  • So in the last few videos of this particular build you will know I have constructed this using my remaining 1/14 Tamiya Grand Hauler parts and other Tamiya King Hauler truck parts. In this one I take it out for the first time to make sure everything is working as it should with the tri drive and make sure we have no binding, it also gave me the opportunity to see where I want to go with this build and work out a few other glitches that I may need to overcome to make sure the truck runs as smooth as possible..
Anyway all is explained in the video so sit back and enjoy as we watch this custom tri drive tamiya truck built from scrap flourish into a wonderful machine.
Feel free to buy me a coffee.. It all helps the channel.

For a first run that is brilliant pal. Cannot wait to see the tweaks and mods.

Thanks, doesn't need much to get it efficient.. Going to tug of war it first against Rusty 👌

LOVE the TWELVE Wheel burnouts!!! 😜
Very impressive! Three locked Diffs would ELIMINATE any chance of Steering. I've got a trick for that... Doesn't involve locking, does involve all THREE Axles pulling!!
Nobody on the Planet wants to listen though.

      I'm all ears 😊
I was planning on locking the first 2 axles and leaving the rear to reduce scrub and once I've done a couple of Mods to the steering, it shouldn't be too bad.. Rusty is fully locked and works like a trooper, it does loose a little in the steering when fully loaded but so do real ones, my other option was to use a nice thick diff grease and pack it full to create a limited slip diff 👍👍

OK! I started using Marine Grease, packed in like you said...
The gears quickly pushed the Grease out of the way 😳
What WORKED was an idea from 1/5th Scale RC. Team Associated 500,000wt CST Silicone Diff Lube. Of course normally, those Diff cases have Gaskets to seal in the Lube. Tamiya doesn't supply that, except on a few high-end Race Cars.
My solution, a thin bead of automotive RTV Silicone Gasket Sealer, around the mating surfaces of the Diff halves!
It should be available at any auto parts stores... and my mate in West Midlands told me that Halfords carries it as well.
Now, 500,000wt is roughly as thick as Blue Tack! You'll have to scoop it in before each part of the Diff is assembled.
BUT unlike heavy Grease, this stuff STAYS on the gear teeth. It's not flung off at speed!
I'll find the video on my Channel where I show just how well it works. 😊

That seems a good idea, that's why I like thick greases in my crawlers and stuff as it just disperses from the gears, I have various wt lubes so may have to try that, also, silicone earplugs work too 👍

If you saw the Video I shared above.... you CAN go near Lock with this particular Lube! That's why I suggest 500k to 1.5 Million K.
I have heard of the Silicone Ear Plugs trick. Haven't tried it, but have seen it at Crawler Comps here.
BTW, I WON a Crawler Comp with my Axial Wraith... Locked Rear - BUT 1Mil K open in Front!! It really works Scotty, I just can't get anyone to believe it. Even with PROOF!
I've another proved Theory... this one about the 25 year old MISCONCEPTION that 80 turn Motors have "more Torque" than lower turn Motors. 😳
People are SO STUCK on that incorrect notion, that the mere mention of my idea - sparks HEATED controversy!! 🙄 So I've stopped bothering.
Until I can get my very detailed video made about it.
My Grand Hauler has got a 4:1 Gear Reduction Unit and 35 turn Motor.....
She can CRAWL at less than 1/2 of a mile per hour - towing TWO kids in a Wagon!!
But nobody wants to hear that either.
It's because the RC "cool kids", 25 years ago, with NO mechanical knowledge, told everyone that locked Diffs and BURNOUT prone high turn Motors were the ONLY way to go.....

Cheers, Yes definitely, just a slightly smaller pinion, a crawler motor and some tires that actually grip 👍

Moving the fifth wheel forward a little bit will transfer weight which will help with traction and steering

    • @scotty555babe
      @scotty555babe  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I was planning on turning the plate around and flip the fifth wheel on the plate as it puts it pretty much over the centre axle, I can't go too far back due to my trailers catching on the rear bumper when turning 👍👍

Going to do the steering mod this morning then do a comparison with and without steering mod, then next I'm going to do tug of war with triaxle vs rusty, then do diff lock video and a test, the another tug of war with triaxle locked and geared down. 👍👍
