countryside around you ! Another great video , keep them coming
Do you have touch-less car washes in the UK? Much better for swirl marks and paint quality

I can't believe the cheek of Tesco not paying for the damage. I worked in a petrol station with a car wash and they always paid out for any damage caused unless it was the customers fault. This was the fault of the carwash and is obviously a faulty sensor

I have seen people lose a back window in the past where the brush grabs the rear wiper and pulls it off along with the arm, motor and glass. I would guess the system requires alignment but it is up to how it is configured.
Glad you fixed it, like you say if it causes problems you can replace or Epoxy/fibreglass the holes then retap the screw threads.
At second glance it looks to be ABS based on the residue on Steve's finger. If you use a good quality cyanoacrylic resin glue, it should glue just fine with ABS.

It's been off before ye can see the scratches most likely it was over tighten in the past, I'd use even epoxy for that it be rock hard!

I once drove my 6month old car trough a car wash.
After the first dunce the front brush started moving towards the car, and should normally lift but didn’t.
Apparently a sensor was broken so it didn’t recognize the car. It completely tore up the bonnet, crushed the windshield and by then I had jumped out and pressed the emergency stop, that didn’t work, so I ran to the next one, soaking wet pushed it, which stopped the car wash.
I still drive my car trough a car was once per week, always wondering if it will happen again.
Did they pay for the damage?
@@Sparkplugsteve yeah, my insurance company delt with their insurance that covered the cost. The damage too the car was extensive and I had to rent a car to get back home (300 miles away).

Very common on these cars. Mine actually fell off just from playing my music too loud. Granted, i have two 15" subwoofers on 16,000 watts, but still it just rattled right off until I saw it hanging by the wire in my back window
@kadafi39 well, just so you know it is 16,000 rms for entire system. I have tuned the amps to very rarely clip when going full tilt but I do get a total of 15,700 watts measured on my SMD AMM-1. of course, that is not sustained long term, just burps, and that quick burst is actually the straw that broke my spoilers back. By the way my two 15s are rated 3000 watts rms, 6000 max. And I have proven multiple times in the past year that those numbers are at least slightly underrated. BlackBrick Brickhouse 15s dual 2ohm vc each wired to 1ohm on its own amplifier. Amplifiers are 2 Taramps Bass 8ks that do reach 7k on burps with no clip. Mids/highs on a JP234 wired to around 1.6 ohms per channel producing 2000 watts total. And I know, the mids/highs amp is not producing 2000 watts at the same moment that the taramps are producing their 14000 watts due to frequency ranges, so, you got me there

Your argument would be that it is not fit for purpose and as such Tesco has breached your consumer rights.

I detail, but if I'm really in a pinch and need to get to a car wash, I ONLY ever use touchless automated washes.

I use the manual jetwash at the local sainsbury, soft bristles on the head, jet wash them when you jet wash the car before cleaning then jet wash off. 12 mins I can wash the car, £4 total.
I find it difficult being enthusiastic about cleaning cars too, but no way will I use an automatic car wash ever. Doesn't clean as well and as you found out more trouble than it's worth.
I’d never pay to have my paintwork damaged.. better off just not cleaning it if you can’t be bothered
Better yet, use a touchless car wash

Look into super glue and baking powder, theres a few videos on you tube. Ive rebuilt mounting tabs on trims before.

I went in a car wash with a Citroen Saxo and it ripped the spoiler clean off and smashed it through the back window. Had to wait in there until it had finished before I could drive out. Soap was spraying everywhere! Interior was soaked.

@@Showing_the_car_ I was 18 with no glass cover on insurance. They paid £80 which was half. Annoyingly though 5 days after new back window, i put my heated rear on and the window shattered (was icy morning) 🤦♂️. The autoglass guy who came out to my work found it very amusing!

If you hate washing cars you need 2 things, better products and more machines. 🤣 Shame about the wing though, but the end mounts tend to crack anyhow.

Rubbish that they set up equipment and then claim no liability. Was there a sign at all that stated no liability? Was there a contract waiver signed? I feel like they do need to take responsibility for their equipment.
There is a small sign in the petrol station yeh but I think as the damage is very minor and easy to fix il take it on the chin and not waste my time with them

Quite clearly they are liable and also you have proof with your video. You need to speak to Citizens Advice in the first instance. Wonder if BlackBeltBarrister is watching and would care to comment?
@Dave Johnson It shows the brush at the rear stopping and behaving in an erratic manner. OK so maybe you can argue that it does not show the damage being inflicted but there's plenty of evidence here on TH-cam to show that Steve is an honest guy who is most unlikely to make a false accusation against Tesco

I dont use car washes
Anyone who puts a car in a rotary brush car wash deserves all they get. Either do it yourself or go to a hand car wash.

I be honest u being a car guy am very surprised u don’t wash your own car and putting them through those automatic brushes will just scratch and swirl your paint but shocked really
