    As much as I love this video- which i do, really! I think that as Tarek went more into the logistics of what he did, I think it’s good to remember that this is what worked for HIS body. It started getting more complex and layered, and his journey to find those new additions to his routine took a year! So for those of us with body dysmorphia, I think we should take these videos with a grain of salt. I’m super happy he got results, but realistically I think the beginning part is the real star of this video. At least in terms of takeaways and taking the next step towards a loving relationship with our bodies. I’m so glad Tarek made this video and shared his vulnerability on the subject ☀️

      @@TarekAli yes ofc 💗 looking forward to hearing you speak more on the topic. I’m actually really curious to hear your take on certain topics about weight loss with BD and have some questions for you! This is a burner youtube account lol but if you’re open, I’d love to send you some questions on instagram (tbh moreso suggested topics?). As someone with body dysmorphia, these conversations are so needed and now in 2022 I’m so excited you’re creating that kind of content!! (on top of your other videos ofc but specifically when losing weight)

      why do people always bring up the "different bodies" narrative anytime someone talks about changing their body? It comes off very "fire extinguisher", and shifts the focus from wellbeing to creating excuses. This comment is annoying.

    • @nataliefields9009
      @nataliefields9009 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Nikthehermit that wasn’t the intent, it wasn’t to negatively comment on him changing his body. It was actually more of a reminder to viewers who might be watching this video with BD who might get overwhelmed hearing the weight loss tips. More of a mental health comment bc a lot of the time we’re trying to achieve what he’s mentioning in the beginning of the video 🦋

    Hey guys. So..as expected..just 2 days after posting this and I am starting to feel a little icky because I just never want to harm other individuals with body dysmorphia or just bad relationships with their bodies/weight loss/body image, etc. There’s no backlash or anything this is just..on my own conscious. The video I posted was 24 minutes. the raw footage i filmed was 1 hour 30 minutes. I cut out a lot because frankly…I didn’t think people cared to hear about my BD because I always talk about it. I plan to upload another to talk in-depth about the mental side of this process but don’t you ever for a second think that the “before” picture is supposed to be inferior or not good enough. There’s a reason I used a picture of me SMILING. Because my body was beautiful THEN and it's beautiful NOW. I WAS HAPPY. I don't mean this in a rude way, but I do not care how anyone else feels about the before or the after whether good or bad. This was for ME. As I said in the video, after MONTHS of building a healthier relationship with my body, we decided to lose weight together and this is me sharing how I did it. You do NOT need to lose weight to love yourself. Nor to have a good relationship with your body. That’s just what I decided to do! please put your HEALTH and a good relationship with your body FIRST!

    I went back to being vegan shortly before Thanksgiving. So far I have lost 16lbs. I'm not back in the gym yet. I work a lot, mostly in a sitting, stationary position. So imma have to figure it out. All I drink is water, with pink sea salt & ceylon cinnamon mixed in it. My diet consists of fruits, salad, hot tea, raw trail mix. No bread, sodas, sugar, meat, or pasta. This combination seems to be working well.

    i know i'm not alone in this moment: do NOT look at the thumbnail and think even for a moment that you need to look like that to be happy with yourself. i am not nearly as financially stable as Tarek, my body reflects that, and that's okay.
    life is a journey, not a destination. be gentle with yourselves.

    The gym or working out should not be anyone approach to losing weight. The reason is you cannot worked out a bad diet. You lose weight through calorie restriction (eating less calories than what your body naturally burn) working out should only be paired with a healthy diet if the goal is to lose weight. Working out should not be the catalyst to weight loss because you will be in a never ending cycle. Nutrition is key.

  • @carmellabrown3335

    My first inclination out of sheer joy, and pride for how you appear to be feeling about yourself is to tell you you look great in the hard work has paid off! But, as someone who recognizes statement like that can trigger things for people with body dysmorphia, and because it is not my intention to infer, suggest, hint to, that you were somehow not enough prior. I truly just don't have the right words. It's great to see you loving yourself🥰. Sending positive vibes your way!!!!!

  • @preciousgugzikgomo7060
    @preciousgugzikgomo7060 2 ปีที่แล้ว +32

    Tarek you smart cookie!!!! Seeing you literally build a positive relationship with your body has inspired me to do the same in a way that nothing else has. I love working out but I struggle with consistency & my biggest challenge is forcing myself to do something I don’t want to do but also recognising that I need to be better at being disciplined so I appreciate your approach to first just building a healthy relationship with working out and then adding goals to it cos that way even when you don’t feel like going today it doesn’t mean you won’t go back tomorrow. I love that!

  • @drstrangeluv3975
    @drstrangeluv3975 2 ปีที่แล้ว +96

    I'm pretty sure you have a lot of content ideas, bit here's another one, maybe a weird one.
    In order to stay fit or have a good performance (i used to be a swimmer) I've over exercised way too many times and kind of injuring myself or under eating (with obvious consequences just like dizziness, mood shifting or lower immune system). As you said in one part of the video, this could be very usual in people that does not have the best relationship with their bodies or are (and were raised) way too strict.
    So, based on your wellness journey... How did you learn to listen to your body? I think there's this widespread 'no pain no gain' narrative that's not very healthy and puts you in a 'me against my body' mindset. Has this been an issue to you in your journey? I would like to hear more about that.

    I just want you to know that your journey towards loving your body has made such a huge difference in my life. Im at the beginning of my journey, but you’ve moved something within me. As the go to person for everyone I rarely have people or a person who I feel understands my struggles. When you said “My body was in control of my body and I was in control of my life,” something shifted in me. I’ve always obsessed over my weight and how my body looked without ever feeling satisfied. I’ve gotten to know myself well throughout the years, but have never developed a relationship with my body. If anything I’m bossy and mean to it. Your talk and relationship with your body provided me an Ah-ha moment. With limitless love and gratitude I say thank you truly! 🙏🏽💗

    You motivated me to get back on it. I let a busy season of work distract me. I want to loose a good 15-20 lbs. I'll see if I can do it in 3-4 months.
    I know what it takes. As you said at first, its easy to fall off and quit. Consistency and discipline is the toughest part about accomplishing important goals for me. Making it fun and setting those small attainable goals make it easier to do. Plus I love the idea of switching it up from the gym and forming healthy habits elsewhere like out in nature or where ever.
    Overall, it was the "love your body and listen" part for me, Gold!!!! It's so true! I just have to pause, think, and listen. I'ma love on myself more!
    Thanks for the kick in the ass and motivation Tyrek!
    BTW! YOU DID THAT!!!! PERIOOOOD! YOU LOOK "GREAT" 🤣

    I so needed this vid right now!!
    I used to dance from childhood to university/college but during college I stopped. By the end my body just wasn't operating the way it used to which made me realise that dance was actually keeping me fit. Then I started jogging which I enjoyed but it made me skinny and didn't give me the 'slim thick' look I was going for. I've tried gym but similar to you it would only last for short periods since it wasn't as fun as an activity for me. This vid has definitely given me a new mind frame for gym/working out
    AND STOP APOLOGISING FOR TELLING YOUR STORY THE WAY YOU WANTED TO TELL IT!
    Its your story, you should tell it how you want. You never know who it's going to help. I would actually be interested in hearing more about your mindset throughout the process, especially when going through diet changes, body changes and currently.
