The serial number in the description indicates that it was built in 1997, and the plate has New York Hamburg on it so it should be one built in 90's and later. But the smaller size of Steinway & Sons on the fallboard suggests it was from a much earlier year than 1997! Why?
Thanks for watching our video and great catch on the logo!!! This particular piano was refinished, which is somewhat unusual for a piano of it's age, but it was in a high use setting and the cabinet was beyond basic repair. Our refinisher applied the older logo, as that is their preferred logo and the one they had in stock at the time. The piano has since been sold.
Q: Do you do a pre-delivery inspection? I ask because I heard a TH-camr claim he bought a D and found sawdust in his. Which I found VERY odd...that Steinway didn't do a pre-delivery inspection before sending it to the dealer and that his dealer didn't do an inspection. Was this TH-camr making this up? I say ThAT because in another of his videos he did say a concert grand few could afford...implying not even he. He looks like some kid who stepped off the street who could play the piano. Always wears a jacket and/or hat in his videos. Needs a haircut. Looks like a street kid. Might be in his late 20's but is petitie. Why would Steinway ship any of their grands with sawdust inside? Why would they continue to finish building the piano leaving sawdust? Doesn't make much sense. That sounds like something some "Made in C___" brand no one's heard of would do. A knock-off. "Steinwye"...
Anderson, yes we do pre delivery inspections on all of our pianos that involves the exterior, interior, action parts, and tuning. It isn't unheard of for a piano to have a bit of saw dust or debris when arriving in store from the manufacturer. Often times the pianos are traveling all over the world while stood up on their bass end, so if there is debris present, it collects on the bass end of the sound board. If this is the case, the dealer should be the one to clean it after unboxing. - Zach
Another spectacular Ruggero restoration!
