Andre the Giant, the actor who played Fezzick said that filming this movie was the happiness part of his life because everyone treated him like a fellow actor and not some giant freak.

My favorite bit I've learned is that the entire movie was finished filming except for the grandpa and grandson scenes. Fred Savage was sad and wanted to meet Andre as a wrestling fan. Andre went to set and spent all day with him and answered all his wrestling questions. Fred said Andre sent him a Christmas card every year until he passed and it was the one he looked forward to most.

Andre was an amazing human. He had an ornery side for sure but for the most part he was a sweet gentle giant. Side note Vince was always jealous this film was better and more well received than any of Hogans lol

@@glenncabacungan9269 Wikipedia says the film was shot in late 86 so I'm guessing he ripped the crucifix from Hogan right when he went back to work for the buildup to WrestleMania III.

@ Okay, yeah, I always knew the film was within a year of Mania III. How strange it must have been to one moment see Andre on the big screen as gentle Fezzik and the next moment turn your tv on to then WWF programming and see him yelling at Hogan “I’m challenging you for the world championship belt at the Wrestlemania.
And therefore I wonder how awkward it might have been for Fred to talk to Andre if it was after that infamous segment of Piper’s Pit.

Fezzig, Andre the Giant, was a famous wrestler. He was a very large man, and it took a LARGE amount of beer to get him drunk. Gallons of beer. And he loved beer.
Consequentially, it led to a seventeen second fart while filming that had the people in charge asking him if he was alright.
    His response?
    "I am now, boss."

Arnold Schwarzenegger tells a story about filming Conan the Barbarian with Andre. There was a night where they went out to dinner. If you went to dinner with Andre, Andre's rule was that Andre paid. Period. No exceptions. Arnold, being the star of the movie, felt that it was only right that HE paid for dinner, so he tried to sneak-pay for it. Andre caught him, lifted him up and sat him on, like, an 8-foot armoire.

The book was actually really great too and had a similar setup- The foreward talks about how the author's dad would read him this book whenever he was sick and how much he loved it, then when he was older he found the book and it was full of boring sections on history and the culture of the countries, but his dad would skip all that stuff. So this book was abridged to be 'just the good parts'. In truth it was an original work, but it gave such a good mindset for the story.
A more sad bit of trivia- The actor who played Inigo lost his dad not long before the filming of this movie and you can see the emotion whenever he talks of his father.
Finally loved to see what a fan you were of the genre, you can see it in a lot of the call outs you made. This just happened to be the movie that started a lot of the tropes.

During Covid Lockdowns there was a scene for scene recreation of the film with numerous big name Hollywood actors like Hugh Jackman, Jack Black, Pedro Pascal or Dave Bautista. Roles changed over the episodes because they were so many. And they all shot their parts in their homes. It has a very nice improvised feel to it. The proceeds went to some charity.
    My point being:
The original film's director's dad played Peter Falk's part of the grandpa for the final scene, with the director being in bed as the kid, saying his "as you wish" (and we know what that means) as his last ever recorded words before he died a short while after.
