    This took me for a loop.Ford decided to put the fill plug for the transmission at the bottom. To check, remove the plug. The fluid level is determined by whether fluid runs out once you remove the plug. To fill the unit you must pump fluid up into the transmission. Once fluid starts run out of the hole, it's full.

      That's what I hate about those years. Both Explorers I owned had the dip stick. I think they started with that check plug around 2000. They were nice trucks. I bought a 92 Eddie Bower Edition and a 95 Limited Edition. The transmission on the 90 to 94 is more reliable then the 95 to 05. Ford should have recalled those years. I had about 160,000 miles on the 95 when the overdrive went out and was stuck in limp mode until I replaced it with a reconditioned transmission.

    Randy. Buy the escort and transform it into a wild off road buggy. Little roll cage harness style belts. You’d make a fortune off it !!

    Ask Copart if they will donate the Escort to you. It would be fun to watch you try to start a diesel. Also if you do get it running, pull the engine and transmission before you junk it. Somebody out there needs that engine.

    Randy, that Explorer is in great shape. For the price, I’ll get it and have the transmission rebuilt. These don’t have transmission dip sticks. These are also the last years before Ford started cramming the Sync systems into them.

    Randy, that Olds does have potential. As I say to you always. Put the Randy touch on it and send it down the road. People need affordable (no f-ing car payments) cars!!! Your keeping that alive. I saw a comment from a viewer that they too love old junkers but I bet a lot of your viewers feel the same way we do. I definitely couldn’t see a dipstick on the Ford. That’s weird because I bet my bottom dollar that maybe all it needs is trans fluid. How crazy would that be. I’m hoping you get it for a steal and you get it moving!!! 🤞👍😁

      @christopherhamilton5557 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@JOHNJ0HN9111 maybe an LKQ replacement? Also, it may not need rebuild or replacement based on the fact that it wouldn’t move at all. It may be something else entirely. Seems like a good candidate to take a chance on, given that it was going for 400 bucks I think? I know here in North Carolina that vehicle would probably sell for $4500 if it was sorted.

    I'm a certified extraction specialist , been volunteering for 22 years now. We call pushing the dashboard up "rolling the dash" the cutters cut the relief points and then we use rams to push it up. There is also another method using the combination tool to cut relief points, bend it out of the way, jam it in the hole, then use it like backwards scissors to roll it up. It always depends on how badly a victim is pinned. The rams offer much more movement, but takes longer. Check out some jaws of life videos, you'll love to see how fast we do that to a car.

    The knock in the Hyundai steering wheel is the rubber bushing in the shaft that has deteriorated. It's a known issue and is a $3 part. Dropping the steering column reveals the electric steering box where the bushing is. It is only annoying and not a safety issue. I replaced one for a friend of mine and took about three hours. I could do a second one in probably half the time.

    • @postersm7141
      @postersm7141 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I disagree it is a safety issue. I had a brand new 2013 They develop the same issue and the steering wheel when I actually lock dead center. It looked like I was going down the road drunk because I was fighting the bushing. I know what you’re saying but it is definitely a safety issue

    I really love the way you think. I know this comment may not ever be read by you because of it being 3 months late. However, as much as that little Ford Escort is cute and tempting to take home with you, getting that back into pristine condition would probably require a donor car that you can use the body, frame, doors, interior, hood, grill, fenders, suspension, wheels and glass. Maybe the engine and transmission is salvageable if it runs. Believe it or not I did something like that way back with a Honda Accord. I was driving on a mountain road and swerved to avoid hitting an Elk. The car dug into the soft shoulder and it flipped over. It was totaled but it ran so good I saved the engine, transmission and interior and bought a Honda from a wrecking yard with no engine or transmission and most of the interior was removed. It had a very good body and the paint was actually in great shape. The paint on the one that flipped was faded and the clear coat was coming off. The finished car looked great and ran great. It was worth the effort to save the car. It was a 91 Honda Accord and it happened in1998 so it was less the 10 years old.

    Those Explorers don’t have dipsticks. They have trans issues. Mine had some servo issues, bought a special kit from a company for fixing that issue, replaced it and it works great. The issues that the 4.0L has is the timing guides will break on the back side of the motor. Then you have to pull the motor out to replace it. Other than those things, mine has been a great car. Mine has just over 180k miles and it has never left me stranded. I Have not yet had timing chain guide issues but when I do have them, I will be doing a full rebuild.

    The Oldsmobile Alero is the winner of the video! Early 2000s GM were the last "good" GM cars before GM quality pooped the bed during the Recession. It's such a damn shame on the Escort. Maybe it was used as an introduction to accident response, but a GMC Yukon, Honda CRV, or a F-150 would've been a more realistic simulation!

    I've been working at a body shop for a bit now and extra tips I learned was if you're painting the door, it's better to take off the mirror and belt molding (the trim at the bottom of the window) for a better paint job in the end. The mirror can get in the way, and if you're unlucky, the clear coat could stick in that gap between the door and the belt molding.

    31:15 speaking as a Walmart Auto Care Center technician, the date on our stickers is actually the due date of the NEXT oil change, so judging from the date that was printed, more than likely it was changed on February 12th, 2020 which was a month before the nation wide Auto Care Center shutdown happened on March 19th, 2020 because of COVID-19. Most shops were down for 6-9 months, with a very gradual reopening starting in may, and continuing all the way to December 2020 (my store’s shop reopened in October; and it was preceded by a week of working on associate vehicles)

    The explorer is nice and could get a good trans quickly and cheaply for it. It is a sealed 5 speed trans there's a fill plug in the pan to check the fluid.
    You warm up the car then pull the plug and if it trickles out it has the right amount of fluid

    So with the explorer, you are right, the 3rd gens (this style) do not have trans dip sticks, I’ve never heard of a valve dropping issue out of either of the engines available, however the v6 did have the timing chain issues which is probably what you’re thinking of, but that was uncommon for engines after 03, they were updated and fixed by then. That one sounds like it could use a new chain tensioner (50 dollar screw in part that caused the quick startup rattle) but they’re hydraulic so if the truck hasn’t ran in a while, that may be fine as well. The trans (5r55) are known to go bad, and will set you back a max of 2500 bucks which ain’t too bad especially with a truck that clean and healthy otherwise. The trans on my explorer also ate the dust at 209k, which I think is acceptable enough, and my truck was so good to me otherwise prior to that that I decided to go ahead and get the trans rebuilt on mine personally. Good trucks, just with one weak point (the trans). But if you drive it modestly, you’ll still get 200k out of one on original fluid

    @22:43 - I had an identical Alero that I also drove into a guardrail. I wasn't drinking though. A water bottle was stuck under the front of my seat and was preventing it from latching properly. I pulled it out and I guess it caught the handle causing my seat to abruptly slide backward. When it did, I jerked the wheel causing the car to skim the guardrail pretty hard. The police officer, tow-truck driver, and the body shop all had a great laugh.

      I have one too with the v8 and 225k, absolutely love it, my trans went at 209k, the torque converters fail. I got mine rebuilt for 2500 though because of how good my truck has been up until then. Totally worth the trans rebuild, I upgraded my converter to a heavy duty one too so now hopefully she’s good for another 300k. V6s weren’t bad but when you get one with the 4.6, it’s one hell of a truck

    That noise in the Elantra steering is an easy fix. It's a rubber flex coupling between the steering column and electric power steering motor

    10 Elantra is just the coupling joint in the column. Easy fix. Called a rag joint
