    Seriously, the "like my father before me" line is one of, for me, the most emotionally powerful moments in SW, as well as in any movie. It shows Luke's forgiveness for his father as well as the pride and respect he has in his father's accomplishments before turning.

    This scene is amazing... Vader using Anakin's need to protect his friends on Luke, because he sees they're the same, and then Luke realizing the same thing as he looks at his hand... that he's making the same bad choices his father did... and then, his line "I am a Jedi, like my father before me," because Luke realizes that Vader can make the same choice he just did... he throws the lightsaber away, because the next choice isn't his. It's Vader's. Just great writing.

      This scene is amazing for woke millennials who don't know any better. The Rise of Skywalker is a woke mess. The story should've ended with Return of the Jedi, not continue with some woke mess that disregards Luke's sacrifice and Vader's sacrifice.

  • @The_Texorcist

    I love this moment, the music really compliments the scene so well. This isn't Luke taking it to Vader like a badass... its Luke giving into his hate, his anger and thus slipping to the darkside. It's not a victorious moment but a tragic one.
    As much as I crap on the prequels I love Revenge of the Sith the most because the reason for Anakin's fall is the same as Luke's close call... its the fear of losing someone you care for.
    That's the thing i love about the first six star wars films. There is this constant struggle as to if Love and Attachment a good thing or bad thing, sure the fear of loss of a loved one was Anakin's fall and almost Luke's BUT on the flipside it was Luke's love for his father that helped Vader realise this love for his son and that motivated him to save Luke.

    • @PinkRoses19-k1q
      @PinkRoses19-k1q 24 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I think the idea is that there is a difference between Love and Attachment, well what they meant by ‘Attachment’ in Star Wars we would call Possessiveness, it’s that obsessive need to cling to someone or something, and it can be self destructive in the end…Anakins love for Padmé became possessive and it destroyed them both. Whereas Love in it’s pure form is selfless, and love means letting go as the old saying goes…‘if you love someone let them go’ and Luke’s selfless love for his father saved Anakin.
      So Love is good, Possessiveness is bad, where the Jedi went wrong is they tried to basically throw the baby out with the bath water. Instead of teaching their students how to love and have relationships in a healthy way, they instead tried to cut themselves off from emotion entirely and it backfired on them, because emotion is part of being human, and to repress it to such an extent let’s it become destructive.
      That’s how I see it anyway.

    • @The_Texorcist
      @The_Texorcist 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@PinkRoses19-k1q Exactly! If you look at stories from the now non canon legends ancient Jedi were not required to have no relationships, instead they allowed relationships like in the case of the Sunriders. They encouraged healthy relationships where they both would learn and teach each other. So that the bond they shared was both in love and the force.
      To me when the Jedi outlawed romantic relationships they set themselves up for a fall. It’s like any family that has strict upbringings, you are gonna have the occasional kid who wants to “rebel” in the sense of the word, to taste of the forbidden fruit. Because it’s not allowed tough they do so in secret. In Anakin’s case had the relationship been allowed to be public he wouldn’t have needed to vent to Palpatine about his visions of Padme dying, he could have gone to the council or obi-wan. They would have been able to tell him that the future is not set in stone and the vision was one of many possible outcomes.
      Heck if it wasn’t the Jedi also making it to where children are taken from families and raised by the order perhaps they could have gone back and paid to get shimi out of her debt to wato which would have prevented her eventual tragic death which set the ball rolling on anakin’s turn to the dark side.
      So in reality had it not been for the order and their rules who knows if the republic would have fallen and the order wiped out.

    Luke swinging wildly with the chaotic score in the background gives me chills every time. If I’m not mistaken, we never hear this music again. Which leads me to believe it’s Dark Side Luke’s theme?

    • @MGower4465
      @MGower4465 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      No. Luke is not going to the dark side at all. He attacks, yes, but not from hate or rage. He attacks to prevent the threat to Leia. Luke knows how he hurt finding his aunt and uncle murdered, but Leia had to watch not just her family, but her entire world obliterated in front of her. Her emotional wounds are way deeper than his, and she is much more at risk. And Leia has not been taught about the Force, let alone how to recognize the dark side.
      The proof is Luke pulls back from the killing stroke against Vader before Palpatine starts to cackle. If he had crossed,, he would have finished off his rival. The dark side does not have room for feelings of loyalty or love. Only rage and ambition.

    If Leia was taught to be a Sith from Vader, she would have been the most powerful Sith to ever be in the living Force. Even more feared than Sidious and Vader put together. Luke sensed that, and his fear of that made him lash out the way he did. He didn't want that to happen to her.

      You're making some very interesting leaps there. Nothing in this saga suggests any of what you're supposing - it's purely something that you manufactured. Luke didn't lash out because he sensed that Leia would be "the most powerful Sith" - he was protecting her from ever being subjected to or used by Vader or the dark side, period.

    Luke confronts Vader. Not a Jedi yet.
    Luke defends himself from Vader. Not a Jedi yet.
    Luke defeats Vader. Not a Jedi yet.
    Luke, in full view of Palpatine, defies evil, let's his father live, and tells the Emperor he failed to turn him to the Dark Side of the Force, countering vengeance and greed with mercy and compassion.
    In that moment ... he became a full Jedi Knight, confronted with evil....and defeating it.

Choice! Also, Luke standing up to the emperor showed Anakin...he can too. He has the strength to do it he just never realized it.

    As another comment stated a theory that Darth Vader started to have second thoughts about being on the Dark Side of the Force since Empire Strikes Back. Then, in this episode, he baited Luke to strike him (I think that both of them linked their minds) as Luke thinking about Leia. Even though Luke gotten very angry with his father, I don't think Luke don't want to kill his father because he would Palpatine's puppet. That's why he struck Darth's hand holding the saber and seeing robotic prosthetic arm (remember that Palpatine had his medical droids added all robotic prosthetic arms (hands) and legs.

    I kinda laugh when all these reactors say "what! Leia would have less of a chance of turning to the Dark side" NOT true, while Luke looks like Anakin when he was younger and Leia looks very much like their mother Padme, LUKE has the personality and heart like Padme and LEIA has that fiery spirit and sometimes emotional volatility like her father. While everyone, even the most committed Jedi have some of the Dark side in them, Leia was more likely to turn to the Dark side than Luke. That is talked about in the EU novels. Granted it would take a lot and a very specific circumstance for Leia to be tempted, if you compare Luke's chances of being turned to Leia's, she would turn before Luke would
