    Hey guys! I appreciate the kind words and the valuable feedback! Mine is the image at 15 min. To address Lee and Elia's questions, this image was taken in a complete torrential downpour. I cannot post the out-of-camera shot here, but it looks very similar to the final. I brightened up the exposure a bit, and increased the saturation and contrast on the island. Everything else, the fog, rain, atmosphere was right place right time. f22, 1/4, ISO 100 at 73mm, Canon 6D, 24-105mm lens, plastic rain cover for cam.

      This image was great and it's very artistic, and the success of the image is that people keep guessing "how did he do it" - an emotion of curiosity, thanks for posting.

    Most of these photos was rated 1 star by people voting others down to win the tutorials. None of these shots were above four, while some of them definitely deserved a 4.5 if not a 5! :)

      it's not that, just so many people rate images poorly because they want their own images to stand out more. in their imaginations voting poorly on other images will somehow help them.

    • @tskwared667
      @tskwared667 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Veltto123 - I'm so bored of long exposure, naturally colored, wide angle, vertical shots with rocks in the foreground and a tree/waterfall/ocean in the back. Those all just look like basic wallpapers that come with your laptop. I prefer shots that use color and perspectives more creatively like the aerial view that Lee liked.

    • @TatzkaTube
      @TatzkaTube 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      tskwared667 Same here. It's extremely hard to stand out with those shots anymore inside a photography community. It's interesting to see where the photography trends are going to head next

    • @tskwared667
      @tskwared667 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Mare Vare - i don't own a drone, and that shot didn't have to be taken with one. It could easily have been taken from a higher ridge with a telephoto lens. I'm just saying I'm tired of the same old high-contrast, focus stacked, and 'technically' perfect windows desktop looking photos. They don't have any character to me, they just look like they belong in a motivational poster or a hanging on a hotel wall

    Thanks guys, shot at 27:00 is Český Krumlov as mentioned below. It's a handheld pano shot with a 50mm lens in the rain so not a planned shoot - I was just on holiday, not sure why it would be blurry as the full size image is very large and detailed (although is iso 6400 with noise reduction - Sony A7). Interesting points on colour possibly toning down the orange/yellows and tweaking wb, no HDR was used - I personally wanted the view right from the buildings on the left but can see how re positioning would work. Great pics overall and nice format for the video.

    15:14 I think thats a long exposure shot during rain, you can see the textures in the water thats why it looks like its blured but its not acutally. One of the best shots in this critique

    The guy on the right what's he on , in the abstract image thats obviously in water not snow he said he would like to see blue in the image if its water . Since it is a grey sky and water refects what's going on in the sky I doubt you would see blue in it . Not sure if this guy should be reviewing images ;-) .

    The shot with the lava . Did you find out if it was two exposures? Very interesting piece. I see a flag behind the runner making me feel that it could have been some sort of marathon. I don't think they would set up a marathon run next to an active volcano. That would be some harsh sulfur to be breathing in.

    It was nice having Elia chime-in on Critique the Community. I remember when you had one of his images in your past episodes, and it didn't do that well. :) Case-in-point that there are no firm rules and these ratings are totally subjective. Still fun. Oh yeah, the Dell XPS 4K has a higher resolution display than the MacBook Pro Retina display - just saying since Elia was complaining.

    The island shot is fog or smoke everywhere, and the water is reflecting the fog/smoke color. I saw a scene somewhat similar and my passenger wouldn't let me stop and take a photo. It was probably the best most unique photo opportunity I've ever seen and I missed it.

  • @SnapVision812

    It seems that the journey to recognition as a landscape photographer involves visiting a series of canonical places. This reviews shows locations like Venice, Bromo, Norway, Iceland, and the Czech Republic for example. It's a bit like a global quest. I've been to the place in Bromo where the photograph was taken, and they have built a viewing platform. The same with Padar Island in Komodo resort. So does this mean that for these global hotspots, composition is irrelevant, and the differentiation comes from technical differences like compositing, time lapse, focus blending and time blending?

    • @ekredel
      @ekredel 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      it is not just the composition that is irrelevant. the images are irrelevent as well. they are all the same, chocolate-box cover images. people seem to have, on average, lost the courage to try something different. they will watch the tutorials of photographing a location, go there and just repeat the same image everybody takes. i bet there are tripod marks in the ground on those locations and you can just put your tripod in the exact same spot as all the photographers before you. the problem however is the community that consumes those images that will give thousands of likes to such an (empty and devoid of any emotion or thought put into it) image and give 5 likes to an image they don’t understand. everything has to be obvious, we will not even try to see if there is anything in it beyond the obvious. these currently popular landscape types of images are great for commercial work imho (websites of those locations, hanging on walls in hotels etc.). art they are not. creative they are not.

    • @SnapVision812
      @SnapVision812 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah. I'm not sure that we are experiencing the slow death of landscape photography mind you. Some of those shots, the lake, the island in the rain, the fire and the helicopter certainly break out of the chocolate box. www.theguardian.com/environment/gallery/2018/may/16/gdt-nature-photographer-of-the-year-2018-in-pictures gives me some food for thought...not strictly landscapes though, and I don't understand why the winner was considered such a strong image.

    I’m a bit suprised you are critical about the sharpness in some pictures. As long as it’s in focus I don’t really mind the resolution. There are really great pictures that are not high res or even analogue but if the subject is interesting and the mood is there, I don’t see how more pixels make it better. Unless it’s supposed to be displayed really big on a wall ofc

  • @arwo1143

    The 4th? Picture with the running dude and the lava is a composite...
    Some one the lava has motion blur and the runner doesn’t
    So those 2 parts are not taken with the same shutter speed

    • @jonathanknight8702
      @jonathanknight8702 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not true. If his foot was solidly on the ground he would be in "stasis" and not moving that quickly. Also, the lava is probably exploding faster than the runner. if he shot it at 1/300 or 1/500 it's very possible the lava was faster but the runner was frozen.

    That helicopter/forest fire image could have easily been a 5/5 if the colors just weren't so over-tweaked. It's really easy to go overboard with things like contrast, hues and saturation. If the colors looked a bit more natural, this would make a great portfolio piece.

    I loved the image of mountain with lenticular cloud, probably image no.4, but Elia didn't !
    It would be interesting if this same image is processed by Elia from RAW and we see it coming to best potential, as for me it can be a 5* if processed properly and some empty sky from the top is trimmed.FS Please do it.

    Guys will you pass from Greece on this "tutorial"?? You left Meteora for a long time (Elia knows that place very well!)

      Alexios Pappas we were going to include Greece this time around but wound up with too many lessons to include Greece in 4. We might have something very different planned for Greece so stay tuned

    Guys, I bet your tutorials are really good if you give these pictures so low ratings. Looking forward for more.

      Roman Fierce I agree. I am new to this channel but with critiques like these their tutorials and work must be stellar.

    Listen Guys i think first shot it might be a composite. some parts of the shot are longer exposure then others. like the water bubles in the center of the shot are to white and creamy showing to much motionblur like milk but the water in buttom of the shot is short exposure showing bubles.
    also the water droping from the big rock is long exposure like 3 4seconds cuz it formed white milky lines. and we all know long exposure waterfalls look like that.
    but the splash behind the rock is like 50/1 sec or something like that. enough to almost stop motion
    so to much for that rating for that.
    IT FAKE. i can do that in my aquarium
