  • During one of my weekly, winter cold starts, I noticed that the fuel pump on our 1968 VW Beetle was leaking. Don't know if it was just worn out or if it failed to the extreme cold weather we were having. Regardless, it had failed and it was time to replace it. I ordered a replacement online (link below) and today, we'll install it. I hope that you enjoy the video and find some useful information from it. If so, please take a moment to give it thumbs up, leave a comment and consider subscribing to our channel. As always, thanks for watching!

I have the identical 68 Bug, Diamond Blue, but it’s all stock as delivered. I like your accessories, lights, etc. Extra brake light is a good idea. 👍👍

A rebuilt Pierburg fuel pump is a better unit.

While my engine idles, my fuel filter (placed in line between pump and carb) fills to about 1/3.
Is this a sign of poor fuel pump? Should the filter be filled with gas as it gets pumped upwards towards the carb.? Thankyou

First things first... :) Remove the fuel filter from your engine bay. It's not safe there and the cause of many engine fires. Secondly, no, you'll never see your fuel filter completely full of fuel. From what you've described, that's normal.

Great video. I have a fuel pump that has been removed previously. How can I determine the correct orientation of the pushrod that is separate from the pump?

The rounded end of the rod goes into the block...the flat end towards the fuel pump.

      Buy a proper manual.

I've received two gaskets, one with hole in the center, the one you replaced first and another one similar to the two you have received with your pump. What I have to do with that ?
    Thanks

One would go on the bottom of the flange and one would go between the flange and the fuel pump..

@@kentuckyhotwheels my supplier told me that the one with hole in the middle goes on the fuel pump
