- In this video we are talking all about hair color corrections using Redken Shades EQ. We walk through each level, the undertone, and the corrective tone.
It's full of great tips if you're coloring your hair yourself or need a refresher for the salon, so get ready to take some notes! As you all know Shades EQ is my favorite product and the more you know the better your colors will be!
Correcting hair color can be tough. It's a confluence of your clients hair type, color and product history, your knowledge of the product you're using to repair the hair color, and your artistic ability as a hair stylist. But don't be scared! When you can fix a client's hair color gone-wrong and bring out their best look, there is nothing that will make them more happy and loyal to your business.

Blonding and toning is intense. 9P, 9V, 9T, 9N, 9G, 9AA, 9NA, 9GN, 9B, needs a swatch on it's own to see the difference within the blonde tones.

I love that quote! I’ve struggled with balancing money with gratification through making people feel good. And I came to the same conclusion as well that as long as I’m making people happy and making them feel better and making their life better through my work then the money will come because they will continue to come back. Hi girls, I’ve essentially grown up in my mom’s hair salon and although I’ve observed her cutting, coloring, and styling hair all my life, there are just too many critical lessons and processes that must be taught and understood when applying any of those skills. And because it always looked so effortless to watch, and I thought I could do anything I put my mind too, (lol) I convinced myself that I wanted to do my own from now on...lol. Just what I needed. Very informative! I use 8na full strength once, and I definitely got that ashy green look. It’s fun to experiment and share formulas. I love blue for canceling out orange brass. Thank you, ladies!

Question: my natural hair is brunnette but I have been dying it with 6Bv (brunnette violet and 4RV (dark brown red violet). I removed the color and my hair is now light red and gold.
I would like to go silver with dark undertones. Any advise please. Thank you so much.

Thank you for sharing your ratios and formulas. I always ask people to share not bc I want to copy the exact formula, but bc I want a feel for “how much” of something you’re actually adding. It helps me get a feel for the potency of each tone!

Daniella Benita you guys blow others away. seriously. by any chance do you know any colorists in San Francisco or San Mateo California area that are like you? I keep getting same coloring issue anywhere I go. Years ago I had a great colorist and he knew how to deal with my color/issues but he retired . Since then its been take what I can get.

I’ve tried looking for these Redken Shades EQ and no beauty supply sells it around me 😩 they say only stylist supply stores sells it but I can’t seem to find those places either. Any idea where I can find those 05N, O4N, 6GB, 9B & 9NB plus Clear and processing solution? I don’t have a license 😣 but I’m about to beg a supply store.

I am going to be doing a balayage and have bought 9VG to tone. I've also bought the clear. Would you suggest going half 9VG and half clear or should I also be adding in a 9N or something else? I'm planning on lightening to around level 9.

Fantastic video ! Ive been using shades eq and doing a lot of color correction! Just when you think “what else is there to learn.... I stumbled on your video ! Why use double developer?? I rarely use clear because I tone wet hair and for some reason I decided the color would last longer not using clear... can you do another video on
1 why you double the processing solution at high levels
2. How to keep violet and N at 8-9 not looking flat or overly cool
3. How you get those beautiful golden beige tones for those ladies that don’t want to be super blonde

Can the next tutorial be Showing how to mix, apply, time, with all the levels and end result with blow dried. I feel as if I’m just being taught only about bleaching, leaving client to wait in between and then coming in again for bleach and toners.

Uh oh! Im trying to go for a ashy blonde with really bright ends (somewhat platnium tips). I bought 7na/7n for my roots, but got 9na/9v for my ends. Will my ends look green? Should I add a few drops of 7n in the ends formula to cancel out the green or do you think I will be fine?

hey daniella - love your tutorials. need your advice. I'm a 5 brunette with 20% ash gray growth. I want to "usher in the gray" but I want to add a couple of lowlights in a very ashy cool tone so that the salt-n-pepper doesn't look so "salty." I saw on the redken website "SLATE BROWN" that was a perfect color for me, but I don't see where a consumer can get that. now I'm thinking I should just tone with redken "iron" toner. curious to hear your opinion. THANKS
Would you recommend the GN for a red color correction to cancel out all the red and orange??? Like would really and truly cancel out the red ???

I always seem to pull orange and copper and my hair lightens really well but anytime somebody slaps a toner on my hair or any permanent color near my roots that isn't lightener it always pulls orangey red so thank you. You have no idea how hard it's been to find products to get somebody to get me that lived in ombre beachy blonde look with a deep root... So far two stylists can't achieve it and I keep pulling orangey red.. wish you guys lived in Canada because my God

I had my hair done yesterday however I don’t care for my root smudge which is super dark. She did use Redken Shades EQ I immediately washed my hair however it has a reddish dark brown tone now and the rest of my hair is buttery blond. What can I do to make the root color fade fast? I have level 10 hair that always has yellow in it. I just purchased 9v, 9p, 9g, and crystal clear. Will these make my hair white blonde without any gray or silver? Or do I need the the 9t and/or 9n? Thank you

I lifted my roots with 20 vol developer and redken color gel laquers and my roots unfortunately turned orange :-( Can you recommend a way to color correct my roots with shades EQ? Hello I’m removing black from my hair and right now I’m at a point where my hair is burgundy at the top and lighter reddish color at the ends I’m planning on using a color remover I had a copper blonde under the black so I know it will turn pretty orange red. Which colors of Redken eq can I mix to achieve like a dark blonde color and not have red or orange on my hair thank you

Hi ladies!!! Help me please. I’m naturally a strawberry blonde however I’ve been getting highlights for years so I was blonde blonde. Yesterday I got my hair done and asked to match my roots and she made me so dark and so red. She used a level 8 with warmth....I’m going to strip my hair with the Color our system and hopefully try to tone it. I was thinking 9n with a splash of 9rb (for dimension) or should I do Equal parts 9n 9nb and a cap of 9rb?? Your advice is much appreciated

Is it possible to brighten up a level 8? What would you put on a root that's 5n and brassy if it's too dark? Can I do 10 eq? I tried doing 09p and 09v it helped some but it didn't lighten much.
I am between a natural level 6-7. Colored w perm. 7 Ash to cover gray. No matter what i do, it always pulls orange. I have highlights but once the toner the salon wears off it is all brassy again. I put in EQ 9V and 9N more 9V and it helped a little but still brassy. Should I tone again and use the 9B and crystal?
I saw someone use a 9v + 9t + 9p + clear what are your thoughts as far as how much you should use if you want that really white platinum look?

Hi. I have tried different brands of Toners. But I don't know if I'm using the wrong toner but when I use Violeta it gives me a coppery tone. My hair itself has orange highlights because I am Latina. What redken toner should I use to correct the copper color and make my high lights look more beige? thanks.

So I dye my hair the redken 4Rr and I add red booster, but now I’m trying to neutralize the red with a 4Na, and then dyeing it again with the new redken super glow in the deep sea, will this work?
On a level 6 or 7 that has a good amount of warmth. Can you tone with a 9N or 9Na to get some of the warmth to neutralize? With out depositing a level?

Hello, after I bleached my hair, I put on a blond irisee ash color and my hair looks a bit greenish now. It's probably due to the ash. How do I neutralize the green, without becoming too warm (I know red neutralizes green), since I don't like warm tones, but I would really like to get rid of the green/grey tone I have right now. I also don't want to darken the hair. What would you suggest? Thank you.
I did a color the other day. It is Goldwell 7BN and 6KG equal parts 20 volume on roots and 10 volume on ends. It pulled more of a 6 Copper. I was told to do 3/4 8GN and 1/4 Clear Shades EQ with processing solution to help cool down the copper tone. Please advise.
Would you say 6GN would be great to color over baby pink + rose gold hair color? To go brunette while still correcting the pink in the hair.
