      It doesn't take much time or money to make things look good, and really not much skill. Anyone can paint with a brush and roller. I'm not going to win any shows with the trailer but from 10ft away it looks brand new. I completely agree with the Sanford and Sons scenario. Even though it works for me, my customers want to see nice equipment. The good thing is they don't know if it is brand new or 20 years old, just that its is shiny and clean. Thanks for the support!

    Nice job on the trailer. Just finished catching up on the last two videos I missed. Your videos have so much potential if you dedicated yourself to this full time. The automotive segment on youtube is booming and your channel has the potential to reach 100k subs quickly with the right marketing plan . Im sure the return would be worth the time invested

    • @vehcor
      @vehcor  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Honestly, I never thought my channel would be this popular. I do want to reach 100k, that is my goal. It might sound stupid to most people but I really want the cheesy silver play button from TH-cam. lol As far as making this full time... just to give you an idea, my average views have increased 2500% from a year ago. However, my ad revenue has only increased by 400% (keep in mind a 400% increase in 1 cent is only 4 cents). You know, less than the change I find in the cars I repair. lol If everything remains constant, it will take me 3 years to recover what I have invested in TH-cam and that is with zero compensation for my time and no further investment. If I was a bigger channel, a branding deal would help but I will have to wait for that. I am not ready to jump in with both feet just yet. Hell, I have been dragging my feet on buying my own shop for 10 years and that is a much less risky investment. I'm in the process of making some teaching videos and hope that will help boost my channel but I really have to rely on my great viewers that share my videos and get my name out there. I really just do things I enjoy that happen to be profitable sometimes, hence the rebuilding cars. I make these videos for my viewers because it gives me something to do when I don't feel like working on cars. As my channel has grown I have invested more time in it and I will continue to do so. However, that comes with a down side. There is only so much time and if I invest more in videos, the repairs have to get smaller. Giving up my full time job is not an option so the time would have to come from the rebuild time. I hope you are right and my channel gets huge. In the mean time I will do what I can to get it there while still maintaining stability in my life. Thanks for the support! It really means a lot.

    • @vehcor
      @vehcor  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thanks, I just had to replace the broken ones because some genius thought it would be a good idea to transport a forklift. One of those, "I'm not going that far, it will be fine", moments. The rest of the wood was in good shape, probably due to the constant oil treatment applied by all the leaking cars on it. lol I'm going to seal the new trailer, maybe I'll video that for you. :)

    • @vehcor
      @vehcor  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I did a lot of research before buying the new one and it was not worth the bigger trailer. Due to the increase in the weight from the trailer itself, the load capacity was only minimally increased. The diesel trucks are at my trailer's limit but it has been great so far. My old trailer would have died under the first truck. Lol. Good luck on your projects.

    Nice trailer. Thought about mounting those spares under the deck? I made a lift up panel in the middle of mine with a cage to house the spares under it. Keeps them secure and out of the way. Got to keep the sticky fingers away from your trailer or any bits!

    • @vehcor
      @vehcor  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The trailer spares usually stay in my truck along with the second truck spare. I just had them on the trailer so I could show people is included when I put it up for sale. I did think about using a spare tire hoist from a pick up and mounting them underneath. I also thought about putting them in the deck but if the trailer is loaded, how do you get to them? *I need to do this very thing with my trailer too and get a new battery for my winch also. I have to say no matter what I've ever hauled on mine I never have had to replace the ball hitch though. can't even begin to imagine how that got cracked. I've had my trailer just like this only with weaker fenders for 13 years now and I've put everything on it from 12,000 pound custom vans to farm equipment and barbeque equipment. it's even been used as a stage a time or two. I've more than gotten my $1,000.00 out of it so yeah I need to re-invest a little in mine also but the only place I can find to replace everything is Tractor Supply. Mine isn't a dove tail and there is no ramp mounts either. It's just a 7.5' X18' if I sold mine I would either get a diamond plate steel trailer with the dove tail this time or an enclosed one , i'm still kind of tossing around both ideas. I just welded on a new jack on mine just like yours. the 8,000 pound landing gear style one. I was going to put an electric one on it but that's just something else to go wrong or something for someone to want to steal off of it while it's sitting somewhere. if you live in an area prone to rust I would have put some silicone around the hole that you drilled for that plug just to keep it from rusting out. the newere reeese hitches have the cup to put in the blade style connector or the 5 pin either one. not sure which replacement one you got for sure*

    • @vehcor
      @vehcor  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was not as much of what I haul as it was how long I hauled it. This trailer has been overloaded quite a few times but it has over 200,000 miles on it. I ended up selling it for the same price I paid for it, 22 years earlier. Sure, I had to put some money in it along the way but I cannot complain. I was sad to see it go. I really like my new trailer though.

    • @daddytech
      @daddytech 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah, that being the case you scored and then scored again and 22 years wow! not bad at all. specially in the rust belt up there. if you had to put some money in it that's just part of owning the trailer. you want it to take care of you, you have to return the favor occasionally.. my statement was more of an affirmation that mine needs done too than it was me over stating the obvious like some troll :o) I haven't even begun to add up how much the new axels are going to cost but I want to put new Axels, wheels and tires on mine. just replaced all of the boards in mine about 3 yrs ago and my rams need replaced because while they are wide enough and strong enough for everything I've loaded on mine they aren't long enough, my ramps are only 4 foot they need to be more like 6 foot long. but i'll probably do like you did spruce it up and sell it then go buy a diamond plate one. someone local here in Nashville is selling the diamond plate all metal trailers for $2,200.00 so I think I can get $1,400 for mine easily with the new 8000 pound jack and Harbor Freight tongue box aqdd another $800.00 with it and i'll be riding in style, i'll probably let my winch go with it too. it's a 4,500 pound one but I also have a 10,000 pound one ready for the new trailer already. Next big expense for me is going to be a 30X50 shop with 12 foot ceilings so I can put a lift in it and a paint bay too. That's the one thing all you copart and IAA repair guys have had me jealous of all this time. lol

    • @daddytech
      @daddytech 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      LOL that was a hell of a score if you sold it for what you had in it after all that time. wow!

    Nice tune up on your trailer. Seeing the Terrain brings up a question. I recently bought a 2013 Equinox with a rebuilt title. How do you determine if the seat belt pre tensioners need to be replaced? Thanks for your help.

    • @vehcor
      @vehcor  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks, it needed it! The Equinoxes are like the Terrains, the seat belt pre-tensioners are two parts on each side so four parts total. If the air bag light flashes 7-9 times and goes off after start up, the system is functioning normally.
      HOWEVER, if the pre-tensioners have been bypassed with a resistor or even any of the air bags for that matter, the vehicle will not set a code which will turn on the air bag light. Actually checking the plugs to make sure the components are plugged in is the best way. The tensioners are on the seats themselves where the seat belt is screwed on. You can probably peak underneath the plastic cover on the side of the seats to see it. It is the part I am replacing here: th-cam.com/video/oxMkYdpCQ74/w-d-xo.htmlm48s.
      The retractor is behind the lower B-pillar trim and you will have to pull it back to see the plug.
      The same can be repeated for all the air bags (six in total) if you want to be 100% sure.
      The retractors will usually lock the seat belt up, but not always so that is not a sure check. The tensioners are on a cable that gets pulled down and will be shorter when deployed but both go off together and sometimes it can be hard to tell if they are shorter or the seat is in a different position so also not a sure check. If everything is plugged in and the light goes off you should be good to go unless they bypassed the components somewhere else but if they were going to invest that much time, I'm thinking they would just fix it the right way.
      Don't fear a rebuilt if it was done correctly and don't assume a clear title clean history report must be accident and hack-free!
      I hope this was helpful, let me know if you need any further clarification on anything. Thanks for watching!

      Thanks for the feedback. I want to show as much content as possible but still keep the videos at a watchable length and not have to break them up into multiple videos. Except for the Enclave and 55 Chevy which were just really big jobs, I was able to get them all in that 15 minute window. My newer videos have gotten longer in an effort to show more of the process and explain a bit more but I'm thinking you are right about keeping them under 15 minutes. Thanks for watching.

    I like the receiver hitch mounted on the pillar in the center, I have an idea what you used it for but just wanted to ask. Removable winch or just a spot to use to use a cable puller?

    • @vehcor
      @vehcor  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I used to haul trailers so it allowed me to couple the hitch on and just tie down the rear of the trailer. More secure than straps. I did have plans for adding a winch I could remove but never got around to it. I only had the trailer for 21 years. 😂 Thanks for watching!

It was caved in the center of the back bumper and took the gate out along with the sheet metal. It had some minor damage in the front since whatever hit drove it forward. I was repairing it in my garage in Waterford Michigan for about a year (Was working out of state only able to come back every 6 weeks). It sure is a nice vehicle now, 2013 SLE with the six cylinder.
