You can break in gears with tooth paste ,clean apply grease !
YES! Or some other abrasive paste, like valve grinding compound (which comes in different grits; fine-medium-coarse). Apply paste, drive the car and after you are satisfied clean it ALL out with soap and water, then apply grease and go on your merry way.
New production of WPL steel parts are relly great.
the kits typically come with the paper spacers... I threw on 4-5 pieces per diff and they have perfect/smooth engagement
I am issues with gear engagement with one shim so I’ll try more thanks.
I wish i had found this video earlier before damaged 6 set of my mnd90 rear axle gear 😅😅😅....
Thanks for this! I have a c24-1 RTR and a metal upgrade kit coming soon so this was very helpful
Thank you very much for sharing what needed to be done for smooth axle
The assembly is a bit figity but I completed in about an hour. I had very minor gear binding but after placing the gaskets the gears are running very smooth. I did grease the pinion and ring gears because it was so smooth.
I'll run the truck doing some trailing then do the final cleaning. Thanks for the tutorial.
Well done, Thanks for sharing 👍👍💪💪
Great Tip!!!! Thank you from LemonTree RC
nice video!
thanks for sharing!!
Excellent video mate. 🦘🦘
Thanks for sharing
Padu boss.. thanks..
thank you for this, bro! 👍
this would surely be helpful for me to build my c34km that is long overdue already 😔
Can I know is the WPL D12r axle upgrade here able to go differential?
Is the upgrade rear wpL differential a 110scale
Would using a slow electric screwdriver on the input work? It gives more control than a high speed drill. Of course the input shaft needs wrapped in plastic so it is not damaged by the screwdriver bit.
Hi Edward,
The original D12 rear axle assembly gears are plastic?
Next, which way to insert the metal drive shaft? The drive shaft "male" side attach to the servo motor end, "female" side joint attach to rear axle? Or either way will work the same? Thanks!
If RTR yes plastic gears
Metal versions here
www.wpl-rc.com/products/metal-gear-for-d12-gearbox
www.wpl-rc.com/products/rear-axle-metal-upgrade
Either way work the same. In rc crawling, some prefer to have the female version to the higher side so in case debris fell in, it could fall back out ifself.
@@EdwardChew Thanks for your advise👍
Hello Edward, question plz, what are the sizes of screws and the scewdrivers do you use for axels and building a KM/Kit?
@J MO thanks bro 🖒
The way I did with my metal axles was assemble with grease and attach the Dremel to the pinion and turn it fast for a few seconds after that it was smooth, also added grease where the bearings are inside the axle tube and pinion bearings
Try not to spin from the input pinion though, it's harder to grip and risk breaking it as well since there's material removed to create a flat spot for tightening the grup screw.
@@EdwardChew Thanks for the advice I will keep in mind the next time
@@carloshnunez if u need to. Grip the wheel adapter instead
Greetings Edward! How are the two methods comparable? In No. 1 you're just installing paper gaskets and you're set, and in the No. 2, you're wearing the ring and pinion dry before cleaning and applying grease. I'm at a loss here, sorry.
Got my axles assembled, but I want to get it right. TIA
Hi bro. If you have paper gasket, just use the paper gasket method and you should be good to go. When I was filming this, there was no paper gasket, so had to do the break in method. Hope that answer the question. If not let me know 🤜🤛
Yes it's better to wear the ring and pinion first, which will induce some brass powder. Once the axle is smooth, you can now apply grease.
If you apply grease and do the break in, you gonna get some metal sludge(i exaggerated). Do you think it's easier to clean an axle without grease or an axle with grease?
@@EdwardChew just one more, I purchased a couple sets of paper gaskets. Is it unnecessary to wear the ring + pinion and then apply grease and add gaskets?
@@ljdelgado most likely your axle will run smooth after adding the gasket. so doesn't need break in, just apply grease and close it up.
Thanks for the tip👍👍
Just wondering if you got postage available from China to Australia at the moment
Reopening coming september :-)
But it's odd i found out other store not shipping to Aussie
@J MO yes can
damn. now i need to buy the full metal kit... don't i hahah!
😏😏 Yea
You are now poisoned by WPL haha
hey buddy haha
@@fords4life914 haha
luckily all this stuff is actually pretty cheap. I don't think I paid more than 100 bucks for all axles, suspension, engine
this was awesome video there my friend thanks for sharing this with us , i just ordered the RTR version so it comes ready to play now i just need to do some upgrade , what do you recommend me upgrade for better play time ?
thanks in Advance bro:-)
Stock battery also getting u 20mins😊
biggest weakness of the plastic stuff is just how nothing is tight ever. Screws going into plastic threads right..everything wiggles around and shifts and clunks constantly. All the metal upgrade parts are tight, move freely and don't fall apart. I took my c14 rtr out and literally the first run outside on rocks the back wheel fell off - the wheel/axle adapter just came out. I glued it and threw it back together but yeah, other than that
What grease can we use on the gears? actual automotive grease or vaseline or what
The pack comes with grease which is like actual automotive grease
@@EdwardChew Mine didn't have grease in the pack..ended up just using some blue lithium automotive grease.
Edward question for you. Do you have a tutorial on the more difficult front axle?
not at the moment. not that difficult, just more parts :D
try this one :)
th-cam.com/video/4OD-m7-56lE/w-d-xo.html
my axle keeps slipping not working?
Hi can i use board xx-162r with 370 motor?
It will work but risk of burning the board
@@EdwardChew so only res V3? Or i can put esc on this board?
@@rysiek9074 yes use RESV3
@@EdwardChew ok thanks
im repeating what pjm said it was very usfull for me to but i will do what you said first i will put gasget in before tuning the gear ...................
Is this for 1/24
1/16 or 1/12. depends
it is a defect , after a while the downhill and uphill gears lock up without drag brake (in neutral), I also tried with all available gears, brass, steel!! :(
try to let it slide on its own downhill, the gears stop
Pls break in like video shown
@@EdwardChew the driveshaft tends to tilt the gear when not driven by acceleration or reverse , and occasionally blocks the gear causing it to snap (crunches
) I'll make a video!
@@EdwardChew same problem
th-cam.com/video/xJQEojxAUVk/w-d-xo.html
@@hristoivanov9587 yes bro. Meshing issue. Too much of free play
Install drive shaft closer in
Show,,,,,,
Is it fit to install open differential gear on it??
you need a different set of shafts/diff. I actually accidentally ordered the wrong set and it came with the open diff version. had to get it replaced but I still have the open diffs
Front axle have the same issue
same method
I'm so unlucky to find this tip too late😭 i already busted my gears😭
Same here bro 😭
sucks but you can buy replacement axleshaft/gears for pretty cheap
