this is a great explanation of the diferent composition outcome using the hard side light, bottom light and the ring light, but the best of all is combining it all. Using MF12 and combining with MF-R76 is so awesome with the Creative macro shot and the composition makes it alive on very detailed outcome. so beautiful ....
I'd prefer the top MF12 directed more towards the peppers and the bottom one dimmed slightly (further away, filtered...) without the MF-R76 altogether - same results without the disadvantages of the ring light. With the nonreflective background under the coins it worked like a charm, though. On complex shapes, like that medal, the ring light seems essential. All in all the R76 seems very powerful, probably not just for macro, the performance advantage over ring 72 is huge.

I like taking macro photos of flowers. The MF-R76 would be a great addition to my kit since it will be easy to carry around and when used in conjuncture with natural sun light, can help me create stunning images. MF-12s will come handy when shooting in the studio or indoors.
Great video. I have a lot of Godox studio strobes, a bunch of on camera, and a couple of AD200s. For a few years I've used a V1 with an attached reflector directing the flash down in front of the lens (I use a Fuji with the 80mm and a Canon R5 with the RF100mm). I got pretty good results, but when the MF12 came out I bought it. However, it was defective in that the mount would rotate on the ring and not stay in position. I returned it to B&H and then the replacement had one of the two lights not working. TWO more replacements and always one light wouldn't work. I saw your video about the R76 and bought that and it's worked well. I just wished they had included TTL. I bought the macro lights in the winter, so now that it's prime macros season, I missed the flexibility of using the trigger so that I could use another light with the macro's lights on the MF12. I never thought about putting the R76 on top of one of the triggers (I have the X2 and Pro for both the Fuji and Canon). However, I have a question about that. The R76's controller is pretty heavy, so putting that in the hot shoe on top of a trigger (thankfully the new X2 trigger from Adorama has the click type) seems very heavy and not that balanced. Do you have any thoughts about that? I wouldn't use that setup much because I find the R76 has given me good results in the field, but it would be nice to have the option. Finally, if they do a version two of the R76 it would be great to have a detachable cord which would make it much easier to pack in a bag. So again, could you comment on the weight of the R76 on top of the trigger given that camera hot shoes are not build for a lot of weight and if damaged would be expensive to repair.
@@GODOXGlobal Thanks for your response. I had already watched the two videos you suggested. The issue wasn't in how to operate the MF12, the issue that three purchases in a row had one of the flashes defective. I was frustrated by that, and surprised, because as I mentioned in my original comment, I have 12 Godox flashes, studio and on camera and triggers for both Canon and Fuji. So I love Godox, but the MF 12 just was a bad experience. As suggested in the video, I did try putting the R76 Controller on top of my Canon R2 Pro MarkII trigger with the V1 on a stand and it worked perfectly. I did feel it was a bit top heavy when using the camera, especially handheld for macro, but it did work and I got great results. Again, it would be nice for TTL, but I guess that's a challenge with a universal hot shoe, but being able to detach the cable for easier packing would be great.
I THINK I MISSED THE GIVE AWAY, BUT LOVE MICRO SHOTS ESPECIALY WHEN IT COMES TO PRODUCT PHOTOGRAPHY SO GOOD LIGHTING IS NEEDED AND THIS LIGHT DOES DELIVER.
