  • 3D printed 1/14 scale concrete block forms. Recorded some of the footage of the build and the display. I increased the density on the molds so that constant screwing and unscrewing wouldn't wear them out as quick. nice molds these are the ones on thinyverse correct? I have seen them. how did your molds hold up under the heat of curing from concrete? I seen that they aren't a solid infill which I know would of taken a lot of filament to do. with my experience in 3d mold making for concrete forms I use quick dry floor patch. its not as dense as concrete its manageable and sandable sets up in half hr. The heat will play a big part in warping the mold possibly after constant repeated castings in short time. I also found with different release agents a lightweight cooking spray works best. sticks to the plastic yet also no residue left after cast is released from mold.

      @westernsharpie  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ya thingiverse. Molds holding up perfect. I've been making blocks everyday for the last two weeks. I've made about 30 blocks so far. No warping at all. Could be the design, i don't know. Ya I use regular cement and sift out the rocks. Probably not as strong as that floor patch stuff, more on the sandy side, but still pretty strong, able to sand them a bit and best of all its $4 a bag.

    That's an excellent idea and very good job, the rendering is very good, but it must be heavy, right? I wonder if it would be possible for it to be hollow inside 🤔 Just an idea to avoid too much weight on the truck, in case he has a heart attack 😁

    • @westernsharpie
      @westernsharpie  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Pascal, yes that would be an idea, but it is nice that they are heavy because it makes it more realistic. Maybe to prevent the truck from a heart attack I can strengthen his little heart by giving him a better motor, more torque with some gear reduction and change some plastic pieces to metal. Thanks for the comment and watching as always. joyeuses fêtes!! 🎄

    WAY TOO COOL!!!! 😁😎😎
    I'm saying this too often, but I've GOT to get some cash together. I'm going to be building a BEAST of a stretched Globe Liner, built for Heavy Hauling!!
    ..... And believe me, with three Electrical Engineers in my Family - I KNOW that 80 turn Motors do NOT have more Torque than lower turn Motors!!!! 😉😁
    They just have a lower top speed.
    My Grand Hauler has a 35T Motor and a 4-1 Gear Reduction Unit.
    It's Towed 210lbs!!
    {I try to get as many people as possible to realize that. The high turn=torque theory was MADE UP by competition Crawlers over 20 years ago. It's just been accepted, even by some Manufacturers!
    EXCEPT Holmes Hobbies}

    • @westernsharpie
      @westernsharpie  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Carmine. Ya I remember you saying the high turn less torque theory. Electrical seems to be most peoples weak spot so naturally they'll just follow the masses and the masses are saying high turn equals more torque. Ya Holmes is absolute wizard when it comes to understanding motors. It may as well be in Chinese for me, but I sure do appreciate it. I'll stick with making toys lol.

    Great idea. Good to see that 3D printing is starting to be creativity used in the hobby. Just one comment, why use all grout for the block; agreed very heavy. Instead they could have a [styro] foam interior with a grout surround for exterior; similar to architectural building detail. Would lessen the weight quite a bit, but still give the look. Just my 2¢.

    • @westernsharpie
      @westernsharpie  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats a great idea. I used the grout only because i had it laying around and all i had at the time. I wanted to see if it would work. After it didn't, I used actual cement. The weight isn't really an issue unless you're going on long drives and up hills which in which I don't really plan on doing with this stock truck. Pouring the cement is pretty simple but it be nice to see the foam inserts. Thanks for the comment 👍
