That's actually pretty nifty.
Every time I have to mess with the joby pod I see red and have to hold back throwing it out the window.
This is so much better than the Gorillapod, just the size of it makes it worth it for me!

PGYTECH has been quietly doing their thing for a few years now. This is an awesome looking product that actually innovates in a segment that has been stagnant for years. I think this is why the Switchpod did so well, purely because it was something different. I never personally liked the Switch that much and despite my many frustrations, have kept falling back to the Joby Focus (which is really the only one worth using - the smaller ones fall apart after a year or so of use). Given the innovation and solid build of the Mantis I think the price tag is fair and have ordered one. Thanks for the review Pete!
Please be aware PGYTech have quality control issues, my MantisPod Pro doesn't lock into position it rattles/wobbles it's very annoying specially if I'm going to vlog all my videos will have a shake to it when I move which I definitely don't want.
I agree! I had the same problem then returned it to amazon. Also the tilt lock screw on the side of cold shoe mount coming loose when using is horrible.
At the beginning of the video it looks that the camera no the trípod is Shaky Shaky Shaky

Great looking mini tripod, 150 is a bit angry but it is cool
I got my tripod and i found two problems i am not sure if you got it on your tripod, First is Quick plate. Every time i use it with all the legs fold and walk i feel like my camera will fall. Quick plate wiggles in the base. Second Problems is when i set my camera on ground with this legs opens 7:23 . It cannot securely stand because the stand got no perfect flat surface under the legs to stand, So i always keep my camera low to ground.
it looks good until you start using it in real life. The legs are very unstable - I cannot trust this thing with my expensive camera.
Has anyone actually ordered and received one of these yet? I've heard they are still taking "pre-orders" only. I'm wondering when to expect shipment if I actually purchase one.

I got mine today but the part where it all comes together is super loose so I’m gutted. Been waiting for months. It arrives and effectively broken.

@@lawnporn hey how did this end up going? I just got mine yesterday and the part with the big button to modify angle and such, rocks back and forth (even when locked). Not a ton, but it wobbles when I move the tripod around.

The website only shows this with smaller camera will it hold canon r6 and r5 with heavier lens?

Hmm.. for me.. seems like a lot of moving parts. I think the beauty in the gorillapod’s are their simple designs that just work, always. Can you wrap that onto a pole, or tree? Don’t think so 😉 this tripod has much more limited use than a JOBY. Just my initial two cents, would love to try one though!

Mantis mode is so cool, but man I would be so scared to hang my a7siii from something LOL I really like the look and feel of this tripod. I saw another video on one last night as well. Very cool. Very tempting, I just don't really vlog too much. Great job as always Peter!

Great video! I own the “non-pro” version without the ball-head.
The reason for my choice is because I also have a “TinyRig”. It clips onto the top of the MantisPod and gives me an “arm” or lever, and has fluid motion left, right, up and down for very smooth, professional movement. I love this mini tripod.
It is a little expensive, but always remember to never sacrifice when buying supporting gear for your photography and video shooting uses.
Wish the mantis legs were on the 2 legs instead of one but otherwise a fantastic looking tripod!
Looks like a handy tripod! The only thing I would add to it would be some kind of arm strap. With my luck, I am bound to get butterfingers and drop my camera. Having that strap would prevent that from happening.

Does the PGY plate fit into the Peak Design Capture? Or does the Peak Design plate fit into this tripod?
Peak design should fit into this one, but not the other way around (the capture clip uses special grooves). The PGYtech plate has that special nonslip feature though so depending on which is more important to you will impact which convenience feature you value more.
I'm curious since it is fairly similar to the Sony bluetooth grip. Does it have any "play" to it that allows the camera to slightly jiggle? That's why I stopped using the Sony grip. Great review though!
I feel jiggle and I hate it. I don't know if its only for my unit or for all. I always hate when that is not known because you are forced to try a lot of units when I need answers

It's definitely really handy! Like a swiss army knife tripod. I've been waiting for something to come along and replace the gorilla pod.
So far the company seems a bit scummy. They show to have them in stock but don’t actually have or ship them. It’s been over a month with no update or response.

@@Donbros yep just a tiny bit, it's a bit annoying but tbh not the end of the world if you're vlogging as you can stabilise in post. I like the flexibility of this mini tripod, so normally I travel with this one and the PeakDesign (but it's huge compared to this one)
I'll take my Gorilla Pod over this any day of the week. So much more Versatile and can adapt to any situation. How do you wrap yours around a pole? A Side view mirror? Off your motorcycle? The list goes on. While very nice, it reminds me of the iFootage Monopod Feet that you can remove and I love using as small tripod. While this MantisPod is much better than that as it has more features, but it's nowhere near the Gorilla in my opinion. Agree to disagree :)

You know it is way more convenient to simply use a Gorilla Pod that’s basically the same size and still no tripod can beat it yet
I bought this tripod using your link after watching this video. I got my order confirmation & the money left my bank account, but the tripod didnt arrive. I contacted PGY to inquire about the delay. They explained that the tripod is still in “pre order” and they havent produced the tripod yet. I didnt see any indication on their website during the order process that indicated that it was a “pre-order.”
That was shady of the company. But the order is done, so i am excited to get the tripod… someday…
Received mine (the Pro version) last week and tested it briefly. What struck me: neat stylish packaging, which reminded me of the unboxing experience of Apple products. But that box... well, we throw it away anyway, so we'd rather have a look at the thing itself: indeed a lot of functionality. Maybe even a bit too much, because you really have to look for the right buttons and movements to set the tripod the way you want. Some movements are only possible after other adjustments are finished. The most important part of a "tripod" is the "pods" and I don't find it very useful to unfold them (it's an uncommon mix of spreading and twisting). Quickly putting my camera away on these sticks doesn't really give me confidence. The high setting is quite high and the low is actually very low. Those two extremes could have been less, which would benefit stability and handling. I hope to get some more experience in the next weeks and months of use.

Very innovative tripod. I use the SwitchPod right now and this makes me think about changing my go to handheld tripod.

@@PeterLindgren1 I love the SwitchPod. The ergonomics is great. My only gripe about it is adjusting the camera position. You attach a traditional ball head to it. I came from the Manfrotto Pixi Mini when I had my a6400 and I love the quick release feature of the Pixi Mini's ballhead. Unfortunately, my A7siii is too heavy for the Pixi Mini. This Mantis Pod really looks enticing. Angled design when held for vlogging. Can hold a full frame camera. Quick release mechanism to adjust position of camera. ✅✅✅
