I rented it right up until the day my local rental place went out of businesses, at which point I bought it from them. :) Great game. The art is what I remember most fondly
40 here! I remember renting this game multiple times and loving it to death! I still get the boss theme stuck in my head after overthinking thirty years! This game was peak movie magic for little me
I agree except for the controls being tight. It is a bit sluggish in some ways, specifically directional changes for attacks. I just finished a playthrough myself not long ago
A very simple, yet very fun game. You remember fun? That strange thing that usted yo be on the games before they were invaded by microtransactions, skin packs, etc.? You know, when the main focus was fun
"I swear to you, Peter, wherever you go, wherever you run, there will be daggers bearing notes signed James Hook! They will be flung at the doors of your children's children's children!"
One of the underrated movie to game translations out there. This is just a quality game all around, especially the soundtrack. I know the Sega CD version has the actual movie score playing during levels, but I kind of prefer the SNES music. I just really love hearing Williams' score played through the SNES chip, which was also a big plus for me with the Super Star Wars trilogy. That, and you don't have the awful voice acting from the Sega CD version.
Wow, this looks so much nicer than the Genesis and Sega CD versions! I love the added arcadey touches, like bosses blinking when you hit them. The gameplay seems a tad faster, too, which is welcome--the Genesis one is unbearably floaty.
Hook is multilayered, smoothly scrolling visuals inspire comparisons to Super NES legends, such as Enix’s ActRaiser and Konami Super Castlevania IV. The music is so good.
Thanks a lot for the review in the description, I've really wondered about this one for a long time. I heard it was made by some of the same team as Skyblazer, which is amazing, but it always looked a bit easy in playthroughs. Not every game needs to be extremely difficult to be good, though
As a 7-year old kid when this came out, this game was NOT the least bit easy. Haha! Granted, this gamer blows through it like a blowtorch through butter, but for all us kiddos back in the early 90s whose' fingers didn't quite cooperate w/ our brains yet, this game was mad hard. Well, for me it was😏
Killer memories playing this is a youngster, it has the feel of Zelda mixed with Donkey Kong and a touch of Sonic the Hedgehog. Awesome play through thanks!
the first level of the game Peter completes his training next he challenges Rufio to see who would be the Pan after that he gets his sword and then...the real adventure begins
La verdad nunca fui muy fan de Peter pan incluso nunca supe de este juego hasta que lo jugué en un emulador de snes y Woow me impresionó bastante un juego excelente
Robin Williams is Peter Pan!! HOOK, HOOK, HOOK...PAN PAN PAN!!! What a visually appealing game, and definitely a well-made gem of a licensed movie game to boot. I especially enjoy the flying mechanic as well.
Omg I miss this😭😭😭😭 I had to look it up because I saw on PrimeVideo, the Hook movie and it reminded me of this game. I love this game. *sigh* childhood memories 😞❤️
Console Wars should do a video of this game, now that it’s 30 years old. The SNES version would win, hands down, but it would still be fun to compare the two games.
Most games from that era can be beat in under an hour or 2 if you're good. The only reason they lasted so long was because of the difficulty and having to play the game over and over again to master it.
35:26 that face is the thing i most remember from this game. When i have a snes, i got like 4 cartridges that i sell to get another game, and i almost forgot that this is one of those games that pass throught my hands
It’s funny the first two or three levels are insanely nostalgic for me but the rest isn’t. I clearly did not get far in this game but god I must have played those first levels a million times.
i knew it was this game! I kept humming the bgm song for years now. Not remembering what game i played when i was still a kid. Glad i found it now. Tqtqtqtq😂🎉
Can you imagine if Hook actually had a retractable hook to attack Peter in the movie? That would have been even more lethal! Love the music for the movie/game! My only critique is every time it loads the next level, it does the same pan around the whole island, wish it was something you could manually control yourself before pressing A to continue, ya know?
Just got the SNES and Genesis versions in the mail from Ebay yesterday, both have some shoddy control, yet the game is still fun, but the controls make the game a little harder than it should be.
The Genesis version doesn't have a unique theme to the final Hook battle either, it just reuses the same boss theme found on every boss in the game, this SNES version, Hook has an excellent theme for his penultimate battle.
noticed some similarities and did some digging: this was developed by the same company that made skyblazer! it really looks like the same exact engine, too, with the flying stages and floaty jump mechanics. no wonder this game is pretty good.
Yeah, they are similar in a lot of ways. I dunno if you saw, but i usually give a write up about the games i play in the description. I talked about its developer there :)
I remember playing this game when I was a child after I had rented it. However my memory was playing as regular non-Pan Peter for a chunk of the game before I was able to transform into actual Peter Pan. Did I play something else?
how do you do it for Peter to fly faster? i am not playing in a console but in an online game. Thanks for the video. with which button do you run? please
I never liked the movie (I don’t know why but I hated some of the main actors, I was supporting the villains), but I definitely loved this amazing game
Hook: If you want to save Wendy, John, Michael, and the lost boys, solve my maze Peter Pan: there no time to waste lets go tink. fly through rings around the island with limited time. ha ha ha ha Hook wins.
I'm going crazy. I swear one of the instruments during the intro cutscene is sampled in Saliva by Viktor Vaughn (MF Doom) th-cam.com/video/ylWr1I1FfJ4/w-d-xo.html At the 44 second mark you can lightly hear the sound. I know he used obscure samples but this would be too much.
The graphics, the music, and the flying mechanics make Hook one of my favorite platformers on the SNES. I rented this one sooo much back in the day!
...
Set fire to your SNES? I assume you played toys, right?
You play the arcade version yet?
As did I. Truly a remarkable classic!
I rented it right up until the day my local rental place went out of businesses, at which point I bought it from them. :) Great game. The art is what I remember most fondly
Oh this game.......
I loved this game. I'm now almost 37 years old and it was a pleasure to watch this gameplay. So many memories❤
Same my friend, 36 here
40 here! I remember renting this game multiple times and loving it to death! I still get the boss theme stuck in my head after overthinking thirty years! This game was peak movie magic for little me
I am 30 years old. The nostalgia that watching this brought me was insane.
Same I’m 30 too and watching this brought me back to a better time
too
You guys weren't even born when this came out
I swear ❤
@@paulerlingheuser8453 im 35 . .this was my shit
Such a beautiful amazing game. The graphics and the music are enjoyable, and it controls tight. And plays great.
I agree except for the controls being tight. It is a bit sluggish in some ways, specifically directional changes for attacks. I just finished a playthrough myself not long ago
This is game brings me one of the fondest memories ever from my teenage years! thanks for sharing!
This game was underrated. I enjoyed it back then, and I can still enjoy it now
I know. Crappy games wiki must really be on crack to think this version of the game is bad.
@@ElephantMariotheRHDNhater3293 The NES version was a little worse. The super Nintendo one was a little bit of an improvement.
@@CalvaryJustice.1020 indeed
I agree, I had fun playing this game and I really enjoyed the music.
Rest in Peace Robin Williams.
A very simple, yet very fun game. You remember fun? That strange thing that usted yo be on the games before they were invaded by microtransactions, skin packs, etc.? You know, when the main focus was fun
its amazing how watching videos like these can take you right back to childhood.
Wow, 7 minutes in and the game has already gotten through the first hour and twenty minutes of the movie!
I played this game so many times when i was a kid, amazing game it was definitely one of my top 10…so many good memories
Whoa!!! Haven't seen this since the early 90s! Great memories of a simpler time💜
That game came out last year.
Bought this as a gag gift for a friend a couple years ago and actually thought it was pretty awesome!
That soundtrack makes me goosebumps, amazing
Man the early 90s was the best! castlvania, battle toads, double dragon, musket ninjas, i can go on and on..
Dont forget turtles in time!
18:57 And he finally hover-refills. Props to you for holding on to the Golden Sword for 8 or so stages.
I forgot how great this game was. Gonna have to revisit this one. Nice playthrough
"I swear to you, Peter, wherever you go, wherever you run, there will be daggers bearing notes signed James Hook! They will be flung at the doors of your children's children's children!"
"What do you want old man?"
"Just you, Peter. Just you."
You've got me, James Hook. Pan the Avenger is back.
"And the Hook is waiting."
Why are all of you so amazing??
Gracias por llevarme de nuevo a mi infancia , cuándo los gráficos no importaban y el logro que teníamos al terminar cada juego era personal
Man this game… the music…. I don’t think I ever beat the whole game. Def played this a lot during my childhood
The music was amazing. I love this game. It has a special place in my heart.
This game looks so much fun, I would’ve love to have a game like this at my grandmother’s house when I was a kid

I used to repeatedly rent this game, and finished it numerous times. My sister and I also loved the movie.
Danh, that's an epic version of the movie theme!

Ahh man! I was just setting here looking up videos and this game popped into my head. Man I love this game
One of the best snes games for its day.
A remake of this game would kill!
This game was amazing!! I remember it as one of the best gameplay experiences of that particular time!
Que de bons souvenirs. J’adorais ce jeu enfant. Merci ☺️
My childhood...
Total nostalgia
Very beautiful game.
When I was a kid I saw my cousin play it and thought it was amazing! I still do!
Loved this game, mad short games were back then
This game was so cool!!! I rented it back at my old Albertsons (that sadly shut down in 2010) around 2000. So colorful and the music bleeds SNES.
Killer memories playing this is a youngster, it has the feel of Zelda mixed with Donkey Kong and a touch of Sonic the Hedgehog. Awesome play through thanks!
Love this game. Thankfully its very underrated so its not as expensive like others in recent years.
Oh it's getting there, I paid under $20 for a Genesis copy, my SNES copy ran me close to $35 cart only.
The art style of this game reminds me Back to the future on SNES that was released only in Japan.
Just like the movie with a bittersweet ending to the Peter Pan story
Oh my goodness we use to play this game back in the day..our dad was a pro. This was way before Wii or Xbox PS . Fond memories 😂
Why the camera has to scroll around the map EVERY TIME you start a stage is beyond me, like you are going to forget where you are?
cause youre with the lost boys and they are always lost ...and can't look across the river to see a boat lol
the first level of the game Peter completes his training next he challenges Rufio to see who would be the Pan after that he gets his sword and then...the real adventure begins
gotta love the way adult peter pan flies
La verdad nunca fui muy fan de Peter pan incluso nunca supe de este juego hasta que lo jugué en un emulador de snes y Woow me impresionó bastante un juego excelente

Wow when I saw 39 mins I thought this was the first level or 2..i'm impressed
The ice and flame cave levels used to whoop me as a kid. And those pistol shooters and sword throwers on the ship
Most games from that era can be beat in under an hour or 2 if you're good. The only reason they lasted so long was because of the difficulty and having to play the game over and over again to master it.

Game of my childhood

you can skip the map screen early. for some reason this person didn’t.

I loved this game. But it was just too easy. Which being little I didn’t know. But now older. Definitely see the easiness in it.

Half the game is waiting for the level map screen to get done scrolling. The snow level music seriously sounds like it could be a Fleetwood Mac song.
BANGARANG!
Wah wah wah wah.... szzzz chika chika chika... szzzz bzzzz wah wah wah wah wah. Yeah, reminds me of Hook.
Waaaay better than the Nes version.
This game was hard as fuck and you made it look fucking easy! 😳

All Nintendo has to do is “remaster it, sound & graphics. Then it would definitely sell on Nintendo Online Shop
Hook: If you want to save Wendy, John, Michael, and the lost boys, solve my maze
Peter Pan: there no time to waste lets go tink.
fly through rings around the island with limited time.
