I had forgotten what a great year 1971 was. Thanks for this feature.
Thanks for the view!
What was the quickest is impossible to answer. None of these cars were tested on the same track on the same day using the same driver. Some of the cars were hand-picked and tuned to perfection while other cars were completely untuned duds driven straight off the transporter. One car may have been tested in october in Michigan while another was tested in California in july. You can't claim one was quicker than the other without all things being equal. What we can all agree on is that they were all cool.
Very well said. And I agree. So much of this depends on time of year, elevation, and the person behind the wheel!
Maybe so, but all those engines from those cars have been dyno tested for decades. So we know what the HP numbers actually are, and not politically manufactured. So put them together in the cars with their known weights, and same gearing and stick shift, or automatics, and I think it will become more acurate W/O all the variables mentioned above.
There are a lot of things that are not considered, the weight of the drivers, the type of tires, the trans gearing, the final drive gear ratio, air temp, altitude, track surface, HP alone does not win races
@@tomcherry7029 I guess you didn't read any of the above comments. Try it.
So true.
The 'Cuda you used was the 1970 not '71.
I noticed that immediately, just like you
Thanks for the catch! Always trying to get better.
2:24 this is a 1972
Not a 1971
Thanks for the heads up
No, thats a 71. 72 has the one piece blinker light
There were a few cars still left in that era of low compression, which I believe some Mopars, and Ford still had compression. And as much of a fan of Pontiacs that I am, it wouldn't surprise me if a Hemi car, or Cobra-jet Ford topped the list. (I guess I should watch the video now)
There were still a few good ones for sure. I think the trans am was the best looking.
@@PistonTrends I'll have-ta agree. But I'm a bit biased. :)
(Unfortunately your CG title image doesn't cut it. What happened there?)
We have limited stock footage but I’ll probably try to find a better image. Thanks for the watch!
The times that they put up for these cars back then were capable of better times in a lot of cases. The drivers most of the times were the editors of the magazines these guys were not the best drivers for quarter mile times in a lot of cases. Plus they had the narrow poly glass tires crap for traction. A good driver and tires those high performance big block cars were easy in the 12s
So true. Thanks for watching
where are the women?
Not here
