    Hi Nicole, I’m a seventy one year old Englishman and I want to thank you for your ultra grounded common sense videos. The first one I ever saw was the one where you started buying and selling with the guitar. I have just watched this one and you have totally confirmed all my conclusions about the pluses and minuses of u tube . There are so many lazy people in this world who will not put effort into thinking about and researching things . They are all around us . I wish you lived near me as I think we would be good pals , however the Atlantic is very wide and a bit wet!! Very best wishes for the future and I will continue to watch your channel with interest. Regards , Richard .

      Exactly. The finance “gurus” have it so easy these days to separate people from their money. Back in the 70’s, they had to put on big seminars in hotel ballrooms often in different cities to tell people about the “secret” to make big money, usually in real estate. After a big presentation that consisted of bragging about how much money they were making flipping houses, they would tell the audience that they needed to buy their book or sign up for advanced courses to actually learn the “secret”. Now they just do the same thing with a lot less works through social media.

    I call this the Ramsey effect….. He tells people how to get out of debt, and he’s right. But then he tells people how to maintain or get ahead and it is nothing like the way he did it. He makes his millions, tens of millions, hundreds of millions off of the advice he dolls out (book sales included) and the insurance financial guru institutions he has set up. So, as I tell people who are in severe debt, use Dave Ramsey to get out of debt, but don’t use him to get wealthy.

    • @SmallSpoonBrigade
      @SmallSpoonBrigade 14 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

      It's true of pretty much all the major names in financial education because the reality is a lot harder and can't always guarantee success. Nobody will ever get ahead if they don't have at least some disposable income that they can apply towards savings and investment activities. If you're working a minimum wage job where all of your money is already going to things that can't be cut, then you're never going to get anywhere, and thanks to changes in the economy, that is a thing that does happen. When most people have issues related to savings and the like, you do have to question to what extent you can really blame those folks for the situation they're in. And most of the advice that I see being handed out is just inappropriate to people who have real problems with finances. Most of it is like typical organizing books that are geared to people that fundamentally don't have a problem, they just don't know what to do. Definitely not people with real problems that need real solutions.

      Disagree cause he's helped so many people including my own parents. They followed his advice and got through it. It's not easy but it's the mindset and strategies to get through it. One thing I will say, I think for people who are in severe debt. Bankruptcy might be your option. Dave filled it himself. So he's no better than it.

      Ramsey is very clear that you don't get to his level of wealth by following the baby steps alone. They're not meant to make you a deca-millionaire or help you to retire early, simply for you to use your money wisely (and biblically) so you don't need to worry about finances for the rest of your life

    Very nice job covering the basics. I am sharing this not to brag but to show what’s possible. I’m retired and I have 2 separate portfolios. One is a long term growth dividend portfolio of stocks where i sell covered calls strategically and my 2nd portfolio is the Crypto trading strategy where its all about income. This year I am on pace to make $120K in realized options profits and around $869K in crypto profit... What is great is that my long-term portfolio is still up significantly as well. As such, it’s possible to generate excellent income but still have a total return perspective. ...Amidst this, the insights of a knowledgeable guide like that of Expert Shellane Maxwell can be crucial. Her expertise in navigating the nuances of trading has been the key for Me understanding and making the most of these emerging financial trends.

      absolutely right! people don't realize that if something is too good to be true, then it probably is. as george carlin said: it's a big club and you are ain't in it! they won't tell you their secrets about getting rich (they want more money, not competition).
      also, egocentric bias: many rich people born into a rich famility/grew up in a wealthy city/hand entrepreneur parents to learn from/had barely any commitments (groceries, looking after kid/parents, commuting, etc) so they had enough time to invest it into a business. all of them forget about the "yeah, my parents gave me a couple grands to start stuff" thing.

    The adage of "if it sounds too good to be true it is" is the best rule of life. Yes owning a business is great but like you said its a lot of work. Even if you are successful, and have employees doing your meanial work for you you are still working 24hrs a day doing financials and growing your business. Most businesses fail, in the first year or two, the next failure is around 5-7 years after it becomes realatively stable because the owner thinks thy are richer than they are and starts living beyond their means. Buying a over price car a boat and all the toys they always wanted or think that they missed out on. The focus becomes having a goodtime rather than keeping focused on the business. Most independant business people dont realize is that all they have done is bought themselves a job, and keeping the extra mouths from the feed trough is the only way you make money, and if you do make a scaleable jump to the next level sometimes the investment in time & money is not worth it.
    For the average person being employed by someone else is a better and safer place for them.

    This video highlights what many content providers and their sponsor rely on…a parasocial relationships with their followers to push their stuff. It is very effective! Many subscribers develop a trust and an asymmetrical intimacy with the people they like and follow and may even view them as a bit of a celebrity…while on the other hand, content providers have no idea who you are because they are talking to a lens every week. This asymmetrical relationship can be very dangerous when misused to peddle crap…i.e. subscriptions that can’t be cancelled, making money and real estate scams, etc. I recommend you never believe any offers presented by any content provider…and if any content provider is just working too hard to sell you stuff… this should raise a yellow flag…just my opinion…be safe.

    I’ve noticed many examples that you kind of brought up where because some of their brands are tied to their ‘frugality’ or minimalism they’ll find reasons and excuses to finesse the system.
    “I bought this super expensive sports car because it will appreciate in value so it’s actually an asset” and “it was better buying the mini McMansion compared to the normal house because it’s more attractive to sell in the future” are examples.
    Like just be honest - “I got filthy rich peddling sh$t to my viewers and I’m going to spend it however I want”

    • @AccordingtoNicole
      @AccordingtoNicole  20 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +14

      I will push back a little and say that just because you’re into minimalism or frugality or whatever doesn’t mean you can’t splurge on nice things that are important to you. In fact, that is the very essence of minimalism- prioritizing the things that make you happiest. Less but better.
      And people on internet can be insanely dogmatic and critical towards strangers who they feel aren’t making the decisions they agree with. But truly, no one owes others an explanation for the personal choices they make.
      However, when it comes down to exploiting your audience to get those things, I do agree with you.

      @brandonb7120 20 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +3

      @ I understand what you’re saying and I suppose the specific examples I’m thinking of are because those particular TH-camrs literally built their brands off a frugality of you should spend only what you must for necessity - almost a race to the bottom, until they made money and all of a sudden that got pushed to the side. It showed it was more a marketing ploy due to the popularity at the time of those topics

    • @AccordingtoNicole
      @AccordingtoNicole  19 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +7

      Or maybe they used frugality when their circumstances required them to and it paid off, and now they can live a little better.
      If they made a bunch of money and continued to act like they were broke for clicks, that would garner criticism too. You’re damned if you do, and damned if you don’t in the court of public opinion.

While in may increase in value over time you"ll still have to find a buyer to realize any profit, Will your profit exceed the rate of inflation?

Yes, He truly answers prayers in ways beyond imagination. This season, make time to build your altar of faith, dedicate moments to prayer, and watch how extraordinary changes unfold in your life. Financial breakthroughs and abundant blessings are waiting for you-just believe and take the step!

    Nicole you're so right. Remember as you succeed you will be the target. It's more about the journey and less about the goal. So if you spend 40 years to make 10 million dollars then what? You're at the end of your life with 10 million dollars. I think the trick is to have many goals. Everything in moderation. Each goal should be positive like a bucket list. Positive experiences. Bottom line you should spend less than you make adding to your financial success by default.

    Well stated on all fronts. The bros be bro-ing. The point about thumbnails is true too. For decades, legacy and local news people alike lived by the slogan "If it bleeds, it leads." They have to be sensational and out there to get attention, and since humans have a natural negativity bias, stories about crime and death will get more air time than positive news about great things happening around the world.
    What I love about TFD is that Chelsea talks about not just basic financial advice. She's open about what go her out of financial hardship (having a loving husband with a good job that had health insurance) and about how the current systems screws everyone. She talks about scams and politics and consumerism and how all of those things really work to our detriment under capitalism.

    Obviously, the personal-finance story of any personal-finance youtuber that you've heard of is going to have involved making a good amount of money from youtube. But that doesn't mean that the only route to early financial independence is by setting up a business. It's very possible to reach financial independence in your 40s (and maybe even your late 30s) by saving and investing money you earn at a regular job. It's just that you need to choose a lifestyle for yourself that's significantly more modest than what you can maximally afford. (And really, isn't "set up your life so that you're not spending all your money" the central tenet of personal finance success, full stop, no matter where that money is coming from?)

    When people say that income producing real estate is a great investment, it's not technically an investment. It's a business using property as the vehicle. You can't just write a check and collect monthly income. You have to actively manage the properties, marketing, tenant communications, and repairs.

      Yes, most people are better off buying into well-managed REITs if they want real estate exposure. Owning properties can easily be an entire job, and you may well get stuck showing up in the middle of the night to deal with problems that arise.

    Best way to get rich is to rip someone off. Starting a business is good, but only if you can sell overpriced products and services. You don't need millions of subs, you need to find some whales who are willing to buy a $1000 course from you, and that course is just info that anyone can find for free. You can mow someone's lawn, but charge $400 -- or pay an employee $20 to mow the lawn, and pocket the $380.

He was a heavy equipment mechanic, worked as a fleet mechanic for a large corporation, declined going into their management, earned lots of overtime, saved for a house, then a much bigger, better house in the country. For that bigger house he studied for and obtained a general contractor's license, and contracted out the construction of it. In retirement he enjoys himself. He never had expensive hobbies or toys, such as boats, gambling, etc. A very admirable guy who at times will help his neighbors with their house/yard problems and still visits a nursing home.

    • @SmallSpoonBrigade
      @SmallSpoonBrigade 14 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +2

      Fundamentally, people misunderstand what budgets are for and have unrealistic expectations. A budget is just a plan for where we want/need the money to go to be on the path to where we want to go. As long as the essentials like food, clothing, shelter and whatever obligations are covered, the rest of it is largely optional. I get a little bit tired about people complaining about living paycheck to paycheck when they have the money to cover all of their bills. If that's the case, then living paycheck to paycheck is effectively the result of poor cash management strategies. Simply just setting a side some of the money to cover an essential bill each paycheck until you're a month ahead and then do it again until you have all of your essential bills covered will eventually get there. However, if all the extra you can clear up is a few dollars, it might as well be impossible due to the amount of self-control and discipline that takes.
