    I’m sure all of us have thrown away rotten vegetables, expired products or leftovers. Reducing food waste does not only save the environment but it also helps you to save lots of money and time in the long run. How can we play our part? I’m going to share with you 10 really simple food hacks to REDUCE FOOD WASTE and SAVE MONEY.

    10 TIPS TO REDUCE FOOD WASTE
    1) Freeze riped fruits
    Frozen fruits can be blended to make fruit smoothies, nice-cream and they can even be added into baked goods to make healthier cakes and muffins.
    2) Save the Bones & Leftover Vegetables
    Instead of throwing away bones or forgetting your leftover vegetables, cook them! You can use them and make a really tasteful bowl of soup without any added stocks or preservatives.
    3) Turn extra veggies into vegetable soup
    Another thing you can you do with the leftover vegetables is to mix them all together and make creamy vegetable soup puree. Now if you hate eating your vegetables, this is also a really great way to meet your 5-a-day.
    4) Pickle Your Vegetables
    Fermented vegetables make nutrients more readily available, they promote a healthy gut and contains probiotics.
    5) Turn Stale Bread into Croutons
    Instead of throwing them out, why not slice them into small cubes, brush with a little bit of butter, sprinkle with garlic salt and bake them to make yourself some croutons.
    6) Freeze Extra Herbs in Ice Cubes
    Chop them up, place into ice cube trays, add some water or oil and freeze them to make herb cubes.
    7) Use Lemon Peels to Make Infused Water
    Save the peels because that’s where most of the essential vitamins, minerals and enzymes are. Simple infuse into your water or tea and gain to gain the benefits.
    8) Egg Shells
    I like to save my eggshells and let them dry out. Then simple use a grinder and grind the shells into fine powder. Should one of my dogs get diarrhea, I’ll just sprinkle a couple teaspoons of the eggshell powder on their food and the diarrhea goes away.
    9) Turn leftovers into a One-Pot Dish
    Turn those little bits of leftovers into a one-pot dish by mixing everything together and take it to work for lunch!
    10) Use a Spray Bottle for Your Oil
    Using a spray bottle will help you to reduce on your calorie intake, as you’ll tend to use a lesser amount. This will make your food less greasy, reducing the fat intake in your diet, which can help you to lose weight.

    OMG Joannah, what a lovely thoughtful video 😍, a lot of people talk about fitness and health but only a few even consider food wastage. I have personally come across so many people who mindlessly waste food without thinking twice. I personally had trouble with bread getting expired and food rotten but you sorted them out. See another reason to love you. I am going to share this video with most of my friends.😘😘😘

      Please do share them on!! I do not like wasting food myself and would try to save them as much as I can. because I'm living on my own and can't finish a loaf of bread so quickly, I tend to portion them out and freeze or refrigerate half the portion for later on. =)

      I always freeze half the loaf of my freshly bought bread. Just thaw whatever you need. They taste no different.

    These are great hacks. What i also do is buy reduced item products from the supermarkets then store them in the freezer when i get home if i wont be cooking on that day. I was sad to see how much stock supermarkets actually throw away. This way you can save money as well as reduce food wastage.

    This video was timed perfectly for me. I just bought some ziplock bags for homemade frozen burritos and now I can use the bags to freeze my veggies too👌I always feel horrible wasting fresh produce. I especially ikr the tip about freezing ripe fruit because I always end up with overly ripe bananas before I have a chance to eat them. Great video 😊

    Thanks Joanna. I also try to use vegetables and fruits as much possible. Like I try to cook vegetables without peeling off. Or try to use the skin of vegetables making another type of dish.

    Hey, can you please do a video about how to maintain a good body during exams??? During exams I am likely to do some mindless munching and the exercise frequency also reduces which gets me a lot more stressed. Can you please suggest some tips with that????

      Hi Anoushka, I can understand how stressful exam can be and how we can just give in to mindless munching. I am guilty of that myself when work gets too much for me. I find that whenever I have the urge to just munch because I'm stressed out, stopping and just taking 5 mindful deep breaths really help. It might not work on the first try, but keep practicing it and tell yourself that you don't need that junk to make you feel better for like a minute, because you'll only feel worse later.     Awesome video!! Food waste is such an important topic that always seems to be ignored. Another thing that I love to do to stop waste is to turn my food scraps into compost. It's a fun project that is wonderful for the environment and is a great way to fertilize your garden. :)

    I like to cook a big roast and make a lot of different things with it. Say I made pork, we would have carnita's with a salad, I could make tamales, and also I could even stretch it further into BBQ pork and place it over a baked potato! Great tips, thank you!

    I use egg shells for gardening by basically adding dirt and seeds in the eggshell and till the the plant sprouts I put the egg and plant into a pot or ground

    I've been doing most of these for a while now. Really saved tonnes of money! I used to spend more than rm1000 to try and eat healthy; buying organic products for instance but after switching ways of buying and making sure to keep food waste to a minimal, now the grocery cost for me went down to rm200 per month! I'm still able to enjoy all those usually expensive imported fruits like strawberries, cherries, etc. Some of the food can also be turned into organic compost for my garden. Even my weekly espresso granules aren't wasted. I turn it into an invigorating skin scrub and then the remaining granules will go to the garden. Really makes the soil fertile. So, in conclusion, all it takes is some effort from our part mostly. If we keep on saying we don't have time, then nothing is going to change. In order to save time, try doing weekly food prep.nit probably could help most of us.

    We just chop the herbs and put them in the freezer (because they contain water, they freeze anyway). If we have extra food but it's not enough to be a full meal, we just add some eggs and make omelette out of it. You also can make pancakes or cutlets with leftovers. By the way buckwheat goes very well with meat in cutlet.

    If I see in my fridge something that needs to be eaten otherwise it will go bad, I search for recipes with it as an ingredient. Meal plan helps not buying random stuff which we don't have idea how to use later on. P.S. lemon peel is good to put in the dishwasher too, helps to freshen everything up.

      Hi Uffaira, I do have lots of HIIT cardio which you can follow. It's a matter of consistency and remember that FOOD plays 80% to your success. So eat a well balanced diet and be mindful with your eating habits. I hope you'll watch the other videos on my channel to help you through your journey. =)

      This is what I do with lemons/limes. After peel them and take the seeds out, put them in blender and blend and then freeze a spoonful at a time, in ice cube tray, that way you are not throwing away all the pulp, which has a lots of nutrition. So as I need it I take out a cube at a time, whether to put in my water to drink or in cooking.

    I use lemon and orange peel and toss them in my flower area outside the house to keel the neighbor's cat's away not no use my small garden as a WC. It works. Now the cats just walk around the flowers 🤣🤣🤣

    Raw egg shells can give dogs salmonella. Learned about that from the recent dogs holding raw eggs in their mouth "challenge".
