    speaking of small tripods in the 60 dollar range, just got the smallrig vt-20 which packs up to be tiny for its size! it also manages to carry the weight of my a7iv and tamron 70-180, really impressive for all that it can do. definitely recommend you check it out!

    TT38 is $27 here in China, Mantispod $3 cheaper now, if you look a little. So prices have room downward. Close to 400 grams for a mini tripod is no joke. Very nice comparison, as always !

    Mark, You forgot about one big thing in PGY Mantis 2.0 - the optional mountable, magnetic remote!
    I personally use a sort of Frankenstein setup for travel photos-a ball head from PGY Mantis 2.0 on top of Ulanzi MT-28 mini carbon tripod. This way, I have an extremely light, durable, super compact, and flexible setup that can easily hold my Tamron 50-400 paired with A7C. Yes, I can have low shots only, but the additional reach of these tripod legs (especially in low position) gives me way more security than any other tripod in this size range.
    Also, what you pointed out as a drawback of the PGY 2.0 ball head I consider as an advantage - I can easily mount this heavy lens proprietary arca style long mounting plate, directly on the ball head without an additional system plate (due to the semi-open design). The locking system gives additional security, and a small pin on top of this ball head makes sure that the plate will not slip away even when it is not locked. BTW - you don't need to pull the lever to mount the camera/lens on it - it also clicks when pressed...

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      you’re right about the clicking!! I never pressed hard enough all this time 🤣🤣 what a meatball I am. I did mention the variations including the remote at the end for an extra cost. the plate won’t slip all the any out with the pin yes, but it can still move in the base when not locked. I don’t want the camera being able to move at all so I lock it.

    Do you often find things to hang your camera on? - I thought I would use this but never have in the real world on the MantisPod, so I got the MT-47 (arca swiss) and find the extension far more useful, you can get the appropriate height for talking head on the road, you can get a much nicer composition for vlog style, or even just a selfie photo, and it's very compact, even fits in a 3l sling.

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      it’s good logic for sure. I think the extension is more useful than the mantis lever. I find I use the lever on car windows instead of putting the camera on the car roof, but I don’t use it a ton. I find the tt38 with the quick release and angled grip is quite useful when vlogging.

    I would really like to see them design one that sort of slips like an arm strap so you could just walk with your arm out that sits on your arm the way we carried them is kinda awkward. It doesn't make any sense. I really think we need to to put some thought into Vlogging cameras and how we carry them.

  • @Kev-In-Motion
    @Kev-In-Motion 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Does the newer mounting plate on the Ulanzi TT38 have an anti-loosening feature like the PGYTech mounting plate? That’s too bad the old F38 style mounting plate doesn’t work with the TT38.

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I think I might have confused you a little. The f38 works with TT38 - that's what I used the whole time in the video. The new UKA plate doesn't fit into the f38 tripods except the treeroot. The New UKA plate has the same type of antislip washer as the PGYTECH

Whereas the Ulanzi MT-46 you recommended before has served me well so far. I'm curious now about the TT38 but the weight could be a deal breaker. I'm sorry to say that Mark, but I feel this review a little bit biased...
    I own and use the MantisPod V1 (pro version) for years now, the one you completely seem to ignore...
    The MantisPod 2.0 was a downgrade already, less versatility, less adaptability and this New Ulanzi seems like another downgrade again 🤷🏽‍♂
    1/ The ball head was already panning on the V1
    2/ The microphone ring can rotate without unscrewing (don't know about the 2.0, but V1 for sure)
    3/ The "neck" of the Ulanzi cannot tilt, this is a HUGE drawback... Especially in "hanging mode".
    4/ The legs have only 2 position: open or closed. So that means only 1 height, only one footprint and a lot of compromise for stability...
    5/ The plate system of the PGYTech can move if not locked, which is a good thing if you might use heavy lens, so you can balance the weight better, but there is a safety pin that you don't talk about, that will never let your camera falls 🙄
    I see only one advantage of the Ulanzi in this: The boll head have 2 notches instead of one for vertical or "dutch" angle.
    That's probably the main complain on the MantisPod Pro, having only one notch on one side limits quite a bit for vertical positioning.
    In the other hand, I don't think the Ulanzi could handle vertical shooting anyway, not with a full frame camera at least, simply because of the leg's spread that is too narrow to have the weight off centered 🤔

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      All of your points are valid on the version 1 - but not the version 2.0 and PGYTECH no longer sell it on the website nor in the amazon store. The version 2 is definitely a downgrade from version one.
      1. The 2.0 ballhead does not independently pan
      2. The cold shoe mount cannot rotate with a screwdriver
      3. The Ulanzi head can gget in any position when hanging
      4. The legs only have one position yes - and advantage of the MatnisPod that was mentioned several times
      5. I didnt say the camera would fall off, I said the plate can move when not locked which is not what you want when vlogging.
      The Ulanzi can do vertical with full frame cameras. I would suggest you try out the two (not the version 1) before you call this review biased. I mentioned that even this 2.0 version might suit some people better. I like the Ulanzi quick release more than anything which is why I now use that one.

      Well, I demonstrated everything in the three tripods. I prefer the TT38 to the mantispod 2.0, personally, but told everyone to make up their own minds. You had issues with a comparison to a tripod that was not even in the video. I don't appreciate the term misleading which implies deception. Have you considered that you are watching a review with your own personal biases - seeing as you haven't used all the tripods in the video?
