  • This video will help you get to grips with the very basics of flying the newly released DC-6 from PMDG in MSFS 2020. This is a beautiful aircraft and impressively detailed, just as we've come to expect from the PMDG team. This video covers flying the DC-6 from a cold and dark setting, to landing, using the onboard Flight Engineer to help us fly a full traffic pattern. We show how we use the Radios, ILS, & VOR/NDB systems. We also have a look at how the Autopilot (Gyropilot) works in the DC-6 and use it to fly and intercept the ILS for an approach.

    You seemed to be having problems controlling the speed on the landing; lots of throttle adjustments. I noticed you actually landed with 20 degrees of flaps. The PMDG tutorial uses 50 degrees. That would have definitely helped to slow you down without as much throttle movements.

    A 57 minute "Quick Start", I am sure your content is good but calling an hour video 'quick' is false advertising.

    For some reason, with the gyro and altitude hold on, and the mechanical connection on, the DC6 won’t allow me to make changes using the turn wheel or pitch change wheel. Any ideas?!

    Need to be more gentle, no sudden changes…recommend watching PMDG DC-6 tutorials, 20 in total.

    I have to admit to being a bit confused as to when to turn on the approach mode with this aircraft. Some YT videos I've watched say they only turn it on once the glide slope needle starts to move down. I've tried this and it will work in one flight and then totally fail the next time I try it....have no idea why. Here you've turned it on way before that so I'll try that and see how it goes. Anyway...thanks for the vid.

    Nicely done dude. This video is exactly what I needed. To be shown how to get the job done as simply as possible. It’s a very complex aircraft with a huge learning curve. I managed to take it on a few short flights, flying it manually. It’s very sluggish and quite challenging to control. Ironically, I found the landings to be a lot easier than I thought. Looking forward to getting more in depth with it.

    Much appreciated Gavin, really interesting video , was thinking of buying this ,your video has made it a yes. Have been flying sims since F S 98 with varying degree of succes ,left a lot of broken aircraft behind me still work in progress.

    “Don’t” #1: Don’t start a flight on the runway with the aircraft parked, stairs out, GPU connected. Lol!

      The idea was for a fast and as simple tutorial as possible. This didn't involve a 7 min taxi to the runway. So, we started the video on the runway to save people's valuable time.

    Hi Gavin
    Flown this thing quite a bit now and it behaves as it should without GPS. Radio nav is so involving and I must admit to getting hooked on it.
    One thing I haven't got sussed yet is transferring from GPS to ILS. It seems to not pick up the ILS after following a course on GPS although it can see it. Same flight with radio nav works every time. More to learn on my part I guess!
    Thanks for the video.

      You changing the dial to approach mode?

    • @SteveSmith-hw7kb
      @SteveSmith-hw7kb 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dommorris325 Yes!
      Still haven't sussed it yet. If I do radio nav then go to approach it works every time. Do a GPS track and go to approach and it's a lottery.

    When I tune in an airport or an ILS it won’t work? Only works at the airport in sat at? Do you have to be in a certain distance away for it to find it?
