13:40 Standing in the companionway.. I saw a neat idea where a sailing couple rigged up a chair-hammock across/inside the companionway so they could chill in that same position, while sailing on easy angles, and relax looking aft, protected under the dodger. Amazing how staring at the sea always feels fresh.
Finally watching these last two eps. And I feel the same way you do every time I leave there too. Glad we share the same outlooks on life mate. Life is beautiful out there 😊
Thanks Vernon. Thank you for your extraordinary footage of that wonderful country so close and yet so unknown and underappreciated by most Australians. Hope to bump in to you on the QLD coast as we come up and you come down.
Oh my word!!!! What a scenery! The sunset is amazing and the sound of the waves along with the spectacular skies. This is heaven!!!! I do totally agree with you! There are so many things that may annoy us when travelling through countries that may appear too relaxed, but they do not have all the services and amenities we have and are used to, so they get by with whatever they have; they just make the most of it. Just like your ghetto coffee!!! I am a “coffeeholic”, but if push comes to shove, I’d get by with anything. It would not stress me out to drink a differently made coffee, as long as it does the trick. Anyway, thank you so much for this awesome video. I wish I was there too instead of running the rat race!! Keep up the awesome work you do. 👍👍👍
Four years sailing around Indonesia... Now that was a serious trip! I wish I had caught onto it from the beginning because it has been fantastic to follow. Selamat tinggal Indonesia.
yeah mate, time flew by though and I reckon I could do another 4 and still have plenty of new stuff to see. Every Island is like a new country nearly. Loved it. Hope you'll go back when you have some spare time and watch some of the older videos.
You made me laugh so much with your absolute comment about Bintang beer and getto coffee, througly enjoyed it. Definately would like to skill share / barter if you could share sailing lessons. Let me know how I could get in touch. Lee (from Singapore)
Always enjoyable viewing mate , looking forward to the next episode understand what you are saying about the people felt the same way after spending time in Sth East Asia
Nice episode Vern! Can imagine the mixed emotions leaving Indo. You´ve seen more than most however and your videos will alway be a great memory. What a contrast going back to Oz eh! Might make it down that way and say hi at some stage. Safe voyage bro
Your ghetto coffee, is how I have mine when I drink it, minus the ginger and milk powder, I will have to try it with the ginger. Tastes better than you would expect, makes it hard to justify paying barista prices. Resonated with your reasoning on what you enjoyed and found frustrating in the four years in Indonesia.
I thought you were taking a lot on with this trip. We did it the other way in the 70s. Across the top of Oz to Darwin then Bali was great. The sea life was fantastic. However going up through the Great Barrier Reef even with the trades was quite hard. We had no self steering or GPS of course and could only sail during the day. It looks like you are off to a great start. Long may it continue.
Hi Paul, there would have been a lot less plastic floating around back in the 70's. I've sailed up the east coast a few times and loved the favourable winds. This trip south is less enjoyable.
@@SailingLearningByDoing Yes, I worked in East Java for 2 years about 2012. I really enjoyed it but the attitude to dumping rubbish in waterways did my head in. We were building state of the art carbon fibre patrol Boats including a 65 m missile wave piercing trimaran. Check out KRI Golok 688.
Why are yu solo? This is first time I saw your video. I’m learning by doing myself. Taking ASA 101 Basic Keel end of May. Bought a 27ft sailboat, a Catalina. Looking forward to adventures here in Northwest Puget Sound. Hope I can be a great sailor.
Vernon my friend, please tell me Marie doesn't let you make coffee like that when she's on board. :) I can appreciate the desire for minimalism but please get yourself a hand burr grinder, an aeropress, and a bag of beans. It's really no effort at all for a massively upgraded experience, especially for something you do every day. I promise it won't take 20 minutes, more like 5. I'll be looking forward to the Coffee Update video.
Haha, she even makes me ghetto coffee now, took a while before she could make it just how I like it though. I've had a small hand grinder and aero press onboard for years, just never use it. Dont knock it till youve tried it.
Where is your tiller or wheel, Why are you not using your wind vane. Do you use an autopilot attached to the rudder quadrant. Sorry for the questions. I'm new at sailing
If you look closer you'll see the tiller folded up at the back of the cockpit. I use autopilot 90% of the time and yes, its a linear drive connected directly to the rudder post.
@@stayfree6115 I love the tiller, prefer it over a wheel on a boat under 50ft. Makes the cockpit much more open and gives a much better feeling while sailing
I think you must be doing it wrong mate.... you are just sailing from place to place without any drama at all. You just figured out where you watnted to go and sailed ther. You diddnt even remember to have propeller issues and drift for days. I was under the impression that all sorts of drama constantly wreak havoc with cruising sailboats on TH-cam. Well done, fantastic sailing. Best regards from Jarle
Another great video, looks like you had a smooth crossing. With your coffee and kettle, didn't you have an electric kettle running off the batteries a white ago? Is that not working now?
If it works, it's free energy from the sun so it's got to be better. Have you thought about a solar cooker? Seen a few people use them with good results, cooking by the sun would be good too. Cheers, Paul.
That's great, look forward to seeing those videos. If you only need to slow cook stuff I have seen home made cookers with aluminium foil and bits painted black to absorb the sunlight. Would be hot enough where you are, no chance here in the UK! Good luck.
It's a shame as you have dialled content .well done .your Solomon's were the best I think .place I never sailed .mate I'm a real kiwi 3 spoons of instant ,cold water .what's with this 40 degrees out and put the Kettle on lol yes in past life I have owned coffee roasting business!
I think you will get sick of Australia in no time, its such an expensive place to live. Yep quality services but it forces us to work full time to afford these services with little time to ourselves, unless you are wealthy of course.
I've spent plenty of time in Australia. Like most western countries the hunger for more possessions has taken a firm hold and sort of dictates life for most people. A bit sad but it doesn't mean We have to live that way when we come here. Australia has a huge amount going for it and I'm sure Marie is going to enjoy exploring the east coast with me.
nothing wrong with the coffee per se, but putting that cold water first...... thats akin to putting milk first , then the tea. blasphemous mate, bloody blasphemous
Any coffee is good.

I love coffee on board thankyou mate
Granted ginger in my green, black, peppermint, and chamomile tea, your not alone.
Love you channel
Oh yea, coffee to !
aha, see. Like your style
Great work solo and although you will be thinking it is a boring episode, it was anything but. Thanks for sharing the journey.
My pleasure and glad you was interesting. Theres about 4 more of these coming.
Great look back on your time in Indo. You've got a great outlook on life and living it. I like cowboy coffee, no creamora, just straight up!
Right on man

Yep, its all experience. amazing times had
aka turkish coffee.. nothing wrong with that (apart from the milk powder)
Do you have any video about your navigation set-up in your boat mate love to see 😊 🙏 thankyou.
Not really a specific video about that no, plenty of times I talk about it in videos though
I stand in the companion way most of the time
Best place. The clears on my dodger are super milky though so I cant see anything. Getting them replaced is on my jobs list.

Hello to you again , another GREAT ONE !!....Captain can you recommend places to buy a sailboat in Indonesia !?
Thanks. Not many sailboats for sail in Indonesia. You could try calling Marina Del Ray or Medana Bay marina, they might know of some boats for sale
Haha You could print 'ghetto coffee roastery' on tshirts and sell em
HAha, that would be a good one

For sure doing it wrong mate, there's no views on TH-cam stardom to be had without some catastrophe or controversy.
Another great video, looks like you had a smooth crossing. With your coffee and kettle, didn't you have an electric kettle running off the batteries a white ago? Is that not working now?
Yes I did but it rusted out pretty fast. My batteries wouldn't take it now but soon I'll be upgrading to Lithium then I'll look for an electric kettle

That ghetto coffee segment summarizes perfectly why I love this channel: no up-your-own-hole pretentiousness 😀 Legend!
I appreciate that!
Ghetto coffee from a chipped mug, Starbucks eat ya heart out.

You’re right Vern. That coffee looks disgusting. But I’d know I’d prefer that coffee on that boat to my coffee in my shitty house
haha, all about perspective
