I was "Hanging On" to every single word you said on this reaction. They way you react to every single song is how I still react to them all these years later. The sound, production, atmosphere, voice on this album NEVER gets old. My favorite is My Blood...the way she performs it live with such passion breathes more life into the song
Yaaas her love performances are where it's at...their music draws me in, but when an artist is truly talented and able to perform their songs live just as well if not better than the album then I'm a fan for life, and Ellie is absolutely one of those people she is hands down my favorite person to see live of all time!
This is definitely one of my favourite albums of all time, definitely deserves more recognition. It's sad she's known for songs like Burn & Love Me Like You Do with songs like Figure 8, My Blood, Dead in the Water etc.
Not that those songs r necessarily bad, I like Burn, but she's wrote hundreds of songs and the two that blow up r the two she didn't write like really..
It sucks that the song which is not written by Ellie Goulding and no way related to her life is her most successful song ! Yeah,you're right Halcyon Days has that trademark EDM sound of Ellie, with that typical Björkish influence. That's why Ellie is considered as one of the best female EDM vocalists !
OMG I waited so long for this, I'm so happy you reacted to probably my favorite album of all time! I think you need to check the three songs of the Deluxe Edition: In My City, Without Your Love and Ritual (personally I think this last one is one of her best songs) and even you can listen to The Ending, this one song is not available on streaming plataforms 'cause it was just included on a special box set of Halcyon, but you can find it on TH-cam. I don’t think Brightest Blue sounds anything like Halcyon. Lyrically it’s good but the production is a bit boring compared to her other work. There’s also a lot of short, pointless, filler tracks. I seriously miss old Ellie so much.

She was actually the first artist to get 2 albums with 1B plays on Spotify with Halcyon Days and Delirium. But she took a long break between her 3rd and 4th album and her latest, Brightest Blue, didn't get that much attention.

In Delirium it is mainstream Pop produced by such big names like Max Martin,Greg Kurstin ...., it was her least personal album and still now she regrets about it ! "I knew in my bones it wasn’t right. I remember playing it to my family and friends: Skip it, hate this one.,.....not an Ellie Goulding record.” After a 2 year world tour,she was struggling with various physical & mental health issues ,so she went off for a 5 year hiatus. But fortunately recovered and did the Brightest Blue which is lyrically still now HER BEST projecting the proper strength & rationality of a matured woman but sonically quite experimental and a mix of R&B,Pop,Classical.

all of my favourite songs off this album are in my favourite movie, divergent. they really staked her album into that movie. my favourites are dead in the water, my blood (which is not in the movie), figure 8 (i’m pretty sure this song is in divergent very briefly), hanging on, and beating heart (not on the album but it’s good 😌).

I know I’m late but, you need to react to her FIRST album LIGHTS. This is her second. While Halcyon is her Magnum Opus, Lights does not pale in comparison. If Halcyon is an 8.7, then Lights would be a 8.2. Please, indulge yourself and thank me later, if it’s not too late. Also check out the deluxe version of Halcyon, and Halcyon Nights. Ellie was among the pop girls in 2013-16,she was extremely close friends with Taylor Swift & Katy Perry both (also featured in Taylor's Bad Blood video), also Rihanna knew her well. Those days her career was based on US . The thing happened is during her third album Delirium she got pushed in a "wrong direction" by her label, she got converted into a conventional popstar singing songs written by producers from an organic Folktronica artist. She felt uncomfortable wearing provocative outfits & all other glittery things in her huge Delirium World Tour. From the begining of her public fame ,she started to struggle with serious panic attacks & a mental condition called Imposter syndrome. Alongwith these, being in the peak of public fame the media tabloids constantly tried to make her relationship rumors a magazine gossip thing (kinda Taylor Swift's Reputation era). Of that Ed Sheeran rumor got turned into a big thing by news tabloids. (Ed Sheeran himself regretted that the relationship rumor was blown out of proportion by saying, “What happened was one of the newspapers in England just printed that it was confirmed when it never was. We got in touch, and they took the story down. But obviously the damage [to Ellie] had already been done by that point because every other newspaper picked up on it. So I never actually confirmed it.”) And after that huge mess Ellie's mental health issues worsened making her to have daily psychotherapy sessions for continuous two years ! Joy wasn't one of my favorites when I first discover this album back in 2012, but I rediscovered it last year and it became my favorite song from Halcyon (besides Dead in the water)

all of my favourite songs off this album are in my favourite movie, divergent. they really staked her album into that movie. my favourites are dead in the water, my blood (which is not in the movie), figure 8 (i’m pretty sure this song is in divergent very briefly), hanging on, and beating heart (not on the album but it’s good 😌).

I know I’m late but, you need to react to her FIRST album LIGHTS. This is her second. While Halcyon is her Magnum Opus, Lights does not pale in comparison. If Halcyon is an 8.7, then Lights would be a 8.2. Please, indulge yourself and thank me later, if it’s not too late. Also check out the deluxe version of Halcyon, and Halcyon Nights. There are still lots and lots of tracks to discover.

No,the whole thing is being wrongly interpreted here. Ellie was among the pop girls in 2013-16,she was extremely close friends with Taylor Swift & Katy Perry both (also featured in Taylor's Bad Blood video), also Rihanna knew her well. Those days her career was based on US . The thing happened is during her third album Delirium she got pushed in a "wrong direction" by her label, she got converted into a conventional popstar singing songs written by producers from an organic Folktronica artist. She felt uncomfortable wearing provocative outfits & all other glittery things in her huge Delirium World Tour. From the begining of her public fame ,she started to struggle with serious panic attacks & a mental condition called Imposter syndrome.
Alongwith these, being in the peak of public fame the media tabloids constantly tried to make her relationship rumors a magazine gossip thing (kinda Taylor Swift's Reputation era). Of that Ed Sheeran rumor got turned into a big thing by news tabloids. (Ed Sheeran himself regretted that the relationship rumor was blown out of proportion by saying, “What happened was one of the newspapers in England just printed that it was confirmed when it never was. We got in touch, and they took the story down. But obviously the damage [to Ellie] had already been done by that point because every other newspaper picked up on it. So I never actually confirmed it.”) And after that huge mess Ellie's mental health issues worsened making her to have daily psychotherapy sessions for continuous two years ! (But they both are good friends now, Ed even attended Ellie's wedding with his wife. Also recently Ellie & her husband was seen happily talking to Ed & his wife in the UEFA Football match in London.)
After those years, in 2016 she went to a non stop World Tour from NYC to London to Sydney to Toronto to Bejing to Moscow to Seoul, Tokyo everywhere filling up the arenas, Isn't that a huge global popularity? So her body couldn't catch up with the busy schedule and got heavily exhausted , the medics advised her to take a break ( also she discovered a heart valve condition in that time). At that point she even thought to leave the music scene !! That's why after her chaotic lifestyle she took a hiatus (or pause) for five year maintaining a semi anonymous life releasing music on/off, focusing more on her charity works and emerging as a climate activist. She went to different UN missions with scientists in the poles & the savanas of Africa.
She was honored an UN Global Goodwill Ambassador & was given the Global Leadership Award by UN for her environment & social justice activism. ACTUALLY IN THIS TIME HER POPULARITY SHARPLY DROPPED DUE TO HER LOW KEY EXISTENCE in the music scene & made her audience to divert into other new gen singers. But the MAIN THING is when she returned with her critically acclaimed album Brightest Blue exploring Ellie as a songwriter & a human being HER LABEL GAVE ZERO PROMO & was dissatisfied with her sad songs. In short her label decided to stop promoting her when she refused to make songs on their will.
And in terms of her accolades,she got quite huge success -
1) She held the record of highest entries in Billboard Hot100 by any British Female Artist this century. (this year Dua Lipa broke her record)
2) She was the first female artist to have two album with 1 Billion streams in Spotify.
3) She has three Platinum Certified albums & 11 Multi Platinum singles in US.
4) She has probably the highest no. of BRIT Award Nominations as a female artist with 11 noms.
5) She performed twice for Prince William & Princess Kate,for the US Prez Obama & recently for the US Prez Biden. Also the 2015 Official Grammy Performance.
5) 12M+ subscribers in TH-cam & 25M monthly listeners in Spotify.
