    My recommendation is that when working with spring compressors;
    position yourself sideways to the strut, so if something goes wrong and the compression tool
    breaks, parts will shoot sideways from you, not at you. Yes, its happened to me, with a cheap compression tool. Fortunately, I don't trust compression tools, and I always use not one, but two pairs. The second pair held everything together, so nothing flew apart.
    The main reason I use 2 pairs is that I often can't get enough compression with just one pair. The second pair allows me to compress part way with the 1st pair, reposition the 2nd pair, compress further, and so on, back and forth
    . It works well, and doubles my safety factor.
    Good walk through on the task. Informative video on swapping springs.

    Thanks for the instructions on how to remove the front strut assemblies on a newer Highlander. I had to change out my front struts because one was seeping fluid on my 2015 Highlander XLE. I ran into trouble on the left stabilizer bar link, the nut would not come free and I stripped the T40 in the center of the bolt trying to work it free. I had to grind of the left stab bar link and go to Advanced Auto Parts to purchase a new one. Thankfully the right stab bar link came off with quite a bit of WD-40 help. Saved me around $700 in labor that a local shop quoted me.

    Good video. I was actually watching so I can do the opposite and lift it. Here are some thing to note:
    - The outermost nut at the top of the strut is different, so you have to make sure you put the right nut back on.
    - Use painters tape on the windshield to properly align the wipers when you re-install them.
    - Use Loctite on the screws so they don't come loose and torque down the nuts to factory specs.

    • @kchiker
      @kchiker 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JJBanuelos - Just two inches to give more ground clearance. Anything higher would create instability unless you modify it more. Essentially, placing spacers on top of the springs. Here's the instruction from one manufacturer. The instruction doesn't mention it, but you should use Loctite on all the nuts and bolts. Another good tip I found was to mark the nuts with a marker so you can quickly tell if any came loose. www.readylift.com/media/installation-pdfs/69-5421.pdf

    I always see people using those dangerous coil spring compressors. I have NEVER used them before but I have changed a ton of struts in my day. I have also installed lowering springs on more than a couple of different vehicles with struts and like I said, I have NEVER used coil spring compressors!!! There is a WAY FASTER, EASIER and MUCH SAFER way to change coil springs and/or struts!!! So, here is my pro-tip for changing springs and/or struts the fast, easy and safe way... So, to get started, you want to have your jack and jack stands ready to go and then you want to mark the spring location in the strut just as you did so that it all goes back together as it came apart. Now, open the hood and instead of loosening the 3 bolts at the top that hold your strut to the vehicle, you loosen the big nut (the actual strut rod itself) in the center that actually compresses the spring and holds the upper swivel plate to the strut assembly. Remove that but completely and then place your jack under the front of the vehicle on a good jacking point and slowly jack the front of the vehicle of the ground. At the same time while you're jacking the vehicle up you are also slowly and safely releasing the pressure of the spring. Once you jack the vehicle up far enough that the wheel comes off the ground then the tension is completely off of the spring. Place the jack stand under the frame of the vehicle in order to keep the wheel off the ground and lower the vehicle onto the jack stand. Now remove the two big bolts that hold the strut to the spindle and any other pieces that are connected to the strut such as the way bar and any brake lines as in the video. The strut and spring can now be easily removed and the spring swapped out for the new spring. Putting it all back together is just doing it all in reverse. Just be sure to get the spring properly lined up. Once the strut and new spring is bolted back on the spindle place the jack under the lower ball joint and jack up the control are assembly until the strut rod goes through the 3 bolt plate that is still mounted on the car. Once jacked up all the way the vehicle will start to lift off the jack stand. You will then replace and securely tighten he big but in the center of the 3 bolt mounting plate under the hood. Reattach all the parts that were taken loose from the strut under the wheel well and your job is pretty much complete. It's the only way I will do strut or spring replacements!!! Hope this wasn't too confusing and I also hope it helps someone out in the future!!!

    • @JJBanuelos
      @JJBanuelos  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes this is a way to do them but will not work on all cars. Strut designs car vary from car to car making it even more difficult to remove the strut on cars that have the strut slide into the knuckle. On these type of struts it will work I’ve seen it done the way but have also seen it fail this way also.

      I don't think you can lift it with springs. I have new Monroe s on the front and they have too high of a spring rate. The front is up 3-inches. The problem is the shock pounds/slams when the wheel goes down, meaning the spring is pulling the shock piston out the top.

      Nope used stock shocks. The lowering springs don’t affect the shocks much since they are not a drastic drop.

      I do not I have the factory 19’s still in there. If you did have a 20” wheel & you had to use the spare you could.

  • @UncleNutt

    If you can use the springs off a rx350 would that also mean you could use coilovers made for the rx350. Specifically BC coilovers makes a set for the rx350 then you have adjustability with ride height you can adjust dampening and you do t have to fight with spring compressors. Lol 🤷🏻‍♂️❓

    • @JJBanuelos
      @JJBanuelos  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh for sure, you definitely can do coilovers & honestly it’s prob the best route to go
