  • This Enclave slid under a semi trailer and this was the aftermath. Purchased at an auction 4.5 years ago, I was hired to finally get it back on the road. Check out my Instagram for more pics and a video.

      I came across ur channel yesterday while searching for an easier way to replace my fog lights for a 96 Aurora. Dang sir. I've been binge watching. I say u definitely have patience. I myself have a 2002 Crew cab 25HD gasser. So needless to say I watched ur HD swap/repair/build. Several times. I'm still watching. And my left fog light still is not wrkn.

    I started doing body work in ‘85, back then we would fix just about anything. Salvage values were nothing, parts were cheap and there were no air bags, nothing totaled. The cars had less structural parts and you had lots of slop, but repairs like this were not unheard of. I miss those big jobs, maybe I can make a video of old job pictures. I’m jealous of your ambition and energy, nice work.

    • @vehcor
      @vehcor  6 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      You started a little before me. My family has been rebuilding cars since the 40s. I never understood why the buyer bought a car like this to repair but with your spot on summation of rebuilding car in the past, it makes perfect sense. He was old school and stopped doing the work 20 years ago, so in his mind, things work like they did pre 2000. I was thinking of making a video scrapbook also. I should have taken more pics when I was clipping cars all the time. The ambition was not always there. I did have a year that I didn't want to touch a car and actually got out of the industry all together. I came from a shop with HORRIBLE management and I just got burned out. I had a great year but missed cars so I went to work for a great guy that made me realize it was where I was working, not what I was working on that was the problem. Thanks for the support, it is good to hear from peers in the industry that really understand how things work.

    Sir you earned your money on that repair. Those people are lucky that someone of your capability was there to repair a vehicle like that. I have seen a lot less damaged vehicle tossed in the scrap yard. And you were right I have seen two people at an auction with giant egos go head-to-head on a vehicle like this. Thanks for a really great video have a good weekend, you take care.

    • @vehcor
      @vehcor  6 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      To be honest, I would have called it a parts car myself. I'm glad things worked out the way they did, I really enjoyed the job. The bidding wars are getting more common. I truly believe the industry is flooded with uneducated buyers that just don't understand the value of the vehicle or how to determine it. If someone was always subsidizing the repairs I would love to do stuff like this all the time. Thanks for watching have a great month!

    Probably THE most skilled repairman in the automotive industry. I know for a fact there are very few people who would would even consider putting this amount of time and energy into a repair. Especially on an Enclave. Keep up the good work and can't wait for more videos.

    • @vehcor
      @vehcor  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, it comes with years of practice. Fun fact: I personally hate Enclaves. lol They have too many problems mechanically for me to want to sell them to my customers. I just enjoy building cars and can't say "no" to a challenge so I end up saving an Enclave. The new owner is still very happy with it and in 10k miles has had no issues. Maybe they got a good one or maybe the trans, rack and engine will all fail at once. We will find out! Thanks for your support and thanks for watching!

    You are insane!!! And waiting that long for an inspection would make me nuts. Here in Pa we get it ready and there are multiple “enhanced safety inspection” stations we can use. Very easy process. My guy is about a 4 day wait but it’s road worthy that same day.

    • @vehcor
      @vehcor  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have been called that a few times in my day. Inspections here are usually 1-2 months but I have waited as long as 4. The safety test can be done at any time, it is the the SOS inspection that takes forever. I did just have one that was only a 4 day wait. Never, in the 30 years I have been going to these have I ever had one that fast. I was barely able to get it done in time as I usually send the paperwork in anticipating the usual long wait. lol Thanks for watching.

      I do, it is a sort of addiction maybe. lol It turned out great, most people assume that cars a totaled when hit in the cowl because they are unsafe. It is really only because of the labor involved to get to the parts to repair them. Thanks for the support!

    Iriony. I do the same thing you did here for a living and I watched the video all the way through. It takes a ton of patience and even more knowledge to do a repair like that. Very well done. I like your rack and pulling post, looks like fun really. We're still using floor pots and a floor mount frame anchor system. It's a Blackhawk system and it works quite well, but it's quite time consuming to set up. Not to mention if you don't remove the damn foam you could have a big problem on your hands when welding, having a car clamped to the floor and all.

    • @vehcor
      @vehcor  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, I enjoy the work so quality is my number one priority. I challenge myself with the big repairs and dead lines but that just keeps things interesting, That frame rack is 35 years old! It is a beast, still works great. The shop does have pots on the floor and a couple of the old school rams for the easy one direction pulls. Thanks for watching.

      The guy that had this Enclave is a huge Buick fan. He had a few of those Park Aves. The rockers and pillars love to rust out on all GM cars in the north. They can be fixed and they do make repair panels but the labor to do the job is far more than the car would be worth.

      I really don't like the Enclaves, Acadia, or Traverse. They have too many issues and like you said, they are too big. They are almost as big as a Tahoe/Yukon and those are much more reliable, might as well get one of those. I would have recommended either a Terrain or Equinox. Both are the same size as the Envision and both are reliable. You can't go wrong with a Toyota. They cost a little more upfront but hold resale well and last forever.

    Between this and the video admitting your mistake on that '15 K2500, you have a new subscriber. Watching your videos is a reality check for me, someone who really wants to pick up an insurance auction car to fix. I just can't get over the magnitude of a repair like this, or even seemingly simple bumper damage! Doesn't mean it's any less fun to watch a true master of his craft.

    • @vehcor
      @vehcor  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad to have you here. The Silverado was a warning that even as someone who has done this for years and plans for everything, there are times when you don't really plan for everything. I didn't start out on the big ones, I worked my way up. There are plenty of older cars with very minimal damage out there. Plan for some extras on those too, even if you inspect the car in person. You always find something once you get into it. The older cars are cheap so if you make a mistake, it won't set you back too far. Good luck if you decide to jump into rebuilders and thanks for watching.

      I have always done the heavy hits, the shop I used to work at was one of the original rebuilders in Illinois before they even had salvage titles. I have been rebuilding totals for 23 years and repairing cars for 29. I do work pretty fast and plan everything out to keep the process moving quickly and efficiently. Sometimes the idea in my head was better than reality so you have to adapt. I have gotten pretty good at that too. I wasn't always this efficient, it takes practice. Stick with it and don't be afraid to try new methods until you find what works for you. Thanks for the support!

    Wondered why, for a minute, you left the passenger side doors in place then I remembered helping a friend do body work once on a suburban. After he cut the floor and roof out except for a few cross pieces. The doors there will help hold square more than massive holes will.

    • @vehcor
      @vehcor  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, this one mounted to the frame rack keeps it square. The real reason is because I didn't need to remove them. It would just add time to the project and moving parts around off the vehicle opens up the chance of damage.

    Your work ethic is absolutely unreal. It makes me kind of depressed, because you're *such* a rare type of person, I could never spend what must have been hundreds of work hours on a car that wasn't my own.
    Also, about the VIN, I think the time it takes for someone to come out depends on your local government. When we built a boat trailer a couple years back, a county guy was out within a few days of our request.

    • @vehcor
      @vehcor  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What makes this even more amazing is I actually hate Enclaves. They are junk and plagued with problems. It is about the work for me so I don't have to like the car to want to build it. You are right on with the local government idea. I live in IL so since the state is broke and understaffed, it takes a while. I do have some connections that I may end up using on the Silverado if the wait to retag the cab is too long. Thanks for watching.

    Great video and amazingly excellent job, you make the other youtuber rebuilders look like beginners, those who brag about mustangs, corvettes, and hellcats, and they are not even close to your level. You actually unweld whole pieces instead of cutting small sections.
    It would be nice if on one of your videos you could explain about how many pieces a car or truck is made of and where to look for the spot on welds.
    Your rebuilds are extremely clean and an example to follow.

    Hey Vehcor! It feels like its been forever. Impressive repair, you definitely do quality work. Extremely thorough. Enclaves are beautiful vehicles, very big. 21 days is flying. I'm surprised to hear no money could be made. If that was accomplished when purchased that vehicle would have still been worth 25k plus? Sticker was probably 45k or more. They're expensive vehicles. Either way, enjoyable too watch.

    • @vehcor
      @vehcor  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Seems like forever to you but I barely had enough time to get the video done by the release date. lol I usually don't have deadlines with these jobs other than the ones I make for myself. This one I said would take a month or less (sometimes my mouth gets me in trouble, go figure). I guess the job itself was not enough of a challenge I felt the needed to up the stakes. I'm not a fan of these, the Acadia, Traverse or Outlook, to many problems. They look good but I hate selling cars that I know my customers are going to have to continually put money into. Your figures are very close, you're getting the hang of this quick! The labor involved made it worth more in parts than to repair and the buyer paid FAR more than either. So, at least it made a cool video and kept me out of trouble for 21 days.lol I'll have a bonus video this month so you won't have to wait so long. Talk to you soon!

    You my friend are methodical and one hell of a technician. assume your wife is the cameraman/women and I have to agree with (watajob). If the state wan ts to see what was done, it's right here. They can issue a proper title for the vehicle. And your 100% correct, Insurance companies DON'T want to be in the car repair shop. They just total it and let the owner go by, after he's paid his deductible and let him head off in look for a new car. You are really talented, and I say than because you what to cut and what to reinsert on the repaired wreck, and it fit like a glove. It's a privilege to watch you work.

Would love to see the full rebuild in 2 videos, one disassemble and one reassemble with all the still pics you mentioned included for the folks like myself who dont look at other social media sites, sorry if you need viewers over there. I personally dont see anything wrong with doing this job to save the vehicle and as an Auto Technician, its not all about the money as long as you dont lose it out of your pocket, income is income and it mostly depends on your outlook on life and how well you like to live life with your family, its all good brother.
    I didnt read all 800 comments, if you retag it, does the title show that to the next buyer and is that info listed on the internet for the sites where folks go look that info up prior to purchasing a car? This collision is worth fixing because you did it the right way and you did educate other people on repairing the impossible and this way is the hard way which takes a lot of work,labor, and parts. No one else would do this kind of body repairs and have the patience to do this big job as you did. A true Master Auto Body Technician and for this you get my respect.
