Wild flight. Can't believe how well you did. Lot's to do to fly the plane even with the flight engineer. Never seen a plane go backward. Also enjoyed the brake squeal. Would love to see more!
Awesome glad you enjoyed it! Be sure to watch next Friday, I'm flying Live around the Caribbean and giving away 10 copies of a new MDSD scenery too during the stream!
Definitely was enjoyable, and the takeoff and landing was much better than the first time round for sure! Just need to handle the next tutorial to try and learn that closely next and keep building up
I found this the other day, if you push back then try and start your using the planes electrical power, that’s why the engines turn slow and can have start issues. Make sure you reconnect the ground power in the tablet. This is my go to plane now in msfs. Would be great to fly with you with my dc6. Great video, way better than mine.
The gyro pilot is multi stage. There’s a switch on the horizontal section next to the direction knob. That needs to be clicked left to gyro. Think it was. But you didn’t select level control, switch on the right where the gyro switch is which you did click, if that makes sense. So, 4 in total, gyro switch, lock lever and the two flick switches. And then you use the direction knob to turn. That direction knob is turned to the left quite a lot in your flight... Maybe you knowingly turned gyro off at some point.
Quite early on I turned the gyro off infact 🤣 during initial climb it seemed to work nicely but then it tried to put me into a hard right roll so stopped using it and flew the entire way manually - I'll learn it eventually!
Looked like a really fun flight, about as eventful as my first trip :P Keeping those radials happy is a full time job but finding it very satisfying, trying to do without the AFE as much as possible. Btw you can start lowering flaps at 174kts (9 o'clock on the air speed dial) and go all the way to flaps 20 before reaching the white tape. I expect you would find that out soon enough anyway.
Nice - yeah not focussed too much on that but if the tutorial yet... Think I managed pretty well having only tried to really learn Engine Start 🤣 it threw enough at me that's for sure but it was an incredibly enjoyable hour
28:20, engine 1 RPM at 0. When you next look down at 28:36, just a couple of seconds after "the squeeze", the RPM have already got to the same as 3 and 4. Would love to have seen the behaviour in between as that looks a bit like "buggy magic" to my untrained eye !?!
I'm wondering if it was due to the fact I had unfeathered the prop so was spinning again due to that and generating rpm on the gauge perhaps? Not sure - I'll no doubt try it again some time and try to watch it closely!
Without mixture though, there's no fuel flow so not sure how the engines would start if mixture was off (think training aircraft - you cut the mixture to off and it stops the engine as it starves it of fuel)
@@BritishAvgeek The primer is enough to start them. I think you even get fuel pressure with the mixture cut off. There's some posts about this on the PMDG forums.
That's what I thought. The AFE sets all engines to the same prop RPM. Engine 2 had been down on power for a while, so I assume the AI gave it a bit more throttle. Once manual throttle was engaged again, Engine 2 was always lagging. I think that's the downside of only having one throttle peripheral in an aircraft like this. You really need a 4 throttle quadrant to get each engine set just right. I'm pleased that they've modelled each engine to have slightly different characteristics though.
@@jasonwebb71 yeah it's pretty fantastic but keybinds are the biggest issue like you say - single throttle bar trying to carefully manage each individual engine is actually quite hard near on impossible 🤣
I am going to buy this plane. But I only have a poorly performing notebook. (Intel i5-8300H, 16GB DD4 Ram, Geforce Gtx 1650 with 4 GB RAM, Monitor 1920 * 1080) Do you think it's good enough for the DC-6? I've watched quite a few videos on TH-cam and they all had better computers than me and still I saw that the FPS couldn't be high. (Google Translator)
FPS for some aren't high because they have bad graphics settings... I have my sim locked at 35FPS and consistently get 35fps always in the DC6 with my system... But I think you would have to have your settings all on low

Personally I've been really impressed - love how the whole cockpit shakes and some of the hydraulics lines vibrate in the cockpit too which is fantastic to see!
@@BritishAvgeek Well I saw some more videos after that, and it seems that in your video there is an additional slight blur, so it is not that bad, however the aircraft defenetly has quite a few graphical flaws. A lot of primitive 2D textures over bigger areas in the cockpit and on the outside model. I don't know if they will fix these over time (i really hope they do). But that is something that drags a very interesting and well needed aircraft with very detailed systems down by quite a lot.
@@Ismalith always good to know! I had a pre-release version used in this and they updated it yesterday with a big update. I do see what you mean though with the fabric lining etc but it's not too bad but can sometimes appear blurry/grainy
'so it appears i lost engine one' for some sounded so funny to me . Well done very good video
haha well I had 3 more left so wasn't too concerned!
Great video. Really enjoyed watching you deal with the problems.
Thanks! Need to get back into the DC6 too and try tackle it again through a chilly Alaska!

Busy flight and a good landing for second attempt! Will get easier when you've got the hang of using the "autopilot", I expect.

now you mention it, I remember that the started the engines on stand before pushback in the tutorial didn't they? (PMDG)
@@BritishAvgeek think so, as soon as you push back the little booster pack disconnects. It’s a really complex and fun plane to learn.

At 37:53 (soon after "all four engines running nicely"), did you notice several of the needles fluctuate? Were you "fiddling" with something?
Probably 🤣
I had problems starting engines 1 and 2. It works better if I begin with mixture cut off, prime at 6 and only turn mixture on once the engine starts.

I have the same problem w engine #1!
Basically we're not flying it right 🤣
At 35.24, engine 2 RPM matches others and the #2 lever is not aligned with the others. Was that done by you, or the AI engineer?
Only thing I was changing with engines was the throttle
