She's really underrated. I agree this album might have some skips though, but transitioning from Halcyon's dark vibes to this it shows she has a lot of versatility that no one credits.
Yes she is super versatile , Lights was a Folk-EDM with some Björkish doping then Halcyon which is pure,raw,melancholic vocals with an EDM touch. Then pure moving into mainstream Pop Delirium, and now R&B,Folk,EDM Brightest Blue!! She possess the extraordinary ability to use her vocals in every genres.
I met Ellie Goulding through this album. So it’ll always hold a special place in my heart cause me and a few other goulddiggers got to listen to the album 2 month before it’s release.
I have genuinely always thought of this album as pure POP perfection cause that’s exactly what she intended! I also think it’s such an underrated album in the sense that there’s so much potential for it being the perfect commercially popular pop album. She’ll always be true to herself, while also showcasing just how versatile she is all at the same time. I highly recommend Halcyon Days or Halcyon (Deluxe Version) !

Mainstream pop is not her genre and Delirium is that album of which Ellie herself is not proud of and often revealed in interviews that she "hated" several songs of it because of those cheap quality lyrics (not written by Ellie) , also this album is thought to be one of the causes of her five year long Imposter syndrome or depression . Maybe Delirium kinda albums are more appealing to the mass audience but not for singers like Ellie Goulding. Yes I agree with you - "She'll always be true to herself while also......" . But I think pop is not her genre, she grew listening to Björk, Joni Mitchell,Nirvana that's why she was made for Folktronica,EDM,Classical and R&B.

However, it didn't happen and she collabed with serpentwithfeet instead. It's also interesting to note that both Ellie and The Weeknd got a huge hit from the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack: Ellie with "Love Me Like You Do" and Abel with "Earned It".
