Last week I visited Cleveleys Beach to take a few Landscape pictures with the intention of adding them to my website and sell them. Cleveleys is part of the Fylde Coast, North West UK coastline 10-minutes away from Blackpool.
I wanted to include Mary's Shell in the image. Mary's Shell is a public art piece.
The sea level was favourable as the tide was fully in which is exactly what I wanted. A full tide renders the lower part of the shell in the sea, just perfect. The weather wasn't particularly brilliant but as long as there are the clouds in the sky there is always a picture to be had!
I have also included my post-processing workflow to the video too. This way you can see how I create pictures that sell from start to finish.
    COMMENTS always welcome
    THANK YOU

FINALLY a channel from an experienced guy who does realistic videos that isnt too much click bait ( I would love to see how to sell your images. What channels you put them on etc, and how you price them. You mentioned you put them on your website, but how do you get people over there?)
No fancy pansy guys with over enthusiastic "WHATS UP GUYS!!!" bunch of nonsense.

      @@GaryGough that's nice of you. I subscribed!
I recently got myself a Sony a7iii and a lens for cheapo.
I used to have an old nikon d60, and I have to say it's way more fun now. The images I get is just amazing compared to the old nikon. So much information from the full frame.
Still have tons of practice I need, but I would love to able to sell a lucky shot if I make one. Even it's a dollar or 10 I don't mind. But the feeling that someone would pay something for my photos would be amazing :)
Keep up the high quality videos.
So far I like them a lot.

Two things have blown me away regarding this video. 1. The quality, info and craftsmanship/artmanship (not a word I know but I just claimed it) of producing the end product. Truly amazing! 2. Why there are so many not likes? What is there not to like. It's a great class. Nice job Gary. I'm a fan.

Its easy for everyone to believe that everything has been shot or taken before you. So what the need to take the shot again. But photography is about that. Mimicking a shot of another picture or photographer to help find your place in the art, in the field, in the world of photography, the aim is to give you the ability to take it to the next level, in evolution of photography, evolution of yourself, its your photo, of that shot that someone thought of, that bring you to their same wave length.
all eyes are different, but are still just eyes.
all pictures are different but are still just pictures.
A camera's role is to act as bridges between the eyes, the pictures and the minds. fine art achieve this goal.

Not at all Andy. I can still remember when LR was the product you bought if you couldn't afford or justify the cost. In fact, when people ask me why I use PS and not LR I always reply because I'm a professional. Hope that doesn't offend :)

    • @AndyAstbury
      @AndyAstbury 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Gary - been doing this for a living for 40 years now so I'm in the same mid as you! But I use Lightroom because I teach folk, so I have to! But Lr is the same as ACR in my eyes - do a few small global things then move the image to Ps for the localised stuff. Photoshop is the king for image processing - it's nice to know I'm not alone!!!!

Hi Gary, Thanks for this video. I have a definition of fine art photography, and it is this: If you see a photograph and you just have to buy it to hang it on your wall because it creates an impact in your soul and you know you will enjoy it everytime your eyes fall on it then you have found something which causes the viewer to linger and take the time to comprehend it, it then, is fine art.

Hi Gary, I'm a hugh fan of b&w imagery but in this case it's colour all the way for me. Both look fantastic. Great end result. Thanks a million for sharing.

Hey Gary, you are a photoshop ninja....!! I’m a Lightroom guy only because photoshop is so hard work and daunting to dive into. It’s not exactly “user friendly”. It reminds me of the old days where a program actually had a template that you put on a keyboard to use the shortcuts (WordPerfect 5 for any other old farts out there, lol). But like all things, the more you use, the easier it gets.... I’m actually on Brendan Van Son workshop in Crete right now and it’s awesome... this guy is incredible!! He’s lived it, dreamed it, and is realising it! I genuinely think that people like him and you (and TH) don’t see the world in the same way anymore... you see life as compositions, light and “fine art”, I for one, is glad you do, so I / we can learn so much!! Cheers bud..!! Jase

Oh that's cool Jason. He won't know me, but please pass on my regards. I like him too. It's great to see somebody so determined to get out there and live life as they want to! Glad you liked my video and thank you for your kind words.

God - Gimp looks just as intimidating when you open it up for the first time, as does PS. It's really just about getting stuck in and learn in bite-size portions.

Thoroughly enjoyed the video. I also like your definition of art. I’ve just read your blurb - I thought it was the Fylde coast and I was right. I lived in Blackpool for 30yrs, left in 2013, so they must have located Mary’s Shell after I left or thereabouts. Great piece of sculpture and great image created of it.

Great video. It reinforced much of what I already knew but the use of the marquee to move one part of the image to another as an alternative to cloning and healing is a revelation as well as the transform tool used at the bottom edge instead of cropping out unwanted distractions and thus allowing you to maintain the chosen dimensions of the image is a revelation. Thank you for an informative lesson.

This is what I call Fine Art Photography, a great example and quite minimalist which I love. I just found and enjoyed your video about the pilgrims walk, which led me to this one. I really appreciate the insights into your processing method too. But I can’t resist pointing out something that drives me crazy these days; so many people misquoting that old proverb about the pudding. Correct saying is: “The proof of the pudding is in the eating”. 😊

Loved that Gary. I picked up a few pointers on using Ps which I'll try in the near future. My preference was for the version of the main picture where there was the blue in the sky. Much the same as I liked the colour version of the wreck at Lytham. You might want to have a go at the riverside wrecks at Fleetwood. Quickest way to find them is to make for ASDA roundabout and across the other side of the road is a MacDonalds burger joint. Walk down that road keeping McD's to your right towards some new build housing on the other side of some lock gates. On the other side of the new builds is the river bank. The nearest wreck is just to the left hidden by a dune. The other wrecks are a couple of hundred yards to the right. Be sure to wear stout wellies or boots, its very slippy most of the time. Fortunately I had my Olympus Pro gear when I went face down in the mud. The camera washed up nicely, my jeans didn't. Enjoy! 😉

Spending those few extra minutes or hours to get that 1 shot, makes everything worth it. Finally found someone that like myself, prefers minimal tweaking to any picture rather than slap a bunch of presets or filters to create an effect that was never there to begin with. As you say Fine Art Photography is a very thin line, everybody can produce stunning effects with software but where does it stop from crossing that line between creative photography and an artistic image piece?

I use Lightroom for cataloguing and faster load time, before exporting to Photoshop for final touches. With tens of thousands of photos, trying to keep them all organized in folders would be a logistical nightmare.
