Great video, installed mine last weekend and probably wouldn't have done it without this video. I cut off the outside tabs on the lights so they fit flush and secured the bottom with a screw through the remaining tab. I did not use the red wire and did not use the yellow wire from the 4 wire bundle. I used only the black and white from the 4 bundle for tail lights and connected the red and black (after extending them) from the 2 wire bundle so that the center lights up for directional and brakes.

Hi, I did install those lights on my 2018 highlander, looks great works well, the only problem is the passenger side began going bad after three years, I believe the heat and exhaust fumes causes the element in the light to go bad.

Find the brightest RED portion of lamp, wire it to achieve the rear fog light.
Use a 3 pole (amber) LED switch, (or a dedicated rear fog switch complete with it's ISO RF symbol), find a suitable location for it to be fitted. (The switch LED is used as a required at law, 'pilot light', that lets the driver know the rear fog is 'on').
Mount the lamp per vid. Earth the lamp. Run a wire from the RED rear fog wire, up to the switch 'Acc' pole.
Earth the switch via it's Earth pole.
Take the power-feed for the rear fog lamp, from the cars sidelights/parking light circuit positive, to the remaining pole of the switch.
THIS gives you a rear fog light, with legally required switching independence,- from both headlights, front fog lights, and park lights. It will not ever, come on alone, but only if other vehicle lights are first activated by the driver AND you have switched on the dedicated rear fog lamp switch.
USE the rear fog light *only* under seriously reduced visibility conditions, say 100m or less, and not when your in a mere light mist. Switch it OFF, the moment visibility improves. (In France, Germany, a rear fog light may only be used when visibility is 50m or less, 100m in UK, this gives you an idea as to 'when').
Also ideal for daytime torrential rain when on the freeway; when driving through bushfire smoke; in heavy dust-storms and the like.
If you decide to wire one side of a rear fog light, (to reduce likelihood of following traffic mistaking twin rear fog lights as brake lights:- wire only the driver side lamp).
Note: By design, a rear fog lamp is brighter than brake lights, brighter than the hazard-warning lights, and of course, the regular - standard taillights.
A rear fog light must NOT be mounted less than 10cm/100mm from any brake light, so that the brake light function is not masked by the rear fog light itself.
In the US, SAE J1319 applies. It should be, in my view, incorporated as 'mandatory' for new market entry vehicles under FMVSS-108.

Now when you step on your brakes, the inner LED's light up and your parking lights and turn signals are still your outer ring.

So LEGALLY in Europe these lights ( the parking light function as you call it) are not supposed to come on at all unless conditions warrant; low visibility. In other words they should properly be connected to the fog lights or an extra separate switch and not come on anytime the runnning lights or parking lights are on. These things are unsafe if they are on all the time because they are too bright and will cause issues for people behind you on clear nights. I am not sure these are even legal in the US as you have them wired.

I think @trailblazer films need to make a follow up to this videos.. The center lenses should light up when you hit brakes!! You have the white plugs on yours but you didn't connected.. I got my and I am going to use the Court 56217 for the wiring.

@@TDA879 Hi, left outer light run lights with the black little box - black to white curt, white to brown curt, yellow to yellow curt.. leave red disconnect.. green curt is for L the break lights. If you lights also have the center B lights then use the curt G for L and the curt Y for the Right. The R side connect B to curt W, Red disconnected, white to curt brown & Yellow to curt G

Please do everyone behind you a big favor and Just Don’t. These lights are a strain on the eye and need to be outlawed. They almost never used as intended and left on by clueless or inconsiderate drivers during a clear night.
