It's the upgrade that makes the difference between Zap and Ball Ligthning. Upgraded Zap is freeeeeee.

Before the buff, dual-cast was just sort of not worth playing unless it gave you lethal. Now it's sort of just decent, along with being easier to fit into a crazy shadow burst damage combo

What? I watch Nothernlion's content for Northernlion. If I wanted to know what cards were in the game, I'd just look at the wiki or play it myself.
Brian Emmett I mean I just didn't watch any spoilers or looked it up, so this is new to me. You could've too
I'm playing the game so it was quite painful seeing the inserter wasted. But I guess it was his second run, so Eggdaddy has yet to discover the power of max orb slot combined with ice. And the horror of fighting the shelled parasite with an ice deck.
Nah, one melter and he goes down in a turn or two mate. Melter is key for ice decks, unless you're channelling a few darknesses (twin brothers darkness) in there.

You have a card that gives you a Power Card every turn, but don't play them because you don't have a ''power synergy''. Creative AI is a power synergy in it self.
Sometimes you wonder about him. 23:35 - "We have no powers coming up," two turns earlier he played the power that gives him a power card every turn.
Amplify, card that plays powers twice? Nah don't need that

This character is a lot more complex than the other two and I’m worried how long it’ll take for our egg to master the Defect

B4RD NL is more of a casual though, he isn't one to grind for perfection. Yes, he wants to be better too and improve, but he won't become some genius. That's just not him

That was probably a mispeak. I assume he meant 3 block metallicize. And in that case he'd be correct. Cold snap is vastly superior to metallicize imo
Is that why Ryan hates metallicize, because he thinks it costs 3 energy?

does anybody else feel like the defect was made without the rest of the game in mind? its different, but does it feel too different? I can’t really put my finger on it, just wondering what everyones thoughts are.
Mwarrior1991 there's plenty of robots in the game with funky powers and abilities so seems fine to me

15:35 This is the most violent I have ever heard NL get with his cats. Someone call PETA.
Stack is one of the best blocking cards in the game. It continues to get better as the game progresses, and it'll often end up being like 20 by end-game if you take all the cards you can, which is a viable strategy up until about ascension 12.
I thought the exact same thing with duelcast at first; channel next 2 orbs instead of channel first, twice
NL here's how to win as the defect. You need four cards. the first one is an echo form (the first card of your turn is played twice). The second and third cards are also echo form. Always play them as the first card of your turn. After the third echo form your first card is played 8 times. Then use a ball lightning to do 48 damage + 8 lightning channels which will likely result in an additional 32-64 damage damage...for 1 energy.

Just so you're aware NL the lightning strike is for every lightning you channel that fight. Not the orbs you have channeled that are lightning upon the time of using the card
Fun isn't considered when one watches a 33 minute episode with the new character full of misplays....but this, does put a smile on my face.
Yeah but let's cut some slack at least for the first runs! There will most likely be plenty of chance in the future to roast NL for Defect misplays ;)
To be fair I could understand someone thinking that card means "It 'channels your next orb' and does said effect twice" and not "It channels your next orb and does the effect it holds two times"

7:20 Zap is a great example of a card that is too weak prior to upgrade...like if Neutralize cost 1 by default. I get this feeling from a good portion of the Defect's kit. I see a card and I'm like, boy...that'd be good if I can upgrade but a drag if I can't. (EDIT: So there was a patch today. No changes to Zap, but Dualcast is now default 1 energy, upgrade for 0. probably some other significant adjustments as well...like it was a beta or something >.>)
Yeah, 2 energy Dualcast is just trash without dark orbs. Unless I have curse I remove it first.
That's what my edit said, Dualcast is now Default 1 energy, upgrade for 0.
At first when he was explaining everything and about the channel i was thinking to myself "Oh god fuck this character it sounds annoying" 5 minutes later I'm thinking to myself "Alright this sounds pretty cool and fun, i get it". This character might actually make me play the game again

Just for future reference: you can right click cards when they are shown to you (at the end of combat, in a shop, etc.) to see what their upgrade is.

Currently living in timeline 02XN denomination "Egg" where NL actually uploads Defect gameplay. We are in the best timeline folks.
from what i can tell, red character is more attack focused, green is more skill focused, and blue is more power focused

Dealing 7 damage for every lightning orb channeled during that combat seems really good for boss fights. Especially when you have a lightning deck. You're channeling constantly.

I read the new character as "The Defeat" which I consider a fitting character for nl considering all of his misplays.
thunder strike is amazing.
it doesnt say 7 damage for each ord, but for each lightning *channeled*
i.e. if you channel lightning 3 times in a row for 2 turns, when you use that card it will deal 7 damage to a random enemy *6 times* 42 damage for 3? pretty good i'd say

NL I'm sure you didn't play this character correctly, and didn't play it how I would have, but this character seems IMMENSELY complex and you're new to it so I hope you don't take any purely negative comments too hard.
I know it wasn't Drac we were waiting on eggboi, you've told us before he cranks out the thumbnails-nevertheless, great to see the new character!
So I guess this is a new series because people kept whining about how long we'd have to wait to reach the new character and NL didn't want to abandon his backlog.

Zap isn't strictly worse then ball lightning because zap can gey upgraded to be 0 energy instead of one it allows you to free up that energy for something like a defend
I suck with this new character, so I can't give great advice for you egg, however what I can say is that zap is probably the highest priority upgrade of all the cards in the starting deck.
I know the character is new, but madness is not. Why do you keep playing it for one in a handful of one energy cards? You could spend one to play a card you want, or spend one to make a random card you usually end up not wanting to play free so you're basically forced to play it.

Flin Fake I know it does. How many times did he roll through this whole deck and get to see that free card a second time? It might have happened once in there that I missed it. Getting to possibly play a random card for free after your next shuffle vs just playing the card that will actually end the combat before that shuffle even happens. Easy choice.
ChainedBirds sure, but not at the cost of not playing the cards you need to this turn that would end the fight faster than you'll ever enable those synergies. He got one lucky madness that hit a two cost card that he wanted to play once. Every other time I remember him playing it, he would have been much better off choosing to spend that one energy on a card he actually wanted to play.
He spends the first half of the game using a 1 cost Madness to make a random card from his selection of 1 cost cards free, therefore effectively losing his freedom of choice and gaining nothing. This man is God.
Don't rest against the hexaghost, man. His first attack is based on you current hp.

Would have loved to see a Blaster on my last run. I got the "gain 2 orb slots" and "Invoke all your orbs, gain an orb slot for each" cards and the Unceasing Top; Blaster would have been sooooooo good.
Storm and Creative IA is the ultimate combo! Combine this with tempest and u can focus in damage block!
But zap upgraded becomes free so its just a free channel of lightning while chain lightning just does more dmg but still costs 1
I haven't played it since the patch today but i'm pretty sure the defect is(was) immune to curse and status card effects. They just didn't go off at the end of the turn...
Zap is probably just better because it can be made free with either Apotheosis or by upgrades on campfires.
