- Note: Liner is navy not black, but it’s black in my heart because that is what I see with my colored blind eyes! Ha ha.
I was able to get my hands on a Schuyler Canterbury in the Black Pearl Calfskin. Is it a winner?
Which leather is softer/more foldable?
Goatskin is generally always going to be more soft and floppy.
Could you do a video showing how the goatskin and calfskin wear and age differently? Thanks.
All goatskins essentially don’t wear at all. Each calfskin is different. Badalassi patinas, scuffs, and scratches. I’m not so sure about this. I sort of scuffed it around and it didn’t effect it. I do think it will get wrinkles and such with use. I’ve never had this type of calf before.
@@anickelsworthbiblereviews Thank you. No wonder goatskins have a premium on them.
For a $2oo dollar Bible should be no errors in it.
Thumb nail is great 👍😁
Absolutely beautiful works of art within themselves. The red thing for me absolutely none issue. Great reviews sir
I watched Tim Wildsmith’s review or unboxing of this one and I commented about pirates, so I when I saw the thumbnail of your video, I had to “come and see”…little scripture quote there.
It may just be me, but I think scratches on blue-over gilt are more noticeable than scratches on red-over gilt.
Maybe. I try not to scratch them. 🤣🤣
Good video, I have the KJV Black Pearl as well, and It is my absolute favorite
Are the going to make one with black letters
Very unlikely.
As far as the Jerusalem cross I don't like my yap trained to fold over the text block that much so for me it would look off center if it came that way. I think they may have had to just make a judgement call on that one. I personally like the Jerusalem cross on the front but it may be better for them to just get rid of it on the full yap editions.
I agree. Getting rid of it is a solid idea.
Canterbury personal size vs Concord... 🤔
I’m a fan of the NASB black pearl PSQ.
what is your go to translation
NKJV.
@@anickelsworthbiblereviews mine is a back and forth of ESV and KJV. Love to NKJV but it's so close to KJV that I find myself ditching it for KJV
Nice review. Do you think the black pearl size is too big for chair reading? I’m a newer Christian and want to buy a premium Bible that’ll last. I just hold it in my lap in my chair. It looks pretty big but is it really heavy?
It’s standard size. It’s fine for any situation.
@@anickelsworthbiblereviews oh ok. I was thinking the personal size PSQ was the standard size for personal bibles. Thanks for the info!
Red letter is distracting. What do you have against the Jerusalem cross?
Nothing, it just bugs me that they are off center on all the full yapps.
Anyone here have any long term experience with a calfskin Bible? How’s the durability? I’m really considering getting this one, but I’ve only owned pigskin and goatskin.
I’ve had a few for a while. Each finish is different. These seem to be fine to me, but they are a little more prone to scuffing.
@@anickelsworthbiblereviews Excellent! I’m fine with scuffs, I just didn’t want my Bible to fall apart on me. Most of my nicer Bibles are half the price of these Canterburys, Longprimers, Turquoise etc…I’m probably just being paranoid. I fell in love with KJV with a Thomas Nelson Sovereign and I wanted to buy my “lifetime” Bible. Thank you for easing my mind 😂
So instead of saying, “Close your Bible,” you could say, “Shut your yapp?”
Ha. Well done
I know you've mentioned the off centered Jerusalem Cross before. .. I have seen what you mean with that before. But on this black pearl I'm not seeing it??
It is because the yapp is not trained at all. It is also not as off on this one.
@@anickelsworthbiblereviews yeah I realize that thing with the yapp not being trained.. I was ogling spine edge to edge of book block. It's certainly not as off as others I've seen. I hope they improve on that..
@@sylviafriessen9124 maybe I should have given them bonus points for being closer this time. Ha ha. I tend to be very strict on my expectations with a bible people pay $245 for. One thing I didn’t mention is that Holy Bible is off center on the spine as well. But, these are minor things.
Navy liner no?
I wrestled with that. I think it’s black. Really hard to tell.
Confirmed it is navy…but I CANNOT tell the difference. 😂 I had to check the website, and they say Navy. As I said when I looked at it I sort of thought maybe it was Navy, but it looks so…BLACK to me. Even after comparing it to a black liner I struggle to tell the difference. The end sheet being Navy is the only reason I even wondered. If it is in fact Navy, it is DARK.
@@anickelsworthbiblereviews It looks extremely dark on video, especially against the Navy end sheet.
yapp or no yap is my problem in choosing ! ive never had a yapp on any book , I am afraid I will not like it . what to do , what to do lol
I prefer a semi yapp on most bibles. A full yapp can look nice on some thinlines, but it’s mostly too much for me.
@@anickelsworthbiblereviews This is my issue as well. I have a couple of Quentels, and love them, but I’ve never actually *held* a full yapp Bible. Wish they had loaners we could try out. 😂
You a main KJV user?
No. NKJV and ESV.
@@anickelsworthbiblereviews mine has been strictly ESV being LCMS but I'm wanting to revisit the KJV again and may just get the Concord with a full yapp
