    Let me take you back to 2009, I was 18 years old and looking for my second car when an 07 ST150 came up. I jumped at it, insurance quoted something insane so I put my details in a comparison website and promptly insured it as if I was 10 years older (can’t do that these days with electronic licence checks!) the car was driven flat out absolutely everywhere and never once let me down. I crashed it twice, first time needed to rebuild front suspension corner, second time was a write off into a fence. Insurance asked for a copy of my licence I said I’ve moved abroad and left the car at a friends to be picked up. They said ok no problem and went and picked it up and paid out for it😂I can see why they’d use these the NA engines are just bulletproof, they aren’t the worlds best handling cars but they are a lot of fun when set up correctly though. I think it’s quite a good idea to be honest I wouldn’t do it now but I would have done it when I was younger though for sure.

    I think the biggest difference is personal customisation of your own car? Thats taken away with renting…..
    Both options sound very similar in terms of cost (even though not specific in the video)

    I’ve raced, and won multiple times, in Paul’s fiesta. Mega build. Love driving it. 🏁

    I bought one some years ago to celebrate getting through the roughest point in my life so I have an emotional connection to mine, far more than it's worth. It's not expensive, its not fast, its not perfect but it is a head turner now and a tonne of fun. I learned to detail on it, and some basic mechanics that I can now do myself. Still love it. I'd like to have seen under the bonnet or heard a bit more about the mods if it had any, even though more of an OEM+ kinda person still all interesting but perhaps only to me! I need a map to finish it off then mine is pretty much done.

      The car is a standard engine and just an air filter but was an off the cuff thing

    You didn't actually confirm what it costs, it was all very vague. Why?

    • @MotorAddicts
      @MotorAddicts  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      As he said it is similar cost to building a car yourself and go racing for a couple of years. We are waiting on the links to share in description

      Costs vary from circuit to circuit, and series to series, (Distance, Time at Track and Time on Track) so it was difficult to give exact figures in the interview (and my wife might be watching🤫). But, as I said in the interview, a lot of my fellow racers that own and run their own cars look upon me enviously sometimes. And arrive and drive comes into its own when you simply don't have the space, time, facilities, resource or expertise to run a car. EDIT: I'll be providing links and details for Paul Hatfield at Rindt Racing and (as the car was part of the Supatune Motorsport team) Colin Tester at Supatune Motorsport).

      you're going to be looking at around £1500 per event on average. Maybe a bit less at Mallory, and a bit more at Silverstone. And that won't include testing. My racing I can do a full season for about 7k, ( 7 race meetings) 1 test, and maybe a couple of tyres. But that assumes no damage or engine blow ups. If you run out of money, you do not have to complete the season. Some people are happy to do a couple of races a year! It doesn't cost 20k to build a Fiesta yourself, although it might if you pay someone. Realistically you'd be better off buying a second hand race car, or if you must build just stick to the basics, you absolutely do not need to wrap a car to go racing. That would be pointless expense IMHO.
