If I can add anything to this already wonderful video, it would be this. I showcased Shades as my signature service for over 10 years. This is what I learned on the road to get the best results out of it. 1 Take the time to always apply to dry hair not damp hair. 2 Always process the full 20 mins under heat with a cap and cool down fully before shampooing. Never cut processing time. Processing at room temperature will not yield It's full potential in my estimation and experience. Maybe others would disagree, try it for yourself and find out. 3 Do not shampoo out the color with hot water. Following these tips will seal the gloss making the most gorgeous glossy color that can and will last 2 full months with minimal at home shampooing. I call it the icing on the cake! It allowed me to ensure that I would see my clients every 2 months for a less expensive quick glossy refresh no matter what else we had going on with their hair. Over the months and years I saw client after client experience real recovery to healthy hair that they loved because of this method. It protects the hair greatly.
@@opchick0597 shampoo shades eq out. I'm simply following manufacturer instructions and it does exactly what I need it to do. It is not recommended on damp hair. It is recommended to process with heat for 20 mins.
This is really interesting information. I’m not a hairdresser, but my hairdressers always applied on damp hair after color, for about 10 minutes. No heat. I was going to do an all over toner at home (9V, because my hair pulls super brassy, and after a few weeks of color, I find I’m using purple shampoos and masks all the time to help with that), but am wondering if I should do on dry hair and paint it on, or mix in a bottle and apply all over damp hair for 10-20 minutes and then wash out? It’s so hard to get into my hairdresser bc she’s booked so often….. 😬 Anyway, thanks for the awesome tips you posted!
@@Future-zx9ts I will say if you are able to buy Shades EQ products they are not the real deal. Only licensed people can buy professional products and it is highly regulated by the suppliers. If what you buy comes in Shades EQ packaging it is definitely fake and you are risking doing real harm to your hair. There is no telling what is really in those bottles but it is very common that people falsify and refill them with different things to make a profit. It is illegal in fact to sell genuine products to unlicensed people, just as it is illegal to falsify products and sell them as genuine. I'm assuming you have a professional friend who is buying this stuff for you I hope that is the case I would hate to see something happen to your hair and it be a weird color or something worse. If you do have a friend that can buy it for you why don't you just have her apply it.

@@dtuneit1116 it can be washed out more than once. It won’t hurt your hair. But if you’re asking is it that’s the stated directions, then no. It’s not manufacturer directions; but I could see why someone might want to do it: it came out darker/wrong tone turnout/etc etc. Bc shades EQ does wash out after time, so how often one washes their hair and what kind of shampoo & conditioner they use, will greatly reduce or eliminate the toner if one isn’t making sure to use a color protection shampoo & conditioner and shampoo less x’s a week. How it was applied though, makes a big difference on outcome of endurance for shades eq overall. If on dry/damp hair and the time is was left on barely/20 mins, especially might make the chances of the toner staying for 5 washes/longer time on = longer the toner lives in the hair- the full 30-36 shampoos. Hope this helps.
Haven't even started the video, but decided I would drop this in the comments anyway. I personally think you should always shampoo after shades eq. It lathers because it has sulfates in it to aid in the spreading and emulsifying during wet hair application. If only rinsed off with water the chemical process is still going on the hair. Shades eq doesn't "lather and clean like shampoo" as I've heard a lot of hair stylist say.

hi barber here!! unfortunately we only learn so little on bleaching and toning .. i love how well you did explaining things. im trying to bring color services to my mens hair . white platinum and silver greys are a thing can you help with explaining eq toners to help achieve that look.
I have been dabbling with it & have loved it. However I've stayed pretty loyal to a few toners, but this made me really excited to explore! I think I am going to purchase an intro kit! Thank you so much!!!
My hair always overtones, so adding the clear to my 9,T 9P,,9v formula keeps it from overtoning and allowing me to keep it on the full.the 20 mins. I also use it by itself in-between root touch-ups just to add that shine back in. I only wash once a week, so I do get a good 6 to 8 washes .
Just back into the salon world after a few years out of commercial work in trade. The salon uses this line. Great explanation for it and its usage. Thanks so much ! XO
I would love to try Shades EQ. But I don’t have any place close to me that sells it . I wish cosmo prof carried it . But I love this video very informative !!

I just watched this and was purchasing some product to do my own hair. Im.not a Profesional but I want to do my own so I can freshen up my own every 4 weeks or longer. I have gray in roots. My question is can I use a permanent color on my roots like wella or even a root dark box dye and then use shades eq for the bottom ? If you don't recommend the root box dye what would you recommend ? And do you do it all the same?. I was planning on doing it roots first and then use the shades eq through out the rest and let it sit. Then rinse out ...I know alot of questions. I love this video. Very informative. Also what is a bonder inside. ?
My stylist uses Shades EQ. I've gone to her for years and 90% of my visits I love how it turns out. She spreads herself so thin with clients that occasionally I end up with more orange than I want (namely last visit) or it's just slightly different each time I go. I believe she didn't rinse out the conditioning treatment and toned me on the last visit which I am very unhappy with the results with way to much warmth on the top 8 inches of my head (my hair is to my waist). I'm going to attempt to correct it with shades EQ...... I love her and she is so great, but NEVER writes down the formulation she used on the visits I tell her, "I LOVE THIS". I'm a level 9 with some level 8 as I said mostly 7 to 8" from scalp down. So frustrating.. I like a brighter cooler color with the dimension of some of my darker blond........

I won't get her to colour my hair any more because she is being secretive.

I like your explanation. I just went to a hairdresser last week and the top half of my hair is warm yellow, and the bottom is greyish blond. I hate it and I wonder how to fix at least the top part😢

I just bought a 9p and 9v and I am just now hearing about the clear to dilute it a little so I don't have purple left over. I didn't know until now. Can I get away with just mixing those two colors?

So glad you liked it thanks for watching❤️❤️
If she toned it & it’s alot darker than what I wanted can I use another lighter toner over highlights?
Hi I am not a hair stylist and have a question. I used storm cloud on my hair. It will not wash out and it’s been months. It’s a nice color but I want to try other colors what can I do? Thanks
I just bought a 9p and 9v and I am just now hearing about the clear to dilute it a little so I don't have purple left over. I didn't know until now. Can I get away with just mixing those two colors?
Without the clear, it will darken the blonde. There is too much pigment deposit.
Great job ❤️
This was great, thank you so much!!
In terms of toners, do you generally use 20g or 40g ? Or is there a general rule of how much to use. Obviously will be different depending on thickness of hair ect.
Oh I would say closer to 20!
If a client went from dark, black hair, to a shade of brown that has a little bit too much red in it. What would you use to turn that down?
The gn series is good to neutralize red ❤️
@@LaurenFrancesHair thank u
