- I've had the Z5000 for ages, and it makes it into my rack more often than not, so it's about time to find out why. In today's video I explore some of the reverb algorithms in bank 1 and make some atmospheric jams. Please stay tuned for next weeks exploration of the the delays!

Thanks for making my algorithms sounds nice. I spent a few years just on the reverbs. I'm partial to the Hall for most reverb duties - I based it on the old Lexicon structure. Shimmer has most of the Hall algorithm plus the pitch but it can be overused like you say!
The mono -> stereo was done for two reasons; 1) to turn mono synth patches into stereo (end of chain) or 2) to be used on a send from a mixer (how most non-guitar pedal effects are used in the studio).
Looking forward to what you do with the other two banks!
The amount of time and effort spent on the algorithms is very apparent - they sound incredible! The delays are my favourite/most used element of the z5000 so I'm looking forward to making the next video :D
They do sound amazing! I was looking for an FX module for my rack and settled on the Z5000 just today. The other FX modules that I felt sounded as good are at least twice the price and often just reverbs (although obviously those have more CV mod parameters, which I didn't feel like I needed).
My gosh... in your hands, even a vacuum cleaner would sound fantastic! Thank you for demonstrating the endless possibilities and inspiring so many MMMs (mortal modular maniacs) like me.
love the Shimmer part! 🙏
i liked that bit too :)
Awesome video !! The shimmer set was epic !! 👏
Lovely examples of the module!
As always, great video! Love the sounds you get while being very informative. I've had my eye on this module for along time and part II might push me over the edge.
Thank you! It's a good edge to be pushed over :D
Amazing part on the shimmer demo. Always love the samples that you use.
Thank you! :D
Great video, especially the darkness bit at the end. Marvelous.
Thank you! :)
amazing and super useful video man!.. one more to the list ! ❣
thank you! :)
Excellent, Thanks for this review
Thanks for watching :)
I'm always so impressed with whatever module you're showcasing. Makes me want to have an fx rack so much, but I just know thats a rabbit hole you can't dig yourself out of :D
It's also a hole you don't want to dig yourself out of! lol
Good shout doing this video. I bought one used a few months back and was blown away by it. Just some of the pitch mod effects in stereo got me experimenting for hours.
I’m really looking forward to diving into the modulation effects as they’re the least explored for me.
This sounds really really nice
Thank you :)
thoroughly enjoyed this! definitely interested in this module now!
Cheers buddy!
I have one for sale in great condition
perfect timing for me, i picked one up yesterday
Excellent - hope you're enjoying it!
Great video !! gonna dive deep into my z5000, the poor thing hasn’t had much love lately !
I’m guilty of neglecting it too ~ especially the modulation bank. Looking forward to exploring them!
Sweet opening!
cheers man!
great inspiration
Cheers! ☺️
One of my fav
Me too :)
I hear you with shimmer being overused but it's just so good! This one is a great algorithm too, the pitch shifted part often feels kind of stuck on but this is really smooth. I bought the Valhalla plugin and had to resist the urge to slap it on everything, then a few months later I made one for free in VCV using Clouds and a great free reverb called Plateau. I'm slightly annoyed now 😂
This is definitely one of the better hardware shimmers though.
I’m the same with the Valhalla plugin ~ the free supermassive one is amazing too!
@@TheUnperson yep one of the best freebie plugins ever!
The jam at 12 min -
Haha love the funk face!
Look at that bigger case!
My friend built it! ☺️
Nice one! What was the signal Pam provided in the overview part for modulating the fidelity? Also square like in the next part of the video?
It was indeed a square gate :)
@@TheUnperson Thanks! Looking forward to the next video!
cool
thanks!
Love the video! I've been debating getting one of the following, but have been having hard time deciding, what would you (or anyone reading this!) go for:
1. An FX AID XL
2. TipTop Audio Z5000
3. Qubit Nautilus
Thank you!
If you want a dedicated/experimental delay then I’d go for the nautilus. If your focus is mostly on delay and reverb then the z5000 might be best. If you want a bigger variety of effects (lofi, ring mod, bit crush, etc) then go for the fx aid ☺️
@@TheUnperson great, I think your reply has helped me actually make a decision. I think I'm going to go for the Z5000, then a nautilus at a later date.
Why, oh why didn't they make it stereo in?! 😢
what do you think vs FX aid?
Good question! I think if you’re more focused on reverbs and delays then I’d go for the z5000, if you prefer the lofi/bit crush/ring mod kinda thing then the fx aid might suit you better.
I am thinking about getting a FX Aid Pro or maybe this one. But the mono in turns me off.
Maybe the Xaoc Timiszoara is a good alternative.
The pro is definitely on my radar!
Will need to check this one out!
Lovely video. But I’ve never before heard a Scotsman use “zee” instead of “zed”. 😂😉
haha what in the tarnation - I've been Americanized!!
@@TheUnperson It's OK, just kick back and listen to some records by that famous band, Zed Zed Top. 🤣
BRING THE DARKNESS.
Haha yesss!
