If Hurricane Milton didn't happen, I don't think people would realize how bad the Rays are in making clear decisions and rely on others to do the work for them. Since this mess happened, I always had a feeling the Rays are trying to get out of the new ballpark deal but won't specially say they are and want St. Petersburg to take the fall in order to be seen as the good guy and tell their fans "Well we tried but St. Petersburg said no".
Counties and taxpayers need to stop supporting multi-billion dollar franchises. Why do they deserve millions or billions of tax dollars? The city does not get that much of an economic boost. $1-2M in "rent" for 20-30 years isn't enough to cover the millions and sometimes billions that get shelled out. Time to stop funding billionaires.
I worked on infrastructure projects for both the Trop and Ybor City sites. The ballpark concept was basically the same in both. Makes sense because they didn't know which site would be approved. So, the ballpark doesn't need much tweaking. The "Stadium District" concepts would vary based upon the available land parcels and overall scope of the other uses - hotels, restaurants, offices, residences, etc.
as a Phillies and MLB fan i just want the Teams to all get home where no problems are so MLB can finally expand the way MLB is going i say now not to 2040 or later
Thanks for the video update Brodie, I look forward to hearing about the outcome tomorrow! And did you hear that St. Petersburg is starting to allocate money to start the fixing process of the Tropicana roof?? I honestly hope they fix the Trop roof so the Rays can move back there and have a home again; Since they have no home right now. They can't play in a minor league park outside for many years in that weather! Maybe they can then use the Trop as an interim stadium from 2026-2029 or even until 2030, until they get their new one built! That's my thought anyway... Have a good night! ;)
The Hillsborough deal fell through when the Rays proposed the 2nd most expensive baseball stadium at the time. There was little appetite to publicly fund it.
Personally I am of the opinion that the rays should leave Tampa have a fresh start the state of florida is not the best choice for a new stadium ( it has not been a good market for baseball mainly because of attendance ),even if the county approves in the future they would get a booom for a new stadium that would fade very fast as happened with their current stadium I personally would prefer a rebranding go to Oregon and become Portland Navigators and test a new market they could explode when a future expansion comes with its respective realignment geography.

@@plangineer1375 Okay. Truth be told I don't have a dog in the hunt so I'll take your word on it. I do know the current location sucks and building a new stadium there always struck me as a bad idea.
I think 90%+ of Rays fans would prefer the team move to Tampa but will settle for the team staying in St. Pete. better than the alternative of Orlando, Nashville, Charlotte, Montreal, Utah, Portland, etc.
I predict that all of the public funding for the new stadium will fall through and that the Rays will be shocked by the lack of generous offers from other cities.
What happened with Hillsborough County is that the County wanted the Rays to pay more than what St Pete was asking, but the money is there and they are waiting to see what happens. If anybody asks about where they are going to get the money from, Hillsborough voters just renewed the same tax that built Raymond James Stadium in November. Also, that harbor you mentioned, is a run down shipyard, but it could be cleaned up and fixed for future use.
If an environmental study on the shipyard is required, it could be a while before anything happens. Past experience with such industrial sites are that the cleanup could be very involved and expensive. Anyone investing in such a site is going to want assurances they aren't on the hook for unforeseen financial consequences -- assuming they can get outside financing for such a potentially problematic site.
Also should further clarify, I listened to the county’s last meeting and the chair commissioner has said none of the money is coming from local tax payers it’s coming from tourist bed taxes. The news tendency to pick just latvalas statement shows how the news is trying to paint this in a negative light. The chair commissioner Kathleen peters and latvala went into a back and forth about disagreeing about the deal and it just wasn’t professional from latvalas side. All county commissioners agree that they should get a statement on getting a list of obligations that the rays need to meet. Latvala was also strung up on the team getting real estate in a city that he as a county commissioner has no control over. A lot of petty stuff going on. If the livestream is still uploaded to TH-cam I’ll send it into here

What's the definition of canceling the deal? Is it considered canceled if the vote is no tomorrow? Or does a no vote mean that the Rays can still build the ballpark on their own dime and retain the 65 acres but if they don't, they forfeit the land?
Tampa is the 17 th largest market in the country. MLB isn’t leaving. Let them pay for the stadium. If the people want to pay for a new stadium just use all the money you made off the last stadium over the last 30 years
Your facts are not right. The Ybor deal fell flat in 2018. Also, the Rays did make a definite commitment to St. Petersburg originally with the “Here To Stay” press conference last year, having worked for a year on the Gas Plant site and affirmative votes by both the City and County to support the project. If this falls apart, it’s all on the narrow tunnel vision of Pinellas County.
How many times are you going to cover this topic? You've already stated that if the county doesn't approve the project then the Rays will keep the real prize within the deal, i.e., the ownership to the land in downtown, so you know good and damn well that the county isn't giving away the revenue from owning a multimillion/billion dollar piece of land. You can only beat a dead horse so much.
He’s hoping it fail so it gives Oakland a chance to get the team or think they’ll have someone to trauma bond with… and to think we felt sad and supported them when they lost their team. Go John Fisher and 🖕🏾 Oakland!
Rays ownership is stupid. Tampa/St Pete leaders are stupid. The Rays need to relocate. Orlando is the answer! The Orlando Rays OR The Orlando Dreamers!
@@GDavis49 not a chance MLB leaves the 10 million people and growing megapolis in central Florida. Nashville and Charlotte are out. Portland is a no. @@GDavis49 honestly, that is a good point. I don’t know why Miami doesn’t support the Marlins. In Florida, there are far too many entertainment options than to pay attention to baseball. But still. Living in Vegas, I don't think we are going to get the A's... The Tropicana in itself is quite small, with little or no parking... Im also not convinced that John Fisher has enough money for it..
The best option has always been on the Tampa side in Ybor City. my understanding is that mayor Jane Castor doesn't want to spend city money on this stadium. Rays need to just kill the deal, forget St Pete and concentrate in Tampa.+
SALUTE Look I am a Giants fan tho as I am reading the comments and I am noticing that it is CLEAR that Tampa Bay Rays fans are the smartest and most passionate of ALL the small market teams. Maybe even including Japan !!! And now thanks to y'all I am even considering getting MLB Extra Innings so I can be part of it !!!! #tampabaygiants
Regardless of whether the Rays stay in St Pete or move to Tampa / elsewhere, I think the temporary home at Charles Schwab Field (24,000 capacity) in Omaha for a few years starting in 2026 on would be a good idea. If a fully-financed ballpark can be agreed upon in Tampa and construction starts, I don't think MLB fans in that city will care all that much re. the team playing in a distant city while the ballpark is being built. Omaha would be a great place to play spring-to-fall baseball re. weather. I think the Rays could share the facility with the AAA Storm Chasers (Rays on the road while Storm Chasers are at home). Rays would obviously pay rent plus some extra to the Chasers given they'll be inconveniencing the team (which is the AAA Affiliate of the Royals), but I think this would be the best idea out of a bunch of not-very-attractive options....
Brodie covered this in earlier episodes. It was covered up to $25 million, but the initial repair estimate is well over $50 million. Plus, the City of St Pete wants to redevelop this section of their downtown area, and the existing Tropicana Field is too large (and ill-designed) for baseball. It was originally designed as a multi-purpose (football/soccer/baseball) stadium which no team wants to play in anymore.
@@jonniez62 absolutely not. A tiny town. Focus on the college World Series. Not ready anytime soon for a big league sport. Imagine putting any kind of team in Nebraska, the consensus most boring state in the US.
@@jonniez62 Nashville mayor publicly said Nashville isn’t MLB ready any time soon. They are going to ask taxpayers to fund the Titans new stadium, 2 billion. They also spent lots of taxpayer dollars on their MLS stadium. They have no more public money to spend on stadiums. And MLB would never approve a temporary 2 year move to Omaha. The Rays will stay in Tampa Bay at Steinbrenner for the foreseeable future or one of the minor league ballparks. They’ll even consider playing a season at Disney’s Wide World of Sports. Omaha is completely out of the question.

The Orlando Rays!!!!
Relocate them to Sac permanently 💯
Your facts are not right. The Ybor deal fell flat in 2018. Also, the Rays did make a definite commitment to St. Petersburg originally with the “Here To Stay” press conference last year, having worked for a year on the Gas Plant site and affirmative votes by both the City and County to support the project. If this falls apart, it’s all on the narrow tunnel vision of Pinellas County.
I’m only referencing reporting by the Tampa bay times on ybor. Article is linked in description
If they end up moving I’d bet it’ll be outside of Florida
@@GDavis49 not a chance MLB leaves the 10 million people and growing megapolis in central Florida. Nashville and Charlotte are out. Portland is a no. SLC is eager but they are out west and should focus on expansion or the Athletics. Raleigh is not a better choice for the Rays than Orlando for a number of reasons.
@ How many times does MLB need to fail in Florida before they move on? For whatever the reasons it hasn’t worked and it’s time to move on
@@GDavis49 honestly, that is a good point. I don’t know why Miami doesn’t support the Marlins. In Florida, there are far too many entertainment options than to pay attention to baseball. But still. A state of 23 million people and rapid growth should get plenty of chances to prove its support. This isn’t Nebraska.
@@BlackSaiyan24 Well said 👍 without another city being MLB “ready” this will probably drag on for years
Orlando would be perfect for The Rays, a way better city than St. Petersburg.
And Tampa is better than both ✌️✌️
It's the absolute worst spot in the state outside of the panhandle
@@muslimadamsandler Tampa has no money, either do the Rays stadium or renovate Raymond James or the Bucs leave to Orlando anyway, hope this helps.

Answer….
Montreal…

Rays and As play in Japan for 2026, 2027/ whenever ballparks are ready in the US
Does every stadium experience more visitors fans when then the Red Sox, Yankees, and Braves come to town or was that just a Rays thing?
It is a Florida thing. So many people here relocated from and brought their original fan focus with them.
142million for roads and sewers for a stadium built right next door to the existing Tropicana Field?
It is for revitalization of the entire Gas Plant District which is currently underdeveloped... which is why it was available to the Rays.
Why can't they just fix the damage? Did the building have no insurance?
Brodie covered this in earlier episodes. It was covered up to $25 million, but the initial repair estimate is well over $50 million. Plus, the City of St Pete wants to redevelop this section of their downtown area, and the existing Tropicana Field is too large (and ill-designed) for baseball. It was originally designed as a multi-purpose (football/soccer/baseball) stadium which no team wants to play in anymore.
They need to move to the actual city of Tampa since all the other pro teams do.
This is overly complicated like these dumb new baseball rules that are ALL terrible
Only people who don't live in Florida want them to relocate to another state smh😂
The Rays home attendance figures say otherwise
@@shewannaseered yeah, though they are NOT going to Nashville or Portland or Charlotte. 3 percent chance of them going to SLC or Raleigh.
Goodbye A's. Hello Rays. Oakland Rays. Let's go Oakland!
😂
Is it too late to send Manfred to outerspace before opening day ???? Maybe we can save money and make it a one-way trip ???
Omaha! Omaha!
@@jonniez62 absolutely not. A tiny town. Focus on the college World Series. Not ready anytime soon for a big league sport. Imagine putting any kind of team in Nebraska, the consensus most boring state in the US.
And imagine trying to convince players to
Sign a free agent deal in OMAHA. Lol.
@BlackSaiyan24 they can play here in 26, until they move to Nashville.

How so? Because he covers these sort of topics on his channel? He’s always said he doesn’t want or like when teams relocate.
