- I asked my community what features they wanted Discord to put inside of Discord. And let me tell you, some of them are good ideas. But some of them aint it chief.
Anyhoot, here's a list of 20 actually 18 actually 19 Discord concept features that I'm going to charge to Discord's billing department.

Fun fact: Discord actually told you the status of reports made through discord.com/report a couple of weeks ago (dated back to at least March 15th). And it seems like they pushed that feature towards normal in-app reports recently :)

Ngl I’m glad that you read my idea! I’ve been thinking about the option of changing the volume of each individual system sound within Discord since forever tbh, and as such, it would be a great addition (if they ACTUALLY implement it, that is...).

If you're using better discord there is a plugin called NotificationSounds which allows you to do this! You can also insert your own custom sounds if you really want.
custom fonts has so much possibilities on using it, imagine a argument with comic sans font is gotta be so funny

13:09 I work in UX and hold to confirm is a bad way to check if someone has actually read. A more effective way is for the wait time to be automatic. Hold to confirm the user is looking at the button, if they're told to wait, some will still look at the progress but others will look at something more interesting - the text telling them why they shouldn't confirm.
Hold to confirm is only good for avoiding accidental clicks but there are accessibility concerns and so it shouldn't really be used - it's better to have a modal pop up for a second click in another location while also explaining what is going on.
Making the confirm button red is also good, which the suggestion has.
have it show a countdown of 7 seconds upon clicking it, during which u can cancel the request and then you get the best ux
Multiple replies at once would sorta help in support-based Discord servers. So like say you get the same question asked like 3 times by 3 differenet people you can just reply-all so to speak.
(I mean just mentioning each user works too, but this would mean including context to the ping lol)

discord’s current language settings allow us to choose either “english, uk” or “english, us” where we get the 24hr time system by switching to “english, uk” but it also changes the dates to dd/mm/yyyy. so i wish they added two different setting options for time preferences, & date preferences, & it wasn’t just controlled by a mere language setting.
But isn't it basicly a non-issue? I mean, english is english. And it would just break discord if they were trying to give you customizable time settings.
Plus the different times and dates actually kind bound with countries/languages anyways (in most cases the two is basicly the same for this situation).

why this is a good idea is because if something happens in a server (drama for example) and everyone is very curious on what happened then you can reply to the 60 guys asking about who e-cheated on who without having to send the same message to different people everytime or have to ping them after you send a message
it could also help if there is a long slowmode in the channel so you just reply to multiple people at once and divide your message into multiple sections like an essay
there's a potential for flood in here though. Going by that Guilded example, if each reply adds a new line above the message, then replying to 10+ people (not that it happens often, unless done on purpose) greatly inflates the message size, which can disrupt conversations.

Or they make it so that after 3 lines of replies it just says "3 more..." Or something like that and you can click a button or hover over it to see all the messages that were replied to
Replies in discord are already anti flood since if you reply to a long message it just shows the first line of it so discord can easily find solutions like that
@@maiselph7456 Then they could make it be on one line, saying something like "Replying to @yaseenjer, @maiselph7456, @kyuuchat, and 7 others", where clicking on each username would pop it to the message it was replying to, and hovering over the others part would show who else is mentioned, as well as you being able to click on them to see their message too.

Most streaming platforms have built in recording protection to stop/prevent piracy, and any recording software sees the movie/series as just a black screen while you see it perfectly.
The discord share screen is also affected by this.
There is a workaround by disabling hardware acceleration on both the browser and discord but for lower-end systems that just makes the experience so much worse.
So I agree with the suggestion for watch-party activities on discord.
also, when screen sharing, only one person can pause, but in watch-together everyone can pause, good for small parties where everyone is watching it for the first time and someone needs to go afk for a bit
@@Wither_Strike Goes to show how much we need this feature, it will help lessen piracy of movies a bit as well since we will be using actual accounts instead of workarounds or sketchy sites.
I doubt Netflix would allow Discord to implement it though, since they're already cracking down on people who share passwords.

Or you can use a Browser that does not support the recording protection. Like for example Firefox. You can stream everything totally fine if you just just Firefox for streaming.
The concept of "Logging into new device?" window sounds good, they should do like Steam has. It shows you IP and a map of where the IP is logging from, I am sure those weirdos falling for theses scams would surely understand that it's a scam if it's not their location showed in the image of the map... right...?

@@PouLS Yeah Steam do be acting weird sometimes. But I'm sure it could work on Discord. At the end of the day, if you're logging on Discord with credentials instead of QR code on new device, you get an email to authorize new device and so far the IPs and location in the email to approve that login were accurate in my case.
16:22 The appeal will most likely be that it will help servers that are made to help a specific community, for example if 3 different people ask the exact same question, then it will be easier to just reply to all of them at the same time (yes I know you can just ping them in the message but it would still be neat)

YES, the only problem i see in this is if it became a 2/3 boost level feature, which is probably what will happen (if they added it).

Roles already have the problem of being hard to read. I'm certain this would make it worse.

Custom font would be great for accessibility because then people with dyslexia can pick fonts specifically designed for dyslexic people like the dyslexi font.
And Discord has to pay nothing, unlike what NTTS says. The point is to select a local font, and Discord pays nothing for you to use a font on your own.
yesss. as a dyslexic, its incredibly hard for me to read discords font at times! i used to have dyslexic friendly font on my computer but i got scared because someone tried to scare me about using a custom client when i was a kid, and im still kinda wary about it lol, id love the official support

when you say "make a badge that shows who is over 18" its just another way of saying "make a badge that shows who is under 18"
badges on discord are only for aesthetic and identifying discord employees
19 - SUPER usefull for art oriantated discord servers. Just as a SUPER simple example:
You post art, then 3 people underneath say "oo, looks nice" or people giving feedback or something on the art, then you have to reply to one and ping the others to say thanks or respond, or indervisually say thanks/respond after every response, e.t.c.
That's not just it, but that's one of the easiest ways I can explain it being used. Would be incredibly useful!
the only feature i would like is to have the ability to have pings set to off by default on replies, pings are only useful if someone "needs" to be pinged but in a fast moving conversation you need to reply and also on a content creator's server, they don't want to be pinged by 600 people multiple times per minutes totalling at 10000 pings in about 15 minutes. (do the math, it checks out.)

The feature I desperately want is the ability for admins to combine channels
I've surprisingly been hired a few times to basically clean up somebody's servers and for example there will be a lot of unnecessarily split art channels that I would like to combine down to one but typically this means manually downloading all the posts and effectively reposting them to the other channel. Or just sacrificing one of the channels and losing all of the posts there
It would be so nice if I could go to a channel go to its settings and find the option to merge with other channel and then have a dropdown list of the other channels.
When you click merge it effectively does exactly what you think it does it just combines them into one channel with all the posts happening in the order they happened at the time they happened as if they had always been posted there instead of the separate channels
A bit late, but an amazing feature that I've only seen a few people talk about would be the ability to exclude channels/people/file types/anything when searching for messages. This would be so helpful on servers with a bunch of channels. Especially helpful if you're a mod on a server with a bunch of channels and archived channels and you're looking for something specific but don't quite remember which channel that thing was send in originally.

the 18+ would be SUPER good, but not as a badge, instead as a privet thing on your profile. Mainly so you don't have to literally send your ID to some server your join just to verify your age, which can be dangerous. I don't like 18+ content, but I have friends that do, and anytime you wanna join those kinda servers, you always have to send your id.

Discord included the font, that's what costs in the license. But Discord allowing you to download the font and pick it manually costs them nothing.
For example: Windows let you change to any fonts. Microsoft Word, Photoshop, Paint and many other programs let you change to any font. They pay nothing for that. Neither will Discord.
Multi reply is something I 100% wish I had. I mostly talk to irl friends through Discord and in those kinds of conversations usually multiple people ask something answerable with one reply, or you wanna do that one thing where you reply to a message and then add a "!" just to highlight that reply but with multiple replies..

On the note of watching together via sharing screen, black screens from streaming services can often be bypassed by disabling hardware acceleration.
As a person that had to quit discord and now is on guilded because of personal issues.
Multiple replies is so good, I love that feature. I used it constantly in regular conversations where I have multiple people chatting at the same time.
Also love gradients, you can do some cool stuff, people always ask me to make a custom role with x color gradient for them.
Some features that I like to use on guilded and it would be cool to have it on discord is tournament brackets, schedules/calendars, and whisper for voice chats
I've been thinking about this a little, but it would be awesome if we could have status messages that show even when offline.
re 15, I think it would also be useful to have a delete all button for messages sent to a discord server that you are leaving
As someone who plays a lot of "tactical" type games, where you run in squads and companies, it would be great to have a tiered system of voice channels. In other words have voice channels within a larger voice channel. This way you could press one push-to-talk key to talk to your squad, then you could press a different key to talk to people in the other squads. Obviously with all the permissions customizability to determine who can speak in the high level, inter-squad VC.
This is what Teamspeak had and I desperately miss it, but everyone's moved over to discord now so it's just what we have to deal with.

Something I REALLY want is the ability to see closed DMs from people I'm no longer friends with and don't have them blocked. They clearly still exist and the history is still there somewhere, but there's just no way to open them back up. Unless I'm silly and totally missed it.
I'd also like a way to export chat histories without using third-party tools. :') Just for archival purposes.
You still can see their message if you yourself didn't delete them from your DM bar. You just need to not remove them from your DM list, that's all.

I think what would be more useful than replying to multiple people is being able to reply in a different channel. For whenever the discussion inevitably gets off topic and you have to move to the correct channel. A message would also appear in the channel where the post being replied to was with a link to the second channel.
At 16:00, the purpose of that is maybe for larger servers. There's a community server where users ask the same question while mods can explain or respond to their questions with one message. You know, the majority of users in large servers don't read unless they get a reply; they will just keep asking the same question again and again until they get a response.
Edit additional: Or maybe group/nest the reply (like on guilded) to keep on track.

Honestly, I wish there was a badge that says you’re 18+. For the safety of others, it probably would have to be hidden, but then it’d at least be useful if you want your server to be 18+ only.
As someone who does OF, I have a NON explicit sever that will occasionally announce when I post on OF, Twitter and Instagram. We did game nights, movie nights, drank in VC etc.
The problem with it, and which is why I decided to basically let the server die, is because there is no button for an 18+ server, and absolutely no age verification. Obviously I don’t want minors joining, so it’d be helpful if that feature was there.
One of the ideas I have for Discord is the ability to allow individual members to pin text channel messages for themselves only, basically putting messages into favorites, and I think it can be a game changer!
Members could pin spam PSAs, channel messages they like or unread text channel messages shortcuts but sadly, they can't, and only admins can pin messages and they're for everyone to see.
Why can't they have personal pinned messages is beyond me

The Chat Bubble feature is already available on Android, actually. I imagine it isn't available on iPhone, however, as someone brings it up as a feature that they want, and I'm not surprised considering Apple is continuously shooting it's 3rd party apps in the foot with all their garbage API changes.

About the custom ringtones I think it’s completely possible
There are seasonal ringtones for discord (the example is the Halloween one) LIKE that would be so cool and you could know who’s calling you

Custom fonts would be a major upgrade to me, as the sole reason I started using BetterDiscord was that I find GG Sans difficult to read at lower pixel densities.
It's okay in the app and probably would be on higher than 1080p computer screens, but on both my computers I struggle to read the new font.
Which was fully solved with a line of custom CSS, forcing the font to the system monospace font as that's what I thought of trying and immediately liked.
Similarly the low contrast combined with overdone spacing is getting problematic for me, for which I've found a theme that works better for me.
Here the contrast settings of the mobile app help tremendously, to the point where I considered using it on my desktop.

Maybe it shouldn't be a badge though. Like maybe you can still get your age verified, but you don't get a badge for it.

That multiple reply would be extremely handy as admins/mods of a massive server, but it'd definitely have to be a server toggle. The amount of times I've repeated the same information, sometimes with a gap of only 2-3 messages is unbelievable.

And if you can pick a font from the system, it costs Discord nothing. But Discord could have Google Font as a third option as well.
The moment discord adds either gradient or "Use these 2 colors to change every odd and every even numbered letter in my name" it's over for my friends, as in they will never see the end of me using those. Imagine having a white and black name that once again, has one of the letters white, the next one black, and the next one white and so on.
I wish slowmode allowed more than one message. So you can set it to 2 messages and 1 minute, that means at max 2 messages within 60 seconds. If your second to last message was within 60 seconds, you can't send more.
This would make slowmode feel less restrictive but still be efficient.
So are you saying that there should be a way to set that you can send 1 message then wait 60sec and send an another one?
You literally can do that by setting slowmode to 1 minute already.

It would basically be a second slider for the Nth to last message to check, default is 1.
For the delete account = delete messages I feel like if they do allow this they need to be able to allow Discord Servers to opt out of messages being deleted. I run a roleplay server (and so do so many others). If people deleted their messages it would make it extremely difficult to be able to go back and re-read to get information. A LOT of important story parts would simply be gone and would in turn make my life as a DM so much more difficult than it now is.
And the "delete account = delete messages" thing would likely increase the amount of message logger users as well. So there is no point in it.

16:23 As far as I've noticed, it's mostly useful in help channels/servers, where you'd want to touch up on something one person said, while also reacting another message simultaneously.
You can just do a reply to someone, write your reply, leave out one line, ping the other person and after the ping you can write the reply that's addressed to them.
People already using this on servers where there are slowdown mode with lots of people speaking at once.

i would really love a feature that let owners/admins send the same message to several server members, since we have a setup where you can apply a role that gives you dm notifications for events, since server only notifications are very easy to miss
however i get that they probably wont add this out of fear for spam, but i mean, you can still 'spam' server members the same message all you like, its just more tedious and annoying atm
the better third option is havign a better notification system for events, because atm i feel like its super easy to miss them, and if you dont manually remind people of upcoming events, the event itself barely makes an effort to, and its super easy to miss or oversee it, it feels very buried at the moment
The custom ringtones reminded me of my grandpas ring tone haha. It used to be me and my brother saying “its ringing! Grandpa its ringing” so everytime his phone rang it was my brother and i telling him. Sadly he lost the recording so now its a rooster yell
What discord needs is multiple separate ping sounds.
At least separate Ping and DM sounds.
The last one has got to be the best by far... No joke, I would actually use it.
Multireply could be really useful. In my case it for music posting.
Sometimes I posting original, sometimes posting cover. Cover, ofc released after original, so I use reply feature to create a jump link to original. However there could be multiple covers over different months posted, so as of now I chaining reply to latest cover, so you could eventually jump to the first message, but having multireply would help a lot here.
Do note that between original and cover could be passed as short as days and as long as years. So for example I could post a message with reply to other message from 2022.
On the same thread as the slowmode bypass, it would be really nice if they separated out message pinning as well. I'd like to let members be able to pin messages, without having to blindly trust that they won't delete messages from others. If you start moving too quick and you're holding shift to bypass the confirmation popup too, it can be really easy to accidentally misclick the delete button when _going_ to pin, since they put the two buttons you'd hold a key to ignore a popup confirmation for _right next to each other_ for unknown reasons.

16:24 currently the way to "reply" to multiple messages at once is to reply to zero or one of them, then copy the links for the other (and @ them if you want to send them bright flashing lights on their desktop)

Custom ringtones would be fun, but I probably would only use the feature if it could annoy my friends the same way custom entrance sounds do.
For the 18+ badge to get around creeps talking to minors they could also make a feature where if you have the 18+ badge you can't talk to anyone who doesn't have the badge

A feature I want as a base thing is hiding screen share previews. Im aware vencord has it (because I use it) but i hate it when people hover over what I'm doing just to insert themselves into thr conversation or ask 30 questions about stupid stuff.
Also im aware you could use OBS's virtual cam but I like to have audio with my stuff and some appreciations don't really co-operate with game captures.
The "Join servers for you" thing has one use case that I actually rely on it for, but it's just about the only one that I think is even a good one. When a user sends an appeal through my bot and we accept it, sometimes, this user has a deleted account that was also banned from the server. So like they are basically locked out if they don't know how to change their IP and teaching them how to change their IP sounds way worse than just having the bot having a button to force them into the server lol
Another thing I wish Discord would add is sub communities to community servers.
I have a Discord server which I'm trying to setup for several YT channels which cover different communities. eg. Tech, Gaming, Content Creation Education plus another group of channels which cover topics outside of the general genre of those channels.
I don't want to have a server to maintain for each community. Having sub communities with their own invite links and onboarding would be very helpful.
20th suggestion is an actual thing in most social media platformes , example : if ur watching youtube shorts for too long it tells u to take a brake and in facebook they does the same
Better idea for those role permissions, "sub permissions" for example under the Manage Messages permission it would have Pin Messages, Delete Messages, etc.
Now that we have proof that Discord watches these videos, we have a glimmer of hope!

Ight so custom ringtones is literally a mobile feature for any app cuz of it's settings but i wonder if pc has anything like that too
