    RE: crafting
a friend and I did some calculations last night about crafting sling bullets and its like 10.4 bullets per minute, which is a little more than one per round and actually a little high.
sling bullets were made (by the romans) by melting down lead, poking their finger into the ground, and using the hole as a mold, then letting the lead cool; which means that if we're being honest you don't need any tools to make them just a fire so saying you can make 640 bullets an hour is really reasonable given the number is derived from a general crafting rule not a specific one about sling bullets themselves.

So glad you are talking about this. I feel equipment gets overshadowed by all the new class changes and spells but its just as important.

7:49 The intent behind 5.0 was to put power into the hands of experienced DMs who Wizards trusted could just make stuff up on the fly. 5.5's design philosophy of codifying everything comes from the reliance on Sage Advice and such for every small detail.

and 5.5 put all the power in the hands of players. I imagine even less people will be DMing this edition than the last.

Well, and we're all like 90% sure that the increased codification is also meant to be used for adaptation to an AI DM

Nothing wrong with power for the experienced, but having advice for the new gamer is pretty vital, too.

10:10 I believe the Monk can do it on it's own now that it can make unarmed strikes as bonus actions at will and then use their action for the chains. Oh and that bonus action unarmed strike can now be a grapple.

Thanks for the rundown and overview of this section of the PHB.

I'm actually pretty pleased with everything in the equipment section, but that's probably because my expectations were only that gear and crafting would be coherent.
It met that bar! But I agree that they really went for minimalism here when there was an opportunity do go for something more refined.

Nah! It's OK but it needs homebrew. We homebrew everything we don't understand or like and then add all that homebrew up and write our own rulebook on top of DnD rules for players to read because no one likes consistency and everyone loves reading all the changes a particular DM made. DnD, sort of, baby!
Yes, this is me making fun of you homebrew peeps. 😅😂

Chains actually seem incredibly powerful. Imagine a Monk Barbarian multiclass that grapples as a bonus action then restrains with advantage as an action. The enemy needing two actions to break free.

By far my favourite DnD channel. I wish I was as elegant spewing my nonsense haha

You are WAY too kind. Elegant is hardly what I’d call my blathering and rambling. Lol. I appreciate you!

For crafting, I would let characters make multiple of the same item in the same day if the value is low enough that the number could still be made in a single day, for example; If you want to make a length of rope it takes a day, but if you want to make 10 it also takes a day... I might also combine that with your hour suggestion now that I think about it.

Great suggestion with combining multiple items to make up the timeframe. Thanks!

Heavy weapon penalty is not a bias against a marginalised group, its called leverage. So my human barbarian can wield a oger club then , right. No? Discrimination!

No argument from me. I think the old rule for small size characters was worth keeping, myself.
