"Where are we going?" Charles asked, flabbergasted. Me, thinking back to the era of squinting at low-poly escalators to figure out which was which: the song is perfect, isn't it?
I absolutely love when Charles explores a song I know extremely well and he pauses right before some crazy key change and I'm just kept waiting for him to discover it and pop off like crazy lmao
@@Dreded100I have no idea what your talking about. Yes double dash is awesome, and we should return to it. By definition I hate reaction videos. But man, I love Charles' energy, enthusiasm and love for music. I am a person who knows next to nothing about music. Watching his reactions is awesome.
Coconut Mall truly is a certified classic at this point, but I honestly don't think it's Mario Kart Wii's best offering. That honor goes to Wii Rainbow Road. I would love to see a breakdown on it. Every Rainbow Road is special, but Wii's is the only one that I would say feels truly cosmic.
Ahh, Mario Kart Wii, what an OST for the ages. Mario Kart, New Super Mario Bros, and Galaxy 1&2 especially hold dear spots in my heart for how enjoyable they are as a whole. Absolutely love this stuff.
There is nothing more fun than hearing Charles go “Whoa-ho-ho-ha-ha!” and watching him just rock out/head bang/throw his hands around when he gets excited 😂 This is channel is so pure
I do appreciate channels like 8 Bit Music Theory who do really intelligent yet interesting breakdowns of video game music theory, but this channel provides a really neat contrast by combining the knowledge of music theory with the surprise and joy of discovering that music in real time
This song is *perfect* for the stage it plays on. The absolute chaos expected of racing through a tropical mall, especially one in the Mario setting. It's completely all over the place and it's just beautifully catchy because of it
This reminds me of how much I appreciate not just Mario Kart music as a whole, but also Mario Kart 8's music. The band always does a brand new cover of the song. Sometimes faithful, sometimes drastically changed! Sometimes big band, sometimes metal- lol. And I love what that band did with Coconut Mall: keep it super faithful, but all with live players
Hey Charles, happy to get coconut malled today! quite literally anything else from the soundtrack deserves a listen but maple treeway, toads factory and moon view highway should definitely be next
Great to see you showcasing NINTENDO's music. A part of the appeal of Nintendo games and why they still so relevant today has always been the amazing soundtracks.
Would love to see Gusty Garden Galaxy from Super Mario Galaxy. It's pretty widely considered a masterpiece for the franchise. Or really anything from Mario galaxy, honestly
Coconut mall is a great example of telling a story with music. The intro starts inside an elevator, it's building up as the elevator moves toward its destination, then goes quiet for the DING as the elevator arrives, and the doors open with a burst of energy as you're power walking through the mall. Then you arrive at the B section where the energy drops and instead of confident cords we've got more hesitant pensive chords, like you're browsing clothes in a store and thinking about what you want, before you're into a C section with singing melodies as you try on the different clothes and pose in the mirror. Then you transition to the beginning as you pay for your new clothes and have them bagged, including some brief dissonance from the sticker shock, but the excitement of the mall soon overcomes that and we're back to the energetic power walking A section as we go to the next store.

Watching the footage of Mario stunting out of the mall with the high not of the song just gave me goosebumps! Such a nostalgic track, its crazy F to everybody that hasn't played MK Wii in their childhood
The entire soundtrack of Mario Kart 8 is like this. VERY good arrangements and they JUST added more tracks so the "deluxe" version of mario Kart 8 on the switch is up to... 96 tracks I think?
